  1. If they are going to make a change then they need to do it now. The transfer window opens in a couple weeks, players are already looking around at other options. They need someone that can keep the players here, as well as recruit transfers.
  2. Great game and a good win. I get the feeling UNI is a better team that many have predicted, their interior defense made it hard for UNT to penetrate, and they were able to generate some quality looks on the other side of the ball.
  3. It seems like everything related to the NCAA is destined to be determined by a court of law. The NCAA seems reluctant to fix these problems, I wonder if they even can?
  4. The AD, head coach, and most of the staff all got replaced during the fall transfer window, the prime recruiting window for college football. What ever recruiting they had lined up left with Seth and his staff. When Morris showed up in in December, he didnt have a recruits lined up for UNT, he didnt even have a staff, and the window had already been opened a couple weeks, so all the good players and coaches had already committed to other schools. The rules are different with the NIL and portal now, players are being recruited and re-recruited all year long. Programs need to have their staffs in place prior to the transfer window opening if they want to have a chance at building a team for the following season.
  5. First off, this was going to be a rebuilding year. Second, Morris was a late hire, had virtually no recruiting, missed most of the fall transfer window, and most of the good assistant coaches were already committed to other schools.
  6. The basic fundamentals of the game are lacking, particularly tackling. I also noticed in today's game that there was a lot of ball watching. You fix this with tackling drills, and it should have been done in the summer before the season. I also noticed a lot of stopping and watching, as if they were at practice doing a soft run through on plays (on both sides of the ball), and it makes me wonder if practices are soft with minimal contact How much is on the DC? Opposing offenses are going right at us, knowing UNT players cant tackle, players are in position to make plays and fail to do so. Even with the best DC in college football, if the players tackling fundamentals are poor, then the result will be the same.
  7. I agree with you on the terminology, however that was the language used by the NCAA in the official release. Which was obviously used to appeal to the sponsors and advertisers. I have always preferred using the traditional terms "high major" and "mid major."
  8. The AAC being considered a 2 bid conference before the season even starts is a massive improvement from where we were.
  9. Guess we will have to wait and see how that plays out, and how strictly they follow to the NET.
  10. If it keeps 7th and 8th place P6 teams out of the NCAAT, then it will open up more bids for mid major conferences. If thats how the committee looks at it then I am OK with it. The "first 4 out" will be given "deference" according to the rule, would assume that means a top seed and a home game. Some in that group are P6 schools, they would have been there anyway in the old rules. You could make the same argument for the "next 4 out" whom typically get the 2 seed (also a home game). So I dont think it will change a whole lot, there still going to be someone that is left out, what happens to that 13th P6 school? will they stick to the NET rankings?
  11. The rule isn't restricting them from the tournament, just from an auto bid. This may also effect NCAAT selections, perhaps the committee will not feel compelled to select some of those 7th and 8th place P6 schools, if their are already guaranteed a post season in the NIT.
  12. The schools that do it right use football games for more then just a game. They put the entire school on display, student groups, academic achievements, donors and sponsors showing off. It is utilized as a major networking event between students, alumni, the professional world, and potential students. I have friends and business colleagues take me to games at other universities (P5 and G5 level) and there is a lot more going on then just a game. UNT has not had that for many years now.
  13. Is the DC really to blame for all this??? The basic fundamentals (tackling, positioning, where to put your hands) is so poor, the players are unable to execute the game plan, its hard to blame it all on the DC. Granted, Caponi got here late, hired after the transfer window closed, likely didnt recruit anyone, talent wise they are probably 125th in the nation. The transfer window opens in a little over a month, if they want to make a change at DC then now is the time to do it, so that they can have one in place when the portal opens.
  14. The tackling is horrible, its a basic fundamental of the game. I see too many players trying to make tackles by grabbing at their opponents shoulder pads, instead of wrapping an opponent up and bringing them down. If they are going to fire the DC, then the time to do it is now! That way they can have next season's DC in place before the transfer window opens.
  15. How much would this really change the field? There was always going to be a handful of P6 schools that get invites, and those mid-major bubble schools that dont get an at large bid to the NCAAT will still likely receive invitations.
  16. Our problem is branding and lack of sports culture on campus. The student turn out is terrible, and the student body is larger then it has ever been. Its not because the team isnt winning, I remember plenty of bad seasons where student turn out was still good. there is no social culture for students when it comes to game day.
  17. Tulane is a tiny school, I dont think they have much of a following outside their core of students and alumni, so not really surprised by the numbers. I was out bar hopping on my harley that day, and every place I went had the game on with people actively watching it.
  18. For me the jury is still out on Morris, he hasn't had a full year of recruiting yet, so it wouldn't be fair to make a judgment, he is still coaching a lot of Seth's recruits. Lets be honest, if this would be Morris's 3rd season and UNT was 3-4, many people on this board would be calling for his removal.
  19. The bottom of the conference was to weak in CUSA... the AAC was not very strong either last season, and may have only had 1 team in the Tournament had it not been for Memphis beating Houston in the conference championship. The AAC will be a much better conference, already getting positive attention in the national media, and should be a multi-bid conference.
  20. The rebuild started 10 months ago when we replaced the AD, the head coach, and assistant coaches. The timing of it all definitely cost us in recruiting, re-recruiting, and transfers. Morris has not even had a full year of recruiting to build a team, so the rebuild will continue through next season.
  21. This is a rebuilding year, I don't think there is a such thing as a "must win game" during a rebuild.
  22. the only thing that gets kids to put down their phones these days is FOOD... If you feed them they will come. or at least give them a coupon for chick-fil-a
  23. I think this rebuild continues into next season, so 2025
  24. Under Mac, UNT played long possession, slow pace, and defense first. If they play that way under Hodge then I think they can run with any of the top teams in this conference.
  25. I would almost rather see UTA as an away game, UNT did travel well there last year, and an away game does more for NET rankings.
