  1. No one is saying that the students inserted this to intentionally disrespect the school/song. That would make no sense at all. BUT, by adding it, however much fun it may be for you to yell it, you have disrespected the song. Find a different song for an insertion like that. There's always "Fly Like an Eagle", or the 3rd Down Fanfare. You know, the students also recently added the "WHO?!?" into the Alma Mater. I don't particularly care for it because it will be antiquated soon when everyone knows who we are, but it's not a big deal... maybe because it's not an expletive... Sorry, I'm probably just an old fart. You and the other students on here that are trying to say the alumni are shunning/targeting you cannot be more wrong. Most of us are very happy you're here (at UNT, at Apogee, and on GMG.com) and want you guys to make a ton of noise, make Apogee a killer place to watch a football game, and a nightmare for opposing teams to play. But us old farts like what few traditions we have to be left alone if they're not going to be STRENGTHENED. I'm sorry, but adding an expletive is not strengthening the Fight Song.
  2. Mike Eli bleeds Green. NT40. greek. worked in the SAC office. Good guy.
  3. He moves SO well off the ball. Constantly putting himself in a position to score.
  4. I'm saying fast enough to occasionally break the sound barrier. You'll hear the sonic boom when Jordan throws down a crazy ally-oop.
  5. Apparently Jordan is more reliable outside as well? And, if Mitchell hangs outside, he will hurt opposing zones as well by either shooting, or blowing by his defender.
  6. I seem to recall quite vividly awaiting Shavod's decision between us and West Virginia on signing day. I don't remember Chevy's or Kyle's situations, so I don't know.
  7. So, did you guys see Jimmie Johnson hold off the field to get the win at the big race? Pretty exciting huh?
  8. I just gave a sizeable donation to Craig James' 2016 senate campaign in return for 5 hookers to be killed. I know he's good for it. Welcome to the Mean Green Family Soma!
  9. We're on the same team. Honestly, there may be a little misdirected frustration on the alumni part. I guarantee you if we were winning, complaining about greeks on the Hill and other tertiary stuff would be virtually non-existent. There is only so much complaining you can do about the actual product on the field before other stuff comes under fire as well. But... I bet there would still be a problem with the fight song.
  10. I'll be interested to see if they do this. You may be right, or it may come across as lack of severity and empower the insert.
  11. Hey GreenBat, looks like you don't have to campaign for Booger anymore! He's in the HOF!
  12. Good idea. Is it too late for you to change your letter to the editor from "Students should boycott the game", to "Students should stop the insanity so our fight song can be restored"? I don't know if Rick V can address the entire student section at Apogee, but I bet he could at the Super Pit. This is a good idea as well, and at least it could be curtailed at the basketball games. I don't agree with the addition making us sound "small time". I think maybe that was a wrong choice of words? "Small time" would be where we were when I was a student in the early 2000's where you could literally walk up to 20 random students on a Tuesday and maybe 5 of them could sing the entire fight song for you.
  13. Whoa! Looks like someone may have hijacked CougarKing's account. He is speaking too kindly about UNT.
  14. Now we're getting somewhere, and I knew discourse could occur with you, because unlike Cougar King, you did not quit when the going got tough at the greatest University of all time. As far as just a chant goes, I myself probably would not like it, but that's something you chalk up to students being students... kinda like the "Bullsh..." chant. I don't participate, but don't really care. When THE fight song is desecrated though, it's different. Obviously, you agree with that part. Where you and most of us disagree appears to be with the drum break being cut. The GB/administration felt it necessary in order to protect the fight song. I agree, until something else can be decided upon and the drum break can be added without the insertion. What would you recommend instead? Leave it alone and let it gain more steam? Something else? As far as getting loud while on offense and the wave, I'm right there with you. Getting loud on offense shows football ineptitude. The good thing is, with proper training, this can be remediated. It will just take some time. The wave is disrespectful to the players, saying: "You're not good enough for us, we need to find our own entertainment".
  15. We care because as you indicated above, there are times where your respect level should be elevated, such as a job interview. Singing your Alma Mater's fight song is one of those times, right? By the way, I'm VERY happy that you do not participate, could you please convince others around you to cease as well? When you're tailgating or just chilling at your house/apt., use whatever language you want... to your heart's content. In that scenario, you're right. Who cares? The fight song was altered because as Mr. Schumann stated, it is sacred. It is not to be messed with. When a horrible insertion is very much audible and easily recognizable by EVERYONE in Apogee/Super Pit, the GB/administration has no choice but to protect it. That's what they did, and it is very sad it had to come down to that. Do you really not care about one of the only traditions we have, in favor of just having a little fun at a football game? By the way... Kudos to you for wanting to be a High school English teacher. We need more people like you in that regard.
  16. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you are going in for your first interview after graduation, if you graduate. I'd imagine it may go something like this... After you are cleared for an interview simply because you attended the finest University on the planet: Potential Boss: "Hello MeenerGreener, how are you today?" MeenerGreener: "Sup, M F'er! I'm ready for you to hire me now." Former-Potential Boss: "Security, please escort MeenerGreener out."
  17. Dude! If this is genuinely his final four, I REALLY like our chances... unless he just really wants to go to California, or TCU to Big East may sway his decision in that direction. A couple of big wins against Creighton, KS St, or St Louis, and Lehigh @ home may sway his decision.
  18. Several of the open deep receivers I saw were because the DB's bit on play fakes. Credit Malzahn's crazy offense. There was deception everywhere. I remember one of the deep TD's in particular, the slot receiver came in motion (a-la Chancellor), and Aplin faked the handoff to him, then faked the handoff to the RB. All DB's bit on one fake or the other, and voila! a quality QB hits an open receiver and he jogs in for a TD. So discipline against over-aggressisniff may be to blame, but not all of them were because of bad zone coverage.
  19. Man, get in line... no one knows the answers. It all started when we laid a turd against Troy at home. The game was dominated by the Mean Green, but due to an aberration of ineptitude in the kicking game, we left at least 15 points on the field. Most agree that the defense is doing well except for our inexperienced CB's, but the offense has been figured out because we are trying to run the ball and control the clock, so opposing defenses stack the box and stop us even though our offensive line is playing great. It's hard to run when the line of scrimmage is 7 or 8 defenders against 5 or 6 blockers. Now, why don't we throw more? Pick your theory: QB is not good enough, WR's are not good enough, HC McCarney is hamstringing OC Canales... who knows?
  20. Oh! Because adding <MF'ing> into the fight song is what ALL Big time schools do! I'm so glad we're aspiring to be big time!!!!1! And who in the world is advocating no tailgating??? I PROMISE dude: One day you will look back and think, "Wow, that was really stupid."
  21. I noticed that we didn't do the drum break at the ASU game... I cannot believe this is the reason why. So sad, but admittedly, so necessary. If you are a student reading this and you partake in the "addition" to the fight song, please stop. It makes us sound like our student body is full of technical college students, not well-educated students like I know all of you are.
  22. Lol. Give it some time kid... My truck is wired with 1500w of Rockford-Fosgate power to 2 Boston Acoustic 10's (hit HARD for 10's) and Infinity Kappa Perfect components. I love bass, and any rap song bumps hard in there. When I'm driving by myself, I can turn my favorites on. But when I'm riding with my 2yr old, you can catch me with the UNT Early Childhood Music CD singing Rickabamboo or Charlie Over the Ocean. And it sounds awful, but I'll be a suck-egg dog if I turn on any Biggie/2Pac with my daughter in there.
  23. Way to go ladies! Women's soccer = best, most consistent program in the athletic department.
  24. I like this guy. Lol. Frazier would probably start immediately. I would kill 5 hookers to have a backcourt of Jones & Frazier.
