  1. What Dickey took over was a paper house. He basically built up something that was more like cardboard. It held up until Tulsa poured water on it and the entire thing fell apart. Dodge comes in and takes the wet cardboard and sets the thing on fire. McCarney took over as the university decided to build up an actual house for the program because of the embarrassing level in which we lived, only to see that support get set on fire, too. What SL inherited and built was going from ashes into something to actually live/work in. And what Eric Morris appears to be doing so far is douse this place in gasoline.
  2. Wow…we got an original back. I really am starting to think we are back in the SBC…
  3. I’d like to see it. I had us losing to La Tech at the beginning of the season, but beating FIU. We could be feeling better if we can get to 2-2, no doubt. I fear 1-11 is very, very possible, though.
  4. McCarney remains the first coach we have hired since Bob Tyler to have had FBS head coaching experience. That has really shown, ESPECIALLY with the two worthless HS coaches we hired. Everyone else, except Corky Nelson, has been an OC at FBS levels when they got hired here. Corky, a DC, probably did more with less than anyone. That’s why I wanted Gary Patterson. A defense first guy in a state where everyone else focuses on offense first. I’d like to think he could do what Hayden Fry did coming here from the other DFW private. But it’s a moot point now.
  5. I went back to look at some things from when we joined the SBC in 2001. Because that is when we started playing in a conference we could compete in and we began making headway with students and alumni of that era. But I also wanted to see how who we have beaten to try and see what our records have been against teams people have heard of and care about. Our record since 2001 is 109 and 163, .401 winning percentage. Of those 109 wins, 99 are against FBS teams. We have 10 wins against Middle Tennessee, 7 versus Rice, 7 versus UTEP, 6 against Louisiana-Lafayette, 6 against Florida Atlantic, 5 against Florida International, 5 against Idaho, 5 against Louisiana-Monroe, 5 against Western Kentucky, 5 against Southern Miss, 5 against UTSA, 4 against Arkansas State, 4 against NMSU, 3 against SMU, 3 against La Tech, 2 against Utah State, 2 against Troy, 2 against Ball State, and 2 over Army. Single wins over Cincy, Baylor, Indiana, South Alabama, Tulsa, UNLV, Marshall, UAB, ODU, Arkansas, and Liberty. Our FBS record has been 99-162, a .379 winning percentage. We are 10-1 versus FCS. Against teams that are currently Power Schools (not SMU), we have won 4 games, with wins over Cincy in the NO Bowl, Baylor and Indiana here in Denton, and at Arkansas. Against FBS Texas teams in that span, we are 0-2 against TCU, 0-1 versus Texas Tech, 0-4 against Texas, 1-1 against Baylor, 3-8 against SMU, 0-3 against UH, 7-5 against Rice, 7-3 against UTEP, and 5-6 against UTSA. 23-33 (.411) against FBS Texas teams since '01. Conference record vs SBC and CUSA was 82-85 between 2001-2022. Obviously, we have found conferences that we have been competitive in, for the most part. Hoping the AAC will show to be that way, too, over the next decade or so.
  6. Good grief, who, besides UNT, would hire a coach with that kind of performance on the defensive side of the ball? We deserve what we get.
  7. Who is at the press conference from the media besides Vito and the NT Daily reporter? Because that is also an issue in that nobody from DFW cares enough to send anyone up to Denton to ask tough questions, too.
  8. Going by this HSO, we should have about 500 people at the next game.
  9. I give SL all the credit in the world with getting Mason Fine here. He knew Fine was better than anyone he inherited or could bring in. His contacts in the Oklahoma HS ranks helped him get Fine, but SL pulled it off. Like McCarney, when SL lost that solid QB, it was over…just took a few years to prove it.
  10. College football knows their brands are surrounding basically about 30 schools. The next 30 are just historically connected to the first 30, although there are a few titles in that group. Their networks want Texas and Alabama, not North Texas and South Alabama. Them letting North Texas and South Alabama compete for a spot in March Madness and the College World Series for men and women is how they avoid any chance of an antitrust suit. Of course, their grads dominate the judiciary and legislatures, so its not as if they have to worry about that, either.
  11. From 1943-2022, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee Georgia, Florida, Clemson, FSU, Miami, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC have won the AP/CFP all but 9 titles.
  12. I predicted 4-8 at the beginning of the season and I would gladly take that RIGHT NOW if we could do that. I'm praying we get to 2 wins at this point.
  13. Gary Patterson was who I advocated for this time a year ago. It didn't happen. Morris isn't leaving for at least 2 seasons, at a bare minimum. GP would get a lot of interest, no doubt. And I think getting his batteries recharged would help him if he wants to coach again. BUt we have no idea if he wants to do that again, if he wants to engage in this new portal and NIL world, and most importantly, when considering the last part, we have no idea if he would even consider coming here to coach, since we have no money or following, as compared to what he was used to at TCU and when compared to almost every other FBS team in the region.
  14. It would cost too much to fire someone after 1 year of a longer deal, even if Morris isn’t highly paid. This ain’t SMU where alums can write checks to get rid of coaches, get into conferences, and pay for players. If you want to get the best idea going forward, it’s for the program to honestly see if it can do anything in the next 3 years under Morris and if it can’t, like we are Dodge 2.0 again and we win like 6 games in the next three years, I think we need to seriously ask ourselves if FBS is in our best interests. We moved up in 1995, not because we wanted to win, but because we could make more whoring out ourselves. Then, as the university grew and we could get students to pay for the stadium and majority of the program’s funding, we moved up budget-wise to a nice G5 program. But it just doesn’t translate on the field. 6 winning seasons out of 28 seasons. Maybe FCS in today’s environment would just be better for us.
  15. Apathy is a cancer…and it’s all over the organs of the patient.
  16. Yep. Remember that Cerebus showed a graph during the RV days that Wren Baker also showed in his days as AD that UNT alums don’t give in any decent way, like 2% at most give back to athletics. I’d imagine it’s that way for the rest of the school, too, to be honest. I’ll be interested to see how things are here in the 2030s and beyond, though. Our alumni since 2011 have seen us at least try to have a legitimately funded program. And Denton has turned into a place where students do want to go instead of settling on going there because it was cheap and close. Maybe that will help with giving from alumni in the next 5+ years ahead?
  17. Remember when Chico used this exact philosophy in our season ender against UTEP in 2015? He let Josh Greer play at QB since it was the last game of an abysmal season and he threw a Pick Six (shocker) that ended up costing us the chance at actually winning a game…
  18. The only thing that keeps me from going to quit football is the naive notion that college football here gives young men a chance at a free education to hopefully better themselves with in the future. Literally, it’s the only thing. But it’s a damn big one.
  19. We are now 128-205 since we moved up to I-A (FBS) in 1995. That’s with 7 head coaches, 4 conferences, and 2 stadiums. In the end, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. We have 6 winning seasons since then. We have won 9 games in 4 seasons as our best record and we have had 1 year with 8 wins. That’s it. Sad, but it’s our truth.
  20. Rice beat a Dodge team 77-20, when they scored that in three quarters and just gave us mercy after that. Rice will murder us this year.
  21. Littrell is also laughing with his buyout we gave him… We know Morris will be here for at least 2 more years. It’s gonna be a tough ride if he is indeed Dodge 2.0.
  22. There’s nothing wrong with that. Wichita State hasn’t been hurt by leaving football behind..
