  1. At least this post got right to the negative. No use waiting on someone else to be gloomy. Right? Just get right to it. If you want a post to become negative, just do it yourself.
  2. Wow, 3 posts again before we have to read something negative about the Mean Green.
  3. It took 10 posts for this one to turn negative. Come on, can't we bash our program faster than that?
  4. And it only took 3 posts for something negative. Congrats '90'
  5. I hope Tech tells the litttle James to "beat it" as well. Honor his scholorship if he wants to stay at Tech, but there is no way he can continue to be a member of that team. If I were the new coach, that is what I would do. Love ya James, but I'll love ya more somewhere else. Good luck and see ya... and take your $MU Jerk dad with you. One Wierdo + One Jerk = Disaster.. if given enough time.
  6. Maybe the comparison didn't make sense to you. My point is that if the kids don't believe in what the coach is telling them, then you have to change. Our kids still believe in Dodge. The ones at $MU did not believe in their coach, and thus the change. But the fact remains that they were close when the kids were young, the kids stayed together, and Jones is reaping the benefit now. I think we will do the same in another year. I am also aware that you could not answer any of the other questions.
  7. "You know as well as I do that even if a fan DOES have a genius idea, no coach would be willing to listen to it. " Like what? What exactly is the "genius" idea? I hear lots of lip on this site, but no specifics. "Maybe the position coaches wouldn't gain any sort of insight about SMU's turnaround, but our HC and AD just might." Again, what kind of insight? And remember, a couple of years ago, $MU was losing a lot of close games. They believe in Jones the same way our kids believe in Dodge. Just give it one more season. I think you will be glad you did.
  8. I don't think I'm the only one tired of signing on and reading this kind of comment. Coach DeLoach was the DC for our bowl teams, Mike Nelson has coached in 8 bowl games, Gahagan 3 Heisman Trophy winners, Ford's teams average 385 yards per game, Leftwich was here for 4 straight bowls (and they didn't exactly suck while he was at Tulsa), Peterson spent 17 years at Air Force, Conley has multiple bowls while at UT...so exactly which coaches should "tune in"? What should they be looking for? Is there a scheme our staff is missing? Maybe a route combination? Maybe a zone blitz of some kind? Perhaps a kickoff formation that is diferent from ours? Be specific. Maybe give one of our coaches a call....I'm sure they would be interested in any insight you can offer. Like I said, I'm just tired of all the negative posts.
  9. So, what would you have done? What was the "smart" move?
  10. I am so tired of reading this kind of stuff. What would you have Dodge do, forfiet. So, according to you, Dodge should tell the rest of his team "I'm sorry, but we will have to forfiet the remainder of the ballgame. Our starting QB and his backup are both out for the rest of the game. Defense, I know you just got a big stop. I know you are still playing hard at the end of a long season. I know you have battled back into a game you were waaay behind in. Sorry guys, but we really should just surrender." Instead, he is forced to burn a redshirt. The kid takes the team down the field, we score, and we are attempting an onside kick with a chance to win. If you had been there, and seen they way those kids fought back...well, since I'm pretty sure you were not there... and since you don't have to consider that on the pee wee team you coach...how about you just give it a break.
  11. Dude, do you ever have anything positive to post? How about we give the negative posts a rest for a while? If we don't win next year, you can be an "I told you so". If we do, you can be happy with the rest of us.
  12. I have coached against Skyline in the playoffs for the last 3 years. Hall is an outstanding QB, but let me tell you, he is no Riley Dodge. In fact, he did not even start at Skyline until this year. For the previous two seasons, he was the backup and came in only when Skyline wanted to throw. He is athletic, but Skyline made almost no attempt to run the ball with him. As you may have noticed, we used Riley in the running game with a lot of success. And to say that Hall led Skyline "from the ashes" is false. They went at least 4 rounds deep in the playoffs in Hall's two years as the backup. Skyline is a magnet school and gets to legally recruit from the entire DISD. They have much more talent and an enrollment that is double that of most of their opponents. They had two sign with Minnesota last year, and one of their WR is a commitment to Kansas State this year. I'm ready for everyone to get off Riley. The only reason we were close this year was because Riley is a stud. Anyone remember Mitch Maher? He went through growing pains too. Let him grow. You will be VERY glad you did. That being said, I would be glad to watch Hall in a green uniform when Riley graduates.
  13. I once thought that when we started winning, the attendance would come. But, we won 4 conference championships in a row, and couldn't put 20,000 in Fouts for any of those seasons. Some talk of getting into a different conference, but who would want a school that can't fill 2/3 of their own stadium in their best years? Some say that we need to get bigger name opponents to come into Denton. But, why would they come when we don't even support our own team? I think our attendance has cost us a bowl game in the 70's (and the main reason Hayden Fry left), and cost us a couple of shots at a National title when we couldn't get a home playoff game in I-AA. How about we get on board and show up (and I have been since 1974, so I have seen a lot of NT football). Maybe, we could do our part and at least get 20,000 for a couple of seasons? I hope the stadium will help, but I have my doubts it will.
  14. What I see is a team right on the verge of something very big. We only graduate 1 guy playing on defense. We have a freshman QB that makes plays. Our offense comes back intact. We get some scholarships back that we lost for academic reasons. There is huge upside for this program. Anyone care to remember what our team looked like right before we won 4 straight titles? It looked a lot like this one. Competetive, but somehow lost games they had a chance to win. The kids still believe, they are still playing hard, and are just not finishing games right now. Be patient one more year. You will be glad you did.
  15. RV has been fantastic for UNT athletics. Anyone who is critical either has a short memory of what this place was like before he came, or just hasn't been around long enough to know. Anyone notice we are building a new stadium? Where is the credit for that? And the 4 bowl games? And the NCAA basketball tournament appearance? So, it is "what have you done lately?, right? And for Dodge, they have been very competitive this year with 18 of 22 starters as underclassmen. He has turned over the roster and had to deal with academic problems that existed before he got here. Maybe we could all try to see past the end of our nose?
  16. Mine is the "One-inch line". Would someone please show me where the "one-inch" line is painted. In baseball it is the ball that hits on the warning track and bounces over the fence. It is a double. It is not a "ground rule double". "Ground rules" are specific to their park. A ball that bounces over the fence is a double EVERYWHERE. But, the "one-inch line" is the worst.
  17. Saban is a skunk of the worst sort. He is a liar and this really couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. The only way this would be better is if he coached at $MU and got them on probation.
  18. I have all the NT mini-helmets from 1996-2009 and one from 1983, but I would love to have a couple more. I need the 1994 and everything before 1983. Anyone know where or how to get them?
  19. Just in case you missed it, Hilbert Jackson won Gold in Austin on Saturday. He is part of the 5A State Champion 4x100 relay. He also a two-time team State Champion. Rowlett has won back-to-back 5A titles with Hilbert as a member. Graduate on Friday night...win 2 golds on Saturday. Not a bad weekend.
  20. Don't know if anyone saw, but Hilbert Jackson won another gold at the state track meet. Hilbert was part of the 4x100 that took first and also part of the Rowlett team that won a second state championship. Of the Rowlett team in Austin, only Hilbert is a 1-A football recruit. Marquise Goodwin is going to Texas on a track scholarship. Kyle Clemons is going to Kansas to run track. Carl Perrymon will be playing Division II football in Oklahoma.
  21. Just FYI... Hilbert was part of the 5A state champion track team in 2008. Hilbert has run on the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. He is an exceptional athlete and a fantastic kid. He also shut down Texas' Dan Buckner (from Allen) as a junior in 2007 when Rowlett beat Allen 37-32. Hilbert can play.
  22. I coached this kid at Rowlett. I can tell you from coaching him the last 3 years that he can play. He has high character and will never be an academic issue. He is excited about North Texas and really looking forward to being part of the Mean Green. I don't think he really ever considered anyone else after NT showed interest. He shut down Dan Bucker (currently at Texas) in 2007 when we beat Allen. Buckner didn't find the endzone until we were up 30-0. He is a "shut down" corner in the making and could convert to safety without any problem. Knowing his character, once he gave his word, he would never consider "bailing". Be glad we got him.
  23. Coach, I agree with everything you said. I just think some make it very personal and many don't know where the line is anymore, so I understand a coach being overly sensitive. For example, I had a parent / fan cut all four tires on my truck after a game last year after I took her son out of a game. I have also been attacked after a game and I have had parents throw things at me during a game... and these events occured at different schools. RF was wrong. No doubt. I just wanted us remember that it is a game.
  24. So, "Coach", how do we handle fans who take it too far? Where is the line? In my opinion, when you buy a ticket, you have not purchased the right to abuse anyone. So, where is the line and what can we do? What can you say to a coach during a game?
  25. I have tried to talk to RF on many occasions and he is a real hard guy to like. That being said, buying a ticket does not give you the right to be an a**hole to our coaches. What give that guy the right to say anything to our coaches? Does he know the blocking schemes? Does he know what kind of defense U-La-La was in? Has he ever coached at any professional level? Has he worked out with our kids at all? How would each of you like it if someone came to your job and yelled at you? We should support our coaches during the season and especially when things are not going well. Comments such as those made during the game will not help and are better left for the offseason. RF was waaaaaay out of line, but the fans really should leave the coaches alone during the game. And, when will we get a real stadium so that our coaches don't have to go through the crowd.
