  1. Whoa! Maybe I'm being mis-understood? Or, am I being had by a bit? I'm not trying to say the Cowboys are making an official stance: "Drinking and driving is Cool with us!!", by having Josh Brent on the sideline. That would be ludicrous. And I guess I'm totally lost on what you mean by: "Why is there a message at all?" I'm not trying to say that there is a "message" being sent by anyone. The Cowboys, the media, Josh Brent, anyone... Boiling it down, I'm saying: 1. Drunk Driving is wrong. Maybe this is a personal conviction that you and I don't share?!? I thought this stance was pretty much accepted in society as a whole. 2. A Drunk Driver who kills someone should be punished by the legal system to the fullest extent, as this is an unacceptable act. Again, maybe this is a personal conviction?? 3. When a Drunk Driver who kills someone is out on bond/bail, it's best to lay low and not be seen having a grand ol' time out in public. That projects a bit of crass-ness and lack of lament. This one may be more open to debate... and maybe this is where you're argument lies? I understand that he was brought to the game by concerned teammates. So this has nothing to do with the Cowboys as an organization, as all reports are indicating that officials had no idea he was going to be there. I do not believe the Cowboys are trying to "send a message". If anything, they sent their message when they asked him to leave the sideline. I'm sorry King, it seems I'm just getting blindly following media accusations hurled at me without any kind of points being made. Surely we are mis-understanding each other here? ...Otherwise, you pulled me way offside on this bit. Nice one.
  2. I appreciate this guy. I always thought that 'Secret Santa' meant someone purchased something to give away secretly. Not sure how people came to the idea that this was a giveaway. I think in reading most of the posts on this board, the support is certainly with the guys. I think it would be hard to argue that. It's the Head Coach that appears to be the sticking point with most. We'll all watch and hope that something 'clicks'. I know I will... regardless of how many nut-kicks I take. FYI, in my opinion, if anyone thinks that Rick V should be fired for the Benford hire, you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
  3. Looks like you were here for JJ. How far back? Did you not understand the bank he built up over his tenure here? A bad game here and there is perfectly acceptable for a coach who built this thing from the ground up to where we were. What we're seeing now, and what has us all in panic mode, is a new coach who is dismantling all of that with the greatest assembly of talent we've ever seen here. For me, the panic is rising because I fear we are getting dangerously close to 'losing the team'... and we're only 1/3 of the way through the year.
  4. Fun with the old "They beat us by 'X', and so-&-so beat them by 'X'" numbers: Robert Morris 66 @ ULL 61 Lehigh 89 @ Robert Morris 60 ULL 80 @ UNT 76 Lehigh ?? @ UNT ??
  5. Again, I promise I don't need media to tell me anything. The camera zoomed in on him on the sideline and before anyone (media, or anyone else) said anything, I said, "dude doesn't need to be there." Why? Because he is guilty of driving while drunk and killing someone. I don't understand why that makes me a media sheep. This is a pretty monumental screw-up wouldn't you say? It's not like he was caught stealing $50-$500. A life was lost because of the actions of this guy. And sure, Brown was probably sloshed as well when he got in the car, but that is not an excuse for his action. Again, there is a huge difference between forgiveness from the victim's family and societal acceptance. I chose not to accept drinking & driving. Ever. I don't need media to tell me, or "spin" (good grief) anything. It is wrong. It is wrong. It is WRONG.
  6. I actually agree with the SEC official's comments on Houston. An honest question for you, as you seem to be the only Houston follower here: Are you even slightly worried about the fragility of this new conference you're entering? I'm not trying to say you'll be back in C-USA or MWC or anything, I'm just curious if you guys are even slightly concerned that there may be a buzzsaw running behind door number 3 as you're about to walk in. Of course, it could be a new car! But it seems like Houston and SMU fans are willing themselves to ignore the possibility of a catastrophe, particularly after the 2013 season.
  7. I suppose it depends on what the priorities are and what the long-term vision is... If it's about butts in seats as you are indicating above, then it looks like we're the ugly nerd guy who just bought a new car (Apogee) and can lure the ugly girls to be with us while socking lots of money under our mattress. We'll have plenty of money, but we'll always be associated with the ugly girls, therefore we will always be ugly. The ceiling is very low. But, right now, it is VERY reachable, and looks enticing. What I would like for us to be is the ugly guy that gets a makeover to look suave. We still have the same new car, but when we look good, we can pursue the prettier girls (not supermodels, but pretty), and be associated with them. Eventually, everyone else takes notice of the formerly-ugly-dude-who-looks-good-now, and we can start putting that money in stocks to grow exponentially. This ceiling is much higher, and appears difficult to reach from where we are now...but we gotta start somewhere.
  8. I'm going to eat some major crow here... But with the signing of JUCO help on O-Line, it appears that Cam Feldt is not regarded as an answer to fill in next season (or not anticipated to make any impact). Good call Dr. Seuss.
  9. Oh boy... wow. The :36 mark shows me all I need to see on this guy. Turned it off after that. I agree AAUNT.
  10. Agree. I particularly appreciate Anderson Cooper's stance of not mentioning the name of the killer.
  11. Don't know if you may also be lumping me in with Mean Green 93-98, but I bet I would speak for him when saying that the media has Zero input on my conviction of: a drunk driver killing his passenger/anyone is a terrible thing. I don't need media or anyone else to tell me that. If the TV cameras didn't catch him on the sideline, then this would all be a moot point, because we'd probably never have known. Maybe that is your argument? If not, and your argument is that this guy who killed someone by driving while drunk should be fine to do whatever he pleases, I don't get it. His teammates were worried about his fragile psyche. OK. I certainly wouldn't want the guy to kill himself. I can understand internal guilt for this type of act. I'm sure he feels terrible, but in no way shape or form does that excuse his decision and the consequences that followed. The sooner he goes to prison the better. I think the Cowboys brass reacted the same way everyone else did, as it was reported that they asked him to leave the sideline when they found out he was there.
  12. That one girl even talked with me for a while until her boyfriend showed up!
  13. Hmmm. Kinda. Surely the thought ran through his mind that he was too drunk to drive? But he did it anyway. And it really is my business because we share the same roads. You do too. If you're tolerant of this behavior, it will increase. Do you really want that? This is this guy's second offense. No doubt he had done it several times in between. Probably because he got away with a slap on the wrist the first time. It's sad that a life had to end for him to <hopefully> see the light. ...odd that this has struck such a nerve with you King. I don't think I've ever seen you this riled-up about anything on here before.
  14. You are correct. I definitely like the idea of trickle-down. But I think we should really target schools that are peers for rivalries. That was my point. I'm not against playing UTSA or TXSt. But those are schools that we should be looking past. Instead, we're lowering our gaze to them. Good Grief! Listen to me, I sound like a Pony fan. Oh no.
  15. Thank you for some major clarifications...It lends to some minor concerns though. Lets talk baseball! Of course, it is easy to turn to major donors for large home run gifts, but us bottom-of-the-order guys who can bunt-sacrifice a guy from first to second to get him in scoring position also have a little to contribute too. Not as much as the home run hitter, but a contribution nonetheless. And the thing is, we WANT to (well, some of us do). I guess I will call the AD myself. My fear is that they may tell me "no thanks, you're not in the right network"?
  16. Why is this crap so secretive? The only time anyone (sorry, anyone not having strings to the AD) here ever heard of a basketball practice facility/Super Pit upgrade committee was after Khuene had already put them over the top and all the money they needed was already raised. Now, you're telling me there's a fundraising effort going on for a baseball team? I'm a Mean Green Club member (therefore more connected than just any regular alum, but obviously not as connected as some of you guys), and to my knowledge, I've never heard of the University's/AD's efforts to raise this money. Is my measly $50/100 not worth the effort? I bet there are many more folks out there like me, and our measly contributions would add up quickly. And Deep is certainly right to ask for details before pledging. It's really hard to blindly give without being presented a vision.
  17. Seems a few people don't have a proper understanding of what we currently have on our roster, and proper expectations for that assembly of players. As a matter of fact, a few people seem to BLAME the players. The same players that were within a few minutes of the SBC championship last year. A year older/better. I'm betting if someone were to cut the check on RV's desk today, Benford would be gone, despite all of these odd straw-man arguments about a negative image around firing coaches after 1 year. With this roster of players, the Mean Green should be competing with the top teams we're going up against. We should be blowing out SELA by at least 20. Although I was somewhat on board with Forrest back when JJ first left, I liked the Benford hire better than Forrest... Now, I wonder what this team would be doing under coach Forrest.
  18. No dude. This is a criminal trial. The mother is forgiving her son's killer... that is fine. Very admirable, and honestly, very Christ-like. But this does not/should not have any affect on a trial. The fact that she is forgiving her son's killer does not mean the guy should not be punished to the fullest extent of the law for what he's done. Inexcusable. Neither does it mean he should be cutting up on the Cowboys sideline. Again, why is this guy's behavior being excused?
  19. So lets look to Houston/UTEP/Rice/SMU... you know, teams who have been around a while. Why do we need to look to these startup/moveup teams to create rivalries??
  20. Probably kinda how they played against ULL where it 'counted' the first time.
  21. Lol. I've tried to tell him that before. At least he took my advice and started putting up bullet points (or numbered points in his case).
  22. Y'all. He killed someone. It doesn't matter how he feels. He KILLED someone. Why is there sympathy for this guy?!?
  23. For sure! ...until he has a down year later in his career and we have a couple of stud MI's ready to play. Then, send him somewhere else and eat majority of the money you owe him.
