  1. I was talking to one of the current players and he said a lot of team members want the current "eagle" on the helmet. I told him that I'm not in favor of that. What finally convinced me was a picture in the DMN a few years ago along with an article about a former longhorn QB. The picture showed a NT player from the "flying worm" era. Few people know that is us. I understand where you are coming from, but I'm tired of rebranding. Our last 3 helmets have "NORTH TEXAS" on them. I say stick with it.... and pick a green.
  2. Keep in mind when you are looking at the seat selection that there are about 600 Mean Green members in the Club level and even more in the Suite level. Include all those members, and the lower bowl would appear much more full. Just a thought.
  3. We picked our seats today. Without a doubt, this was the most "first class" thing I've ever seen at North Texas. Everything was done right.
  4. And it is especially great since JT didn't play WR at NTSU. He was a DB.
  5. That game vs. Texas is the reason I don't care if we ever play them again. They are NOT going to let us win... even if they have to cheat. And they will not care if the entire country knows they cheated.
  6. I got the wrong one too. For some reason, I really wasn't surprised. It is just the sort of thing they continue to do. It will be interesting to see who falls on their sword for this one.
  7. I don't care if we EVER play the Longhorns again. After we had them beat, and the officials would not let it happen, I lost all desire to play Texas. They can schedule Ohio State every week for all I care. I agree that we should go to Kansas St. They didn't look down their noses at us and came to Denton. The word I keep hearing is that we don't play @LSU and such for the money, but for recruiting. Kids want to hear that we are playing Alabama and Iowa, and not so much Louisiana Monroe.
  8. It is my understanding that they will only be on the Club level.
  9. When I talked to Mandy McKinley, she was very clear that the "Deck" was going away. It may not have been announced with any kind of fanfare, but I don't think it was ever intended to be a secret either.
  10. I think we have also hired another secondary coach for the corners. I think his name is Gaines and he is from Montana State.
  11. Does anyone know if we have hired or named anyone as the recruiting coordinator?
  12. From what I understand, Fouts will remain a while longer. It will remain as a track facility until a new one can be built across the highway (probably near the new tennis courts). However, I don't think a track facility is in the budget in the near future. I'm also not sure, but I would suspect that the Green/White game will be in Fouts again this year. So, you may not have seen the last football at Fouts, just the last opponent.
  13. Mine came in today. HIGHLY recommend it. Thanks for the post
  14. Upon further review, I agree. I removed my post. Sorry NT fans.
  15. It has been a while since I went to Monroe, but last I knew, theirs was terrible.
  16. We went to Jonesboro last year and saw us play Arkansas State. I think new stadium will be similar to theirs. We sat in the second level of the home side and could see much better than Section E at Fouts. Theirs didn't have anything under the rakers as ours will. All conscessions were stand alone structures such as we have at Fouts (although much newer)and made a plaza area behind the stands. The teams entered the stadium similar to the way we will enter ours and it was pretty cool. In the second half, we went to the visitors side and walked right down behind the NT players. Very intimate. If you are going to sit there, don't bring small children. I think ours will be similar in the respect that the visitors will not be able to get NT fans out of their sideline conversations. It should be great.
  17. To me, the biggest difference is the type of offense each coach ran. We have always had trouble recruiting quality skill kids, especially quarterbacks. The offense Coach Dickey ran was 2 tight ends (sometimes 3), and 2 backs. The QB didn't have to do much, just don't lose the game. We usually had one good WR and would get lots of single coverage and would take an occasional shot downfield. Third and long was a draw and a punt. I know everyone remembers "Throw the ball, Dickey" from the stands. But, we were not 117th in the nation in turnovers. Coach Dodge has completely turned over the roster. He has gone the way of the one back/spread despite our traditional lack of ability to recruit those kinds of players. I think we finally have a QB to run the offense, although he is just a sophomore. But, when you run a spread offense, you are going to expose your defense to more opportunities from our opponents. I'll bet our defense is on the field for at least 25-30 plays more every game under Dodge than they were under Dickey. But, hey, at least we throw the ball on third down...right? Coach Dickey was boring, but he won. Coach Dodge is more mainstreem, but can he win at NT doing so. He finally has his recruits in place (he was at a severe disadvantage the first year), so we should see a big step in the right direction. My hope is that he can get it done. I have become a fan of his over the last few years. I have no doubt that he took the job thinking that he could win and move on. Thas is fine with me, because the first part in that is WIN.
  18. Two for us in the green section. I'll just drive my truck 5 more years. I never thought I would see a new stadium. No way we were going to pass this up. By the way, I'm VERY fortunate, my wife was all for it!
  19. I agree with you KRAM1. Anything outside of Denton is a road game.
  20. If OU wants to play us at the new stadium, then I'm all for it. Everyone wonders why the city of Denton doesn't get behind UNT. Perhaps it is because every time we have a "big" home game, we run to Dallas. When I drove through Denton last week, I saw NT banners near the downtown square. It was very refreshing and I think it is due to a dedication to play home games in Denton. For me, it is the new Fouts, or forget it.
  21. No. Not interested in Utah St, SW Tex, or UTSA.
  22. Nice write-up. It will be nice to play Clemson, but the REAL season starts the next week. The JUCO corner (McCord) looks like he will be a real player. I was impressed by him in the Spring game. My biggest concern about our defense is athleticism by our linebackers in the open field. I just didn't see them make enough plays and pursuit will have to be major emphasis for our defense. If we leave them one on one, our defense will continue to give up points. The place I think you will see the biggest improvement is in our coverage teams. I look for our kickoff and punt coverage teams to be much improved. The heavy recruiting of JUCO defensive kids and the number of redshirts on defense from a year ago should really help our special teams. Like the article says, I think our O-line will be one of the best in the conference. Coach Leftwich did an outstanding job when he was here before, and has revamped a line that was getting pushed around when he came back. Last year, I started to see the LOS going in the correct direction. Also, the inclusion of a TE (something Dodge has added to the offense since his Carroll days) really helped. How long till Rice comes to town???
