  1. Unless you only care about bigger donors and have contracts that get extended for staying in budget, like RV had. The sad thing about attendance is that we even have an issue with it. A school this big with this large of an alumni base, in a giant metro area and we can’t sell out the 31k seat football stadium even one time EVER and the 10k seat Super Pit hasn’t seen a crowd of close to capacity in decades. But as someone said, it’s not like the Murchison Center is ever filled to capacity or the Art Department can’t keeP people from seeing an art exhibit or dance performance because too many people are attending. Literally, nobody cares about ANYTHING the university sponsors in any decent number. It’s like the complete 180 degree opposite of A&M, where the brain washing is so strong that these people only wear maroon and khaki and drive maroon cars.
  2. The AD makes a pathetic effort and the school spirit is like an ember that is in need of something to get it burning, but too many people just walk by the pit and won’t even attempt to help.
  3. It's a real question to ponder, but what is it gonna take? I've been told that it would take us being a winner. Then, it was we need to make a postseason tournament. No, we need to have wins in the NCAA Tournament or NIT. We have done all of this. The only times I ever see anyone in Denton show up big time for a game in the Super Pit is for games against power teams from the region (Tech, SMU, OSU, etc...) Otherwise, nobody goes. So they basically go to watch the other team play, whether to see the other team win or get beat. Who is making it so cool for the students and the local citizenry to be apathetic or hate our sports teams STILL in 2025?? I mean, I get that when we were in the SLC, Big West, the SBC, or even CUSA 3.0, people could look down on the situation we were in. But the American is the BEST conference situation we have ever been in for the current NCAA Basketball environment--brand names that have made big runs in the tournament over the years like Memphis, Wichita State, Temple, Tulsa, Charlotte, UAB, and even, now, Florida Atlantic with their recent Final Four run. And we have in-state games still with Rice and UTSA. And all of that equals being THRILLED to have over 4000 in attendance... I'll never understand. And it will not make a lick of sense to me when we see about 500 people in FW for the AAC conference tournament, either. All it does is reinforce to the local media that we are some commuter school that even our alumni and students don't care about. And maybe, in the end, that's the reality that will never change, either.
  4. Kinda interesting to see what the Power Conferences' media is saying about Ross. Mid- and low-major college basketball coaches ready for power conference jobs - ESPN
  5. He's Ben Gooding. Lonnie is Tom McCrackin
  6. Man, I'm so confused right now.
  7. I actually believe the AAC Conference Tournament Champ won't be Memphis. I'd guess that it will us, UAB, or Wichita State. If it's us, it'll be us beating Memphis in the final. From recent history, the semifinal game against UTSA/UAB scares me to death. But if we could win that game, I'd like our chances against Memphis a lot.
  8. This loss was not painful, Lonnie...it didn't hurt anything at all. Just showed that the guys will fight back to the end. Literally, nothing changed from losing this close one.
  9. We got a great chance to make the NCAA Tournament if our team doesn’t crap itself AND we bring a strong crowd to FW. If we can’t support them in this thing. then it’s probably moot anyway to ever see thing matter to anyone beyond this board.
  10. Never easy going to play someone on Senior Day. We are finding that out today.
  11. Never easy going to play someone on Senior Day. We are finding that out today.
  12. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. The students overwhelmingly don’t care about watching our team play people they don’t care about. Sure, SMU, Tech, Baylor, etc…they show up in Denton and students care. Anyone else? Not so much. It is what it is.
  13. I don’t believe so…
  14. UTSA…I believe it was 45 points
  15. Atin Wright going all Jesse Ratliff on Senior Night at the Super Pit. If you were there in 1994, you remember it…
  16. UNC is the crown jewel of the next round of realignment--they are the jackpot for whoever gets them. Only Notre Dame gives you more than UNC. They are a basketball blue blood, a football program that is well-known and regarded, they are one of the top public schools in academics in the country, and they are the premier program in a very large state. Clemson and FSU are valuable, too, but nobody has the true combo of value that UNC provides. UNC has enough coattails to even bring along Duke and/or NC State with them wherever they go.
  17. It is what it is. Nothing ever changes, win or lose. The administration/AD knows they have all those student fees and that's enough for them. On the rare occasion where we have a bigger crowd, everyone freaks out and usually end up losing. The attendance issues are varied, but across the board, I do think that the NIL/Portal crap is wearing down on the people who used to love the sport and now see how its tearing the sport apart. Superconferences don't help, either. Folks know that the SEC, B1G, Big 12, ACC, and Big East will always get the preferential treatment and that schools like ours are basically playing for NIT berths unless we win our conference. People get tired of that...not just here, either. This team deserves so much more than they've gotten from the entire university for how much success they've had this season. But the players and coaches know their payoff is coming in the future--somewhere else up the foodchain.
  18. It won’t surprise me one bit if Wichita State is this year’s version of UAB from last season, winning the conference tournament. They are athletic and have started playing much better in these last few weeks.
  19. All we are saying is that it must be nice to have that support, that money, those opponents, etc… Tech got into the club in the 90s. They made it. Long before their SWC leftovers. And Rice now feels what it’s like to be UNT and UTEP, programs left out by the other state schools. It is what it is.
  20. More likely, the administration hires people like Mosley precisely because he's cheap AND he isn't from here, so he's not going to cause any problems for them. RV was here for 16 freaking years, all because he agreed to do two things: stay within the budget and never complain about it...then he insulated himself further by fleecing 17 people into feeling like they were big wigs, which bought him at least 5 years. Wren was fine here, probably the best we've ever had, but he knew that the greener pastures were not in Denton, they were up the foodchain. And that he wasn't from here didn't exactly cause any problems for the UNT administration.
  21. If we extend him, just make sure he can be bought out in a few years if things turn the other way. That’s my answer. If you can’t/wont buy him out if needed, then don’t extend him.
  22. Lubbock sucks, but their people love sports and supporting Tech. Denton does nothing like that and never will.
  23. Wow—sorry…I thought USF was in the Dance. I knew FAU did, but forgot UAB won it all.
  24. Actually, it was USF and FAU. It's just the typical UNT luck to finally be in a league that traditionally has been able to send multiple schools to the Dance, then have a very good team, but see only Memphis have a squad that is worthy of the Dance and nobody else, so we get left out, unless we win the conference tournament. I'd love to think we could pack Dickies Arena and create a big home court advantage, since nobody else in the conference is located within 4 hours of that building, while we have hundreds of thousands of students, alumni, faculty, etc...within an hour of that building. But if we do show up big, that just seems to scare the $hit out of teams, so we fall apart and lose, so maybe it's better to just let the apathy help our guys to feel less pressure.
