  1. In today's Dallas Morning News all eight people (Chuck Carlton, Tim Cowlishaw, Corby Davidson, Kate Hairpoulos, Emily Jones, Bill Nichols, Kevin Sherrington and Brett Vito) picked North Texas to win straight up. Seven of the eight picked us to win against the 6.5 point spread. The only one to pick UNLV against the spread was our own Brett Vito.
  2. No....I was upstairs and heard the doorbell ring one time. By the time I opened the door the Fed Ex guy had already driven off and had left the envelope near the front door. I read this morning that not only is UPS having delays with holiday deliveries because of weather and heavy volumes but so is Fed Ex.
  3. I ordered mine online thru the NT Ticket office the day the bowl announcement came out and the tickets arrived yesterday afternoon by Fed Ex at my home in Carrollton.
  4. The Fed Ex envelope just arrived at my house with my four HOD Bowl tickets! Section 23 Row 27.
  5. My wife and I will be there.
  6. My family is very excited that UNT is playing in a New Year's Day bowl in Dallas. We have a room booked at the Omni for two nights and purchased our tickets. I know the prestige of playing on New Year's Day is not the same as it used to be but it is still a big deal to be playing on that day especially for a bowl starved team like UNT. As for the opponent, sure I would have preferred a BIG 10 team but I am good with UNLV. Win or lose it should be a fun couple of days!
  7. In today's Dallas Morning Newspaper there is a three or four column article written by Brett Vito about UNT being in a bowl with a sideline picture of Coach Mac.
  8. MUTS was 8-4 last year and did not receive a bowl invitation.
  9. Chuck Carlton in the DMN lists North Texas in the HOD with the opponent TBD hinging on if the Big Ten has one or two BCS bowl teams. If there is only one Big Ten BCS bowl team then Michigan might be in the HOD. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/college-photos/20131201-who-plays-in-the-national-championship-where-do-texas-texas-am-baylor-fall-in-the-bowl-picture-chuck-carlton-s-updated-bowl-projections1.ece?ssimg=1324004#ssTop1324038
  10. The constant complaining about DT and Coach Mac in the Chat Room through out the Tulsa game was disappointing especially with such a dominating blow out win.
  11. I totally agree! This has been a great season. Thank you DT for being the leader of our bowl bound team!
  12. My wife and I went to the grand opening of a Total Wine & More store in Plano last night. CBS announcer Jim Nance was there promoting the wine company that he is part owner of. He autographed any bottle of his wine that was purchased. He asked me how I wanted him to sign the bottle and I told him "Go Mean Green." He gave me an odd look so I told him my son used to play for North Texas and reminded Jim that five years ago he spoke to the team at the team hotel in Nashville. He said he did remember when Phil Simms and he talked to the team. He went on to say that their speeches did not help much as North Texas did not fare well the next day against Middle Tennessee. I told him that the Mean Green have improved considerably since then. He then added that in the Cowboy / Raider game he is announcing on Thursday that he knew there will be two North Texas players playing plus a third one who is out for the season with an injury.
  13. The Big Ten does have seven bowl eligible teams. However because both of the ESPN writers have two Big Ten teams getting BCS games then every team moves up a slot shutting out the HOD game.
  14. Chuck has two Big Ten teams to play in BCS games. He picked Ohio State to play in the Rose Bowl and Wisconsin to play in the Orange Bowl. I was hoping Northwestern would beat Michigan on Saturday to get to 5 wins with a probable Illinois win left but they lost in 3 OT's. When Northwestern lost I thought the chances of an Iowa or any Big Ten team vs UNT game were over because there will not be enough bowl eligible teams. However, I might be wrong but I believe that just because a certain bowl is slotted for the #6 or #7 Big Ten team etc that the bowls do not have to go in the exact order. I am sure that the HOD Bowl would really like an Iowa vs UNT match up not only because of UNT proximity but also because of the Hayden Fry factor plus Ferentz and McCarney coached under Hayden at Iowa.
  15. Chuck Carlton from the DMN today still has Iowa vs North Texas in HOD Bowl. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/college-photos/20131117-who-will-baylor-texas-am-texas-play-in-postseason-chuck-carlton-updates-his-bowl-projections.ece?ssimg=1291049#ssTop1303083
  16. I have been a fan of Tim Cowlishaw from watching him on ESPN's Around The Horn plus I regularly read his DMN column. I went to his Drunk On Sports book signing in Plano this summer to have him sign his book for my son. I asked him to write "Go Mean Green." He was laughing while he wrote that out. Right there I knew how he felt about North Texas.
  17. My wife and my connection to North Texas is from our son playing football for the Mean Green from 2007-2011. We have really enjoyed the whole game day experience and expect to be going to games for many years to come. My wife and I graduated from the University of Iowa in the early 1980's. The first we had ever heard about North Texas was in 1978 when Iowa hired Hayden Fry away from the Mean Green. I was in attendance at a Hawkeye basketball game when he was introduced to the crowd for the first time and he confidently proclaimed, "We're gonna win!" Iowa had endured 19 straight losing seasons before Hayden was hired but he was quick to build the foundation of a winning program. My freshman year in 1977 was Dan McCarney's first year as an assistant coach for the Hawkeyes. Hard to imagine but he has mellowed over the years compared to his early days as a coach.
  18. Hope you have a good day! All your time spent working for the greater good of the athletic department and the university is greatly appreciated!
  19. I agree. This excellent 7-3 start should certainly help keep the attendance up no matter the weather. We have been fortunate to have mostly good weather for the five home games except for it being really hot for the Ball State afternoon game. However, that hot weather might have been the deciding factor in Ball State falling apart in the second half.
  20. Women's Golfer Georgina Mundy from England called me.
  21. Yes like DT90 said this is a common practice for most every football program. At the 2010 Army game I tried to keep up with the team buses as they left the hotel. Impossible to keep close as the police did block the intersections plus I was not at liberty to blow thru the red lights like they did. To take it a step further I attended the 2009 UNT game at Alabama and stayed at the team hotel in Birmingham. I left the hotel to drive the 60 miles to Tuscaloosa before the team buses left. There was an accident on the highway and the traffic was stopped to a standstill. Shortly thereafter I saw the Alabama Highway Patrol escort the team buses on the shoulder of the road to get past the stopped traffic and the accident scene.
  22. Keller Fossil Ridge will indeed be playing Arlington High at 7:30 PM Friday 11/15 at Apogee. I received a Mean Green Club email today saying that the Club Level will be open for use for that game. Tickets to be in the Club are $35 each. Must contact Taryn at the MGC by Wednesday to reserve your tickets. 100 reservations must be received in order to open the Club Level.
  23. DMN Staff Writer Chuck Carlton in today's paper predicts North Texas vs Iowa in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/college-photos/20131110-who-will-baylor-texas-am-texas-play-in-the-postseason-chuck-carlton-makes-his-bowl-projections.ece
  24. You are correct as there is not a lot positive about living in Iowa. The winters are long and miserably cold. The summers can be hot and humid. Iowa has been slow to recover from the recession. There is not a lot to do activity wise unless you like to hunt and fish. On the other hand, the people are hard working, honest, friendly and reliable. I prefer living in Texas over Iowa but am proud to say I am a native Iowan!
