  1. One more thing about a Spring Game... both coordinators have agreed beforehand not to hurt the other. The defense will not run anything other than base fronts and very limited stunts. If the offense has something that they can run against our base defense and hurt our defense on a pretty consistent basis, the offense will NOT run that play. Neither side will make ANY attempt at an adjustment. Why show that to the other teams scouts what hurts you or what you could/would do about it? Don't get too worked up over anything you see or didn't see today. And if the #2's win, so what?
  2. I coached a lot of Spring games. Goal #1 is to stay healthy. Goal #2 is to be vanilla. If you were expecting to see the new stuff today, you were only kidding yourself. All of that will come in Dallas in September. The Spring game has zero value to the coaches. It is only there for the parents and the alumni. Enjoy it for what it is. Go Mean Green!
  3. And, I can count 17 of our players that have been drafted since 1971.
  4. Also, I believe Cedric Hardeman was a 1st round pick of the 49ers and Leonard Dunlap was a 1st round pick of the Colts in 1971.
  5. Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't Joe Greene a 1st round NFL pick?
  6. What I would like is for sites like the DMN to start listing the series with SMU as 2-25-1 when the Ponies were cheating and 3-3 since the Death Penalty. Even playing field, even results... for now.
  7. You can try to treat the cancer, but if it doesn't respond to treatment, you have to cut it out. If you don't, it will kill the body. From what I understand, he is a good kid off the court and especially in the classroom. All of that is terrific, but he appears to be the only one that has not bought in to the program. Whether you agree or not as a player, you have to do what your coaches want. You simply cannot have one guy running his own offense or defense. And if you can't take being removed from the game, you are not mature enough for this level of play. I hope he learns his lesson this time... but I doubt it.
  8. I was sitting right behind the UNT bench during the game. Harris was insubordinate and disrespectful. When Benford took him out of the game, he ran his mouth at Benford and the assistant coaches. He slapped away the hands of his teammates and initially refused to leave the bench during a timeout. He is clearly a cancer and my hope is that Benford will send him back to Milwaukee. Everyone else seems to have bought in and the team is playing together. Harris needs to go.
  9. My last year at coaching, Texas Tech did the same thing to one our kids. Our RB committed before his senior year. After the year, Tech fired their coach and hired Kingsbury. The kid contacted Tech and asked if he still had a scholarship or if he needed to look around. Kingsbury assured him that he still had a scholarship and he had no need to look anywhere else. One week before signing day, an assistant coach called him to say that Tech was pulling their offer. NT had recruited him in the beginning, but already had a full allotment ready for signing day and wasn't willing to do the same thing that Kingsbury had just done. He ended up at UTSA. I would only root for Texas Tech if they were to play $MU.
  10. Until Wilson stops putting the ball on the deck...He has all kinds of talent, but Mac won't play him if he cannot trust him not to fumble.
  11. I really think we will end up with a good class this year. I see us filling in with JUCO kids where we missed out on Mac's first couple of classes. Don't be surprised if one more really good one shows up in the next few days.
  12. For once UNT90, I completely agree with you. The cheating will be full scale and out of control... and that's the way the P5 wants it.
  13. On the positive side, Rally House is carrying our stuff and seems to be selling plenty of it. I also see our gear on their ads during the Stars games. That is the kind of exposure we have been begging for. We aren't where we want to be (yet), but thank God we aren't where we used to be.
  14. Two things we can always count on: 1) FFR will complain about the coaching 2) 90 will complain about the schedule Try to be happy guys. We aren't where we want to be (yet), but thank God we aren't where we used to be.
  15. Thank you LSU. It was a clean sweep. They got every on of us.
  16. I would be interested to compare last year's team with McCarney's first 5 win team. As I watched last year, the teams seemed to compare to me in many ways. Hopefully, the next 8/9 win season is just around the corner.
  17. I'm pretty sure MeanGreen15 won't miss a single game.
  18. Updated Standings I know ESPN keeps standings by games correct. If you do it by games missed, the standings would be as follows: 780 MeanGreen15 737 UNT86 734 The Claw 722 Coffee and TV 720 GMG2013 709 MeanGreenFury 705 Eagle83 701 SIG381 700 GreenTexan13 692 MeanGreenMan 691 That Guy Arlo 691 CR1028 690 Jesse 647 NT93 634 MeanGreen93-98 553 MeanestGreen
  19. The thing I remember about Coach Everest is that he had a way of identifying a champion. Clearly he found many. And you always felt like he was "Mean Green" to the core.
  20. Ole Miss signed at least 4 JUCO players, and they had a pretty good year. If one of the best in the SEC can do it, why not us? Why not North Texas?
  21. I think it is probably a by-product of weaker classes his first two years. It had to be hard to recruit coming off the Dodge teams and even after 5 wins his first season. I think last year's class was solid, but I see lots of schools filling in the gaps where they missed with JUCO kids. JUCO kids don't bother me, as long as they can actually play.
  22. I'm not totally sure we were still committed to him. 2 Star changing his commitment late.... smells fishy.
  23. Great Win! GO MEAN GREEN! Until now, I would have said we have not beaten anybody very good. You could tell we were playing better, but this one was big. Now the guys know the level they can and have to play. Now get a win streak going. I don't care what sport it is, just win!
  24. 4-8 tells me that his first recruiting class wasn't that great... and coming off the disaster that Dodge left, that should be expected. I saw lots of Fr. and Soph's on the field. That tells me that each recruiting class has gotten better since his first.
