  1. I'm certainly on board with this KRAM. I just don't think this was the sentiment of the topic. The gist, at least what I got out of it, was to talk up and give kudos for all of the good things going on at UNT (which there are some great things going on here!), while ignoring accountability for the bad things going on at UNT (and there are some bad things going on here). If all Mean Green fans simply wave the pom-poms and buy season tickets, then coach Dodge would probably still be here, and still losing, because there would be no pressure on RV to make any changes. For instance, I'm sure the guys our football staff are recruiting are great character guys, and there may even be some diamonds in the rough, but overall, if you take a step back, recruiting is not going well. I believe GMG.com is the correct forum to vent that frustration... not AD folks' offices. I don't even think we need to mention basketball... Conversely, there are great things happening at UNT athletics. We're moving to a new, better conference! Our soccer ladies won conference! We had several FB players named to the all conference teams! Our game at the super pit on Dec. 20th will have 40+ NBA scouts in attendance! GMG.com is also the correct forum to laud these great things.
  2. For me, that game fell squarely on the skillet hands of Mike Outlaw.
  3. I'm definitely a fan of Chico as an OC. Looking back at his time at USF... I don't think there's any argument that his offense was effective. But as for the Arizona stint, let's take a look: 2004: He wound up having to start 2 different QB's in 2004... hey, at least they pulled the trigger on a change when their first QB did not produce. Neither are guys that are worth mentioning. 2005: Forced to burn Willie Tuitama's redshirt late in the season because of poor QB play. Scored in bunches with him in there. Of course, Tuitama was a true freshman, so there were struggles as well. 2006: With Tuitama again (now a Soph) they got to 6-6. This was not good enough for AZ, so he was let go and went back to USF. AZ regresses to 5-7 in 2007. Chico needs good QB play to be effective. I hope he gets a crack with Berglund, assuming Berglund's the real deal.
  4. Didn't she have problems with coaches Stephens & Aston as well?
  5. I don't know about you, but I'm going to schedule my 15 minute gripe session with RV for Friday at 2:00pm... it was the first time he could fit me in because of all of the other MGC members who are also scheduling gripe sessions with him "in private". Honest questions for those of you who don't like the "public negativity"... Are you satisfied with how the football team did this season? Are you satisfied with what the basketball team is doing so far this season? If you're satisfied, you must have extremely low expectations for the Mean Green. This should be unacceptable and you are part of the problem. If you're not satisfied, and you have an ear with Rick V, then fantastic!! Guess what? He probably doesnt need you or any of us to vent directly to him unless you're going to write checks to instantly fix the issues. I am a Rick V fan. I have faith that Rick understands exactly what is going on. I don't believe he's sitting idly by, but he doesn't have the finances of a UT/A&M to rectify the issues. The last thing he needs is tons of people talking to him "in private" just to vent frustrations and propose fixes without financial backing. What good does that do? Harry has created a fan message board for fans to vent frustrations as well as herald successes! THANK YOU HARRY!! We've had some successes this year. We've also had some failures. The fan base reacts to both equally. We're FANS!! And the great thing is... Rick V and staff, don't have to read this board if they don't want to and would be free to work on the things they need to address.
  6. Mention the Troy game 1 more time!!! I DARE YOU!! Anyone that mentions offensive woes and the TROY game in the same breath, is a stone-cold football dummy. Or, simply did not watch the game and has no clue of how it went down. I am sorry I was unclear. When the offense sucks, you look at what the problem was... Poor QB play. So PUT IN A NEW QB.
  7. So WKU is still in the SBC right? If so, good for them!
  8. I agree. And I dont think anyone is saying that he IS entitled to anything because of his star status because we have all seen plenty of busts with stars. However, I think the excitement around him is because of the play we had this year at QB, and the glaring need for improvement at that position. If he lives up to his star status, then we have that improvement. He just has to go out and work for it... and I bet he will.
  9. If Berglund doesn't come in here with a feeling/belief that the job is his, then he's not worth the recruitment. I highly doubt he feels like all he has to do is "show up". If he's not working hard, that will certainly show up in his performance during spring practice.
  10. Don't talk to me about Russell stuff unless yours were also too small and the color almost completely faded after washed for the first time...
  11. Oh, BARF!! If you love him so much, why don't you marry him? Already sick of this dude and the Aggie fans that come with him. Gimme Klein. *The guy that single-handedly beat UNT to get his team to a Big12 championship. *I know he didn't single-handedly beat UNT, but I want to try and romanticize him as much as possible, just like his competition from A&M.
  12. I'd say the pipeline is already in place, we just need the recurits to continue to flow... Orr/Jimmerson/Terrell...
  13. South Dakota. A school that he already had ties to since they were recruiting him out of HS. And another reason was probably due to the fact that he was let go EXTREMELY LATE in the year, where only a few schools even had openings for him. Luckily, a school that he was already familiar with had a spot open for him! I'll bet all of the other SBC schools would have been interested, but he would not have been released to them. And if you're trying to insinuate that his level of play was so poor that only USD would take a flyer on him... then maybe we should ask these same questions about Roger Franklin. He probably wasn't going to contribute at OSU after his lackluster Freshman campaign, and transfered to little ol' UNT so he could get some PT. Right? I mean, if you didn't know about his dad, that's what it looks like. Whatever... the point in all of this is that you are drawing conclusions based on what you know, which you have to admit, is very little. Travis is trying to say that he knows much more about the situation and that you are incorrect in your conclusions. Can you agree with that?
  14. Lol. This is ridiculous. Travis is basically trying to tell you he's heard directly from the horse's mouth, and I would be willing to bet, several of the horse's former stablemates. And while we're talking about horses... not to beat this already rotted corpse of a dead horse again, but Trey Norris was a freshman last year with room to get better. Holmen is a very nice player for us now, but do you remember his contributions in 2009 when he was a freshman?
  15. I'll go even further and say that Linebacker has probably been tied with Running Back as our best position for over a decade.
  16. If Tulsa and UTEP bail to the MWC, that kinda sweetens the deal...but maybe not enough to pull the trigger on a move out of C-USA. If MWC decides to expand East, we need to hope we're a target. If any/all of UTSA, LATech, or Rice also left to the MWC with those 2, I would say that UNT needs to get in MWC ASAP.
  17. You know, there's a pretty decent WR's coach at a high school nearby who actually knows some of our guys due to a previous stint at good ol' UNT.
  18. Very promising effort from the guys, and it was like watching a hockey game with both coaches subbing heavy at each stop in play. Watching SLU in the first half was like watching a mirror image of our team sans Tony Mitchell: Shots not falling, lapses on defense, lots of perimeter passing. SLU played lots of man-defense. I think that worked in our favor as our guys are simply more skilled than theirs. Part of Tony's foul problems are that he's so big and good. I didn't see the UL-La game, so I don't know what those fouls were like, but 3 of his fouls last night were horrible calls on a guy that is simply bigger and more powerful than his opposition (or flat-out flopping by that Evans kid - 2X). He also had a goaltend called on him when I think he unbelievably got to the ball while still on its way up. Of course, if I were a ref and was not used to seeing a guy with Tony's ability & skill set against inferior opponents, I'd probably call those same goaltend/fouls. I saw the player I believe CJ is last night. I think high pick & rolls/pops with him and Tony (or even Holmen/Niko) would be simply devastating if we had other reliable outside shooters. Benford employed a little of that last night. More play like last night and this thing could get turned back around.
  19. Is this a prediction thread now? I'll play. SLU - 68 UNT - 54
  20. Matt, I think you were confused on this post. Mods, please move this to the basketball forum.
  21. It's OK to have an opinion Kram! To answer your 2nd question posted to me: Yes. I believe he's still a lottery pick. As I stated before, I don't think Mitchell's draft stock is sliding, simply because of his showings in the Amare and LeBron camps this summer. NBA personnel were there and they know what to expect from him when he is handled by other competent NBA people.
  22. Are you kidding?!? Yes, he's the QB's coach, but he cannot get out there and throw the ball for him. Thompson is a sub-par SBC QB. I wonder what Canales could do with a guy like Broadway. We have a fantastic O-Line. Canales doesn't get any credit for that? We have 3 RB's who, through smoke & mirrors, were able to alleviate the loss of one of, if not the best, RB's in school history. Canales doesn't get any credit for that? We have a sub-par QB. Of course, Canales gets the blame for this! We have sub-par receivers (sans Chancellor). Is Canales also to blame for this?
  23. I'm sick and tired of the "How many years since he played? Has he EVER taken a D-1 snap?" argument on this guy... If he's a player, he can play. Brandon Weeden probably had to answer these same questions huh? Seems to have worked pretty well for OSU. And what's great about Berglund, unlike Weeden, is that he's been practicing football the entire time! I'm excited to see what Berglund can do. I hope he comes in and blows the coaches away. I guess we'll have to wait until the spring (at the earliest) to find out. We know what we have in DT. Hopefully he and the rest of his teammates improve over the offseason.
