  1. Watching this (mainly the body language of all 3, since all 3 spit coach-speak), I'm sensing alot of cover-up... Things they want to say, but they know they shouldn't to the media. I'll agree with some of you, to a degree, in regards to Mitchell. He's definitely not doing himself any favors by sulking like that in front of the media. I know he's got the fortitude, it's just, does he want to portray confidence? Right now, he's definitely letting his emotions dominate his sleeve.
  2. If I'm the Secret Santa, I'm super-pissed that I bought all of these tickets and McCollum didn't play... and we still got beat like rented mules.
  3. I just don't think Tony(Mitchell) is that dumb. But, yes, you're correct.
  4. So I suppose the answer is to write off this season as a disaster and wait for Benford's guys to get here so he can put them in his system? Then, we'll see this thing take off?? If anyone could GUARANTEE me that this would happen, I'd say sayonara to anyone Benford sees as insubordinate, and get his guys in here. ASAP. Unfortunately, I just don't see this happening. At all. Yet I'm worried we still see the insubordinate (re: the frustrated, talented guys) leave anyway.
  5. Time for a 'players only' meeting? Rog could make that happen. But I wonder what would get accomplished?
  6. If Berglund is as-promised, we may be able to eek out 6-7 wins. If Thompson is the starter and has not improved (because Berglund is a flop), we will win 3 games. If Thompson is the starter because he improved over the offseason, we will win 4-5 games. Lots of variables.
  7. This is a much better idea than arming teachers in classrooms. However, look for taxes to increase as we'll have to pay for these officers. Still on board?
  8. Looking forward to your boy contributing next year sir, but you're directing this exhortation at the wrong group of people. Look at it this way: Everyone on GMG.com is on the 'wagon'. We've just been here long enough to remember the smooth, expeditious rides this wagon used to provide us. Now that the wheels are out of alignment, and have been for the past 8 years, we're developing hemorrhoids and we're all cranky, but, by golly, it's OUR wagon and we will ride 'til we die. Let's not even consider the other wagon we ride during basketball season. Our thoroughbred horse pulling that wagon was purchased away by a bigger wagon owner, and we had to replace him with a 3-legged horse with a concussion and explosive diarrhea. Every few nights, we get sprayed. I'm sure you understand.
  9. RIP Mean Green Basketball excitement.
  10. I agree with all of this (with the exception of maybe if Warner comes back strong, he can bump Whitfield to nickel where he can utilize his speed to cover the slot receiver). Harry - I'd have a very hard time sitting Sarge if he's healthy for a RS Freshman in Roberts. I wouldn't move Orr from the middle either. He's the rock of this defense. I also don't see any way Trice is not starting at S next year.
  11. I wonder if he is referencing Chico's time at USF, as the time he was recruited by Chico?
  12. I think Keenum got a redshirt, then was granted a Medical Hardship Waiver one year. So instead of 5 years to play 4, he got 6 years to play 4. I dunno if he enrolled in graduate school at that time.
  13. This is a "Secret Santa". This anonymous person probably purchased the entirety of tonight's tickets. Of course it's sold out. You're right though, we'll see how many actually show...
  14. I definitely see a team leader on the floor for every game. His name: Roger Franklin. As for the outside shooters, we have Overlander, Holmen, Niko, Mitchell, and Jordan can hit the 3 (when he has a good look). Now, why aren't the shots falling? I dunno. I think a big problem with the team in watching the play on the floor is that our guys cannot penetrate the lane when in a half-court game. In transition: it's Jones all day, and if Jordan is out in front of him, it's going to be explosive. If Mitchell is anywhere in the picture, it's going to be explosive. But our transition offense is almost non-existent this year except against the vastly inferior teams. The million-dollar question: Why can't they penetrate and make plays in the paint in a half-court set? Are they being coached how to do this in Benford's system and not executing? Are they not being coached how to do this effectively in Benford's system? I'm no basketball coach, but it seems like if we have a PG as effective as Jones, and a big as incredible as Mitchell, we can employ high pick-&-rolls/pops to be very potent... right? I don't see a whole lot of that.
  15. I like this pickup. I think CBL boiled it down nicely. We're getting a guy who at least can contribute on ST, if not elsewhere on the field (player), has graduated before his eligibility is up (smart), and has played 3 years on a good Big East team (experience).
  16. Guys. I'm afraid you're not giving McCollum enough credit. Hopefully Alzee sticks to him as long as he's on the floor. That will really be the only way to slightly slow him down. Reading the thread that Harry linked about Lehigh liking to play man, this will be good for us because that is what St. Louis did, and we were able to keep it very close. IF they decide to go into zone, we're in big trouble...again. Lehigh sticks to man-to-man defense: Lehigh - 71 Mean Green - 67 Lehigh plays 15 min, or more in zone: Lehigh - 77 Mean Green - 58
  17. I fear you are exactly right! ...not for the reason you are insinuating though (Benford will kick some of the players off the team). Rather, some of these talented guys will leave on their own volition.
  18. Yes. We have a scheduled 4 (or 6, I can't remember) game home-home series set up with SMU starting in 2014.
  19. Yes... if they have not used all 5 of their eligibility years during their undergrad. They can TRANSFER and play immediately if they transfer into a post-grad program that is not offered at their previous school.
  20. Mac is certainly making solid (so they appear) additions on the JUCO front. I also like the Louisville addition at Safety. Let's hope that Pegram, Terrell, and Berglund also live up to their billing, and we could be in for big things next year. But, it still appears that Mac is gambling on his high school talent. Probably because his hand is being forced by good players not wanting to come here. If his gambles turn out to be busts, then be ready for another influx of JUCO guys again next year, and every year, until we win enough to attract good high school talent. This is a fine line to walk, because, as we learned with Dodge, too many JUCO guys and not enough high school guys slowly kills the roster.
  21. I think this is a horrible idea. Definitely not the direction we should go. If the teacher already has a CHL, MAYBE but all that does is let kids know that there's already a gun in the classroom and if they really want to, they can wrestle it away from the teacher, or if the teacher steps out take it out of her purse... etc. Just not a very good idea at all. Doesn't surprise me that this idea came from Rick Perry, King of saying things to rile-up ultra conservative people.
  22. Wait, again you are referencing a "message". I don't know if this is directed at me, but could you maybe define what this "message" is, and how my comments are in violation? Maybe you don't mean me, if not, OK. I'll move on. Concerning the bolded comment above, I don't know how to say it any more clearly: Maybe you weren't directing the bolded comment at me. If not, OK. I'll move on. I know the team and even the organization can, and probably should "support" him (in a grieving friend who made a mistake kind of way), and that appears to be intent of the players who encouraged him to come. And inferring from your comment above, you also believe the Cowboys organization should not "support" a drunk driver. I think there is a gray line there and he's squarely in the middle of it. If I'm Jerry Jones or Rich Dalrymple, I remove my organization from any interpretations by media/society by removing him from the sideline. That is exactly what they did. Does it mean that in private Jerry or Rich can't say, "Hey Josh, chin up. It's gonna be OK."? No. They certainly can! I think it's human nature to put your arm around a friend who made a huge mistake and say, "chin up". But at the same time, he needs to see prison time because of the ramifications of his actions. If he truly feels remorse and is ready to remedy his wrong after his punishment, he will hopefully come out of prison and go on a mission of speaking to NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL?/teams or anyone who will listen about the dangers of drunk driving. He can have a positive impact on society. I genuinely hope he does.
