  1. As far as football is concerned the whole P5/G5 thing is coming to and end. There will be 2 conferences that matter SEC and BIG10, everyone at the FBS level will be in that 2nd tier. Those remaining conferences will have to partner up and work together on a media arrangement, not necessarily combine.
  2. Good pick up for the Mavs, just made summer league more interesting for sure
  3. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/penny-hardaway-suspended-memphis-coach-out-first-three-games-of-2023-24-season-over-recruiting-violations/ We are going to have to keep an eye on Memphis, this is not their first infraction, they are already on probation.
  4. Thats what I liked about the Star, lots of places to eat or drink directly next to it
  5. With college football there is a limited number of network and cable channels, each channel can broadcast 4 games per day, and just all the games are on Saturdays. Far more D1 games being payed, then networks to broadcast them, so the rest go to streaming. With college basketball there is more media flexibility, there are actually a few more networks, games are shorter, and games can be played any day the week.
  6. UCONN games are played in the #1 media market in the country. I would think that their media value from basketball would off set their football teams media value.
  7. I dont think the issue is over what SMU or SDSU bring to the PAC... I think the issue is what the PAC can offer these schools going forward. It seems more schools are wanting to leave the PAC then join, and that situation is not going to get them a solid media deal. There might be more media money (could be less), games will be streamed instead of being on network/cable TV, but they get to put "PAC?" on their uniforms (which meant something 20 years ago).
  8. Is there anything around Dickies? like sports bars or a decent place to pregame before going in? Thats the one thing I did like about the Star
  9. The Big12 is not going to be football super conference like the SEC and BIG10 going forward. However for basketball the Big12 can be the top conference.
  10. The AAC is the better conference, better media markets better time zones. An association between conferences might work, though I dont know if enough schools would be interested. As for UNT specifically, I think an OOC relationship with the MWC would be mutually beneficial
  11. That would be a big game, both coming off good seasons finishing top 50 in NET. Also its AAC vs Mountain West, and thats going to have implications in March.
  12. I think its going to be a very tight conference, several schools will be riding some positive momentum heading into the season. I hope to see the entire AAC do well in OOC play, and solidify this league as a multi-bid conference.
  13. PAC12 just lost their 2 biggest schools financially, they are on the verge of loosing their next two in Washington and Oregon to the Big10, and they do not have a media deal. whats going to be left of the Pac12? they would no longer be a power conference, and would likely need to merge with the MWC, while watching a couple of their schools join the big12.
  14. when you look at al the shuffling, I think the AAC has played its hand very well by concentrating on schools in large media markets. no doubt this will be a solid basketball conference, easily a multi bid conference. As for football, its going to take longer, but being in those large media markets is going to boost the AAC when compared to whats left in big12 and pac12.
  15. Sorry but I dont feel the hype on this one, Cal is not a major football power, they dont play in the SEC or Big10, and there is no regional rivalry. The only home game on the schedule that I might attend is the Memphis game, I think that could be a good rivalry for UNT long term.
  16. I agree we needed a coaching change, but they waited way to long to fire Seth, they were several weeks into the transfer window when they announced a new coach. Seth should have been fired no later then week 8, and a new coach should have been named before the transfer window opened.
  17. I still think we are a 3 win team, I dont think the school handled the coaching change properly, they generated little momentum in the portal, I just hope they can find something to build off of heading into 2024.
  18. Playing in the AAC next year, attendance number will be way better. Home games against new conference opponents like Memphis, Wichita state, and SMU. We also get UTA at home this season, they usually bring a crowd. The AAC has been built to be a basketball conference, and I expect it to be more exciting to watch then football.
  19. I like that we get to play UTA every season, though I would prefer that this game be played in Arlington for ranking purposes, and UNT does seem well when games are in the Metroplex.
  20. Do players really want the scholarship or are they just after that NIL money? The portal and the NIL is really starting to devalue the educational side of college athletics.
  21. A rivalry needs to go both ways, the only school that we currently have that with is UTSA. Looking forward its going to depend on scheduling, we are not going to play every school every year (except SMU).
  22. 3-9 its going to be a rebuilding year, I'm just hoping they can build some sort of momentum to build on in 2024, and not loose talented players to the portal.
  23. All resources... NO However I would be OK if some of those resources transferred from Football to Basketball. With a little more effort from the school, UNT could be a tournament bound team every year. I would rather see UNT Basketball in the Big Dance every year, then see UNT Football play in some meaningless bowl game.
  24. wow, good tournament!!! the winner will clearly be in the top 25
  25. I would like to see at least 1 MWC school on the schedule, maybe 2 if we can get into the right preseason tournament. I am tired of seeing the MWC get 4 bids to the big dance, so it would be nice to have a few more AAC schools play MWC schools, maybe change the way the committee thinks.
