  1. Wow. Somebody actually did some homework before speaking about the Sun Belt. Very well done.
  2. 1) A possession TE/WR must develop. Someone to move the chains and keep people off the running game. 2) The QB cannot be a statue. He must be some sort of running threat. Maybe he doesn't score, but he puts pressure on you out of the pocket or when he pulls the ball down. 3) Must develop a pass rush without bringing second level people.
  3. Same for Baxter of Garland Lakeview. OVER-rated.
  4. Good place for him. I've seen him play since he was a freshman. I hope he is a starter and 4 year letter winner for them. I also hope $MU doesn't cancel any of those games. Go Mean Green.
  5. I hope NMSU lands on their feet, but I don't see how. They have been one of our few rivals (one of my best NT football memories is listening on the radio when Jordan Case extended the ball over the goalline to beat them). They want to be in a conference with UTEP just like we do with $MU, and get treated just about the same. I hope for them, but they have few options.
  6. Good for Coach DeLoach. Good guy and he did a good job for us. The only negative for him is that he might have to talk to the idiot that wrote that article. Wow... North Texas State? still?
  7. Wasn't Art Bryles a "high school coach"? Just sayin'....
  8. I was at the opening of Maveric stadium. I was a the last UTA game too. They had a very good team...Then they had no team at all.
  9. The key for us is getting a "name" opponent early in the season AND getting one late as well. Look at the years we played Army, Navy, and Kansas State late in the year. My hope is that the conference will give us a "name" to play at home late in the season. What would our average attendance have been this year if Marshall or Southern Miss had come instead of WK or MTSU? My guess is over 20,000.
  10. Good for him and I hope he does well, but I wouldn't look for him to be back at UNT. His departure did not sit well with the boss.
  11. So, the teams that were good last year will still be good, and the teams that sucked will still suck. Any questions?
  12. I talked to Brooks the day he left the team. His "issues" happen to college players on occasion and could have been worked around, but he had already made up his mind. I think he was planning on enrolling at "Truck Masters" or something like that. And, from what he related of his converstaion with Coach Mac, he would not be welcomed back.
  13. So, Travis, tell me how we are better off.
  14. I'm just wondering if we would really be better off in CUSA. We have seen Tulsa come to Fouts, and they were not a huge draw for our students. I cannot see where our fan base will be any more excited about playing UTEP and Tulane than they are now about playing Middle Tennesse and Troy. The whole point of joining CUSA was to play Houston and SMU every year. So, without them, is CUSA really better?
  15. Nickel back #6 Hilbert Jackson played about 30 plays. He set up the first INT by covering the TE on a vertical route toward the UNT sideline, getting a collision on the TE to destroy the timing, and allowing the top coverage to make the pick. Nice day for Hilbert overall.
  16. Tough call, since I have 3 of my babies up there now (#6 Hilbert Jackson, #98 Daryl Mason, and #99 Terrell Brooks). I'll take #6 Hilbert Jackson since he was my first. I can highly recommend both Mason and Brooks.
  17. I coached the boy and can tell you he is one terrific kid.
  18. I asked some to the NT staff and even they were not sure about those white helmets. I was assured that we WILL have green helmets. I guess those can go on the shelf as odd collector's items, but that is all they are.
  19. Actually, he left us once before. He was here for the a couple of the bowl years, left, came back, and left again late last July. The point being that you could tell (at least I could) when he was here and when he was not. Our line play was better back then. Maybe it was the players he recruited, maybe it was the coaching, but better it was.
  20. Notice how our O-Line blew the Sooners off the ball. Have not seen that since Leftwich left us. I think our new O-Line coach will fix that quickly. It will be nice to see us get physical and actually win the trench war. It may take a little bit, but I really look forward to that.
  21. Back in 1997, we had to dismiss a player from the high school team I coached for MIP. I explained to him that one of two things were happening: 1) He couldn't quit drinking had therefore had a drinking problem that needed to be addressed or 2) He was VERY selfish and put his wants/needs ahead of the team. Either way, he had to go. A violation of team rules severe enough to warrant a dismissal kinda falls along with the logic I used back then. He needs to solve whatever the problem is, but either way, he needs to be gone.
  22. It looks like there is still room available at each entry level. Just wondering, will all of these have to be sold for the game to be considered a "sell out"?
  23. I agree that he left the program better in a lot of ways. And, without more injuries than any program could survive, I think he had a chance at a winning season last year. However, the only place he ever won on a consistent basis was a Southlake. Easy to do with better players and facilities than everyone else. It is probably best for us that he didn't win last year. He is a good guy and I wish him well, but he was never going to take us to the level that McCarney will. I'm glad he landed on his feet and I wish him all the success that Jerry Moore has found.... somewhere else.
  24. I'm going to have a great big belly laugh when this all settles. Either A.) One or more of these schools is going to have to hold their nose and ask to joing the Belt, or B.) they all decide to sink together and The Belt will be a far superior conference in a very short time. Either way.... too funny!
