  1. It's certainly more exciting than reading about "the Todd Dodge fiasco" nearly every day.

  3. Basketball recruit Forrest Robinson of Eastland is playing Monday night (7/25) in the THSCA basketball game at Daniel Meyer Coliseum for those of you in the area. FoxSports Southwest is tape delaying the game at 11:00 Monday night also.

  5. National prominence? We were in the Top 20 for two weeks in his time in Denton. That is amazing considering we've never reached that level since, but it's hardly nationally prominent. Could you name all the schools that were in the Top 25 for three weeks or less last basketball season? Blakeley has the best winning percentage for a coach we've ever had (at least among those with several seasons). But he's third in wins, and never reached or won a postseason game. People always say we need higher standards at NT. Naming the court after Blakeley would hardly debunk that thought. On the other hand, retire Lyons jersey already. Now that he's graduated there is no excuse.

  8. So? what so bad about being a homer? and hes transfering from OU.... Not North Texas....to try to compare this to RD again is a lil ridiculous but hey its gmg.com ive come to expect some strong opinions. RD didnt transfer becuz of PT, hell with Darius Carey being dismissed he probably wouldve been the starting WR , something you couldnt say about Marcus Trice....OU is stacked at WR with Broyles and just about every other position is stacked so you cant really call someone a quitter if they are leaving to the team for PT

  9. Albeit a transfer, what a great add-on to our upcoming recruiting class. Now if we could just get that HS running back about 12 minutes from me over at Aledo High School. Hey, we might as well shoot for the moon because I think Coach McCarney seems to be doing just that.

  10. Has any other HC had a new stadium to recruit to? In all fairness, these Rival ratings have not always been around. If so, Milton Collins would have been a 5 star; and many others 4*.

  11. WHAT?!?! No "quitter" comments? Hmmmm, I guess since it benefits us that's a different matter.........

  12. Oh....I didn't know Kram was one of "those guys".

  13. Hell, yes! Some of us posted about this guy in May or June. He started on OU's special teams as a freshman and blocked a punt. The kid's a gamer.

  18. August 15 is also the first day single game tickets go on sale for this football season. Coincidence?

  19. I expect stupid comments coming directly from the kids. You would think that an adult coach would clean up the kids thought to the media. Moreover, explain to the kid that it's a free education wherever he goes and that he should consider playing time; coming out of Frankston, Texas. This is all about the coach and how he may benefit!

  25. Folks, I have no indication of what the amount or the source or the purpose of this donation might be, and anyone who tells you what it is may well be into simple speculation, but there is "chatter" about several different areas including athletics and academics. So, let's just hold our jets and see. It is a big deal and one the University is handling in a big way with an announcement event. I found out as I was sent an invitation to the event through the Alumni Association as a board member. My wife and I are definitely going, and we are super excited for UNT. Whatever it is...stadium, academics, alumni or a combination of some sort, it is a GREAT thing and will be an eventful and exciting day in the history of this great University of ours. Let the speculation continue, but whatever it is, I am really happy to see the University beginning to pick up such support. man, this is great news. Say what you will, but GREAT things are happening for UNT. WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED! Go Mean Green!

  26. Doesn't say it is a donation, but a private commitment.

  27. Naming rights isn't a donation.

  28. If this is a corporate sponsorship, then there are two parties to this deal and we can't dictate terms of the announcement.

  29. ....or it is just so epic that it warrants the wait.

  30. Could still be finalizing the minor details.

  36. Good to see this write-up and the sidebar piece in today's DRC...just on the same day that some idiot named "Smith" has a letter to the editor published calling for RV's firing! Denia resident perhaps? Either way, the guy has no clue. GO MEAN GREEN!

  39. --- All of those bank bailouts occurred in 2008.... before the 2008 election. ---I very much agree with spending cuts.... but not just to programs that were put into place by just the other party which seems to be the big problem. There are two issues to a balanced budget.... more income ( taxes.. I don't want new ones just just SOME of the old ones put back ) and less spending which partly occurred because the unnecessary Iraq war and those insane earmarks really that went crazy. Just don't cut things that should not be cut even if a member of the other party got it passed. --I get tired of hearing those imply the debt problem just occurred after the current guy walked it... it didn't.

  40. No - they only have lowercase god, like a Baal or Egyptian guy - because the Red Wings are pure evil sent from hell to destroy us and cloud the message of Jesus.

  41. There was a winger that bob Sturm was high on InsideCorner, but I can't find him. Sadly, Sturm is on vacation, so all we really have is Heika to talk about local stuff. I can't find anything too compelling from him, but he does support my take the talent strategy: http://starsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2...y-on-skill.html Also, saw Zubov's house is up for sale. It's probably time to move on, but that depresses the hell out of me.

  42. I think someday we will look back and think of all the people at the AAC at Zubov to shoot more as the same type of people who booed Aikman during his last couple of seasons. We'll probably never see that pure a passer in a Stars jersey ever again. I'm still holding out hope he comes back. We need Bouwneister, but our cheap owner will probably keep us 6-8 million under the cap this summer. If he ever sold the Stars, they would be able to sign a free agent or two right away, which is nice.

  44. The league over (KHL) is starting to pay players - including non-Russians like Ray Emory and a few others - more money than NHL teams can now and have stolen a few mid-level talents back from the NHL. There was someone in Nashville who scored about 25 goals a few years ago and now I think Viktor Kozlov is headed over there from the Caps. Plus, there's been issues with getting players out of Russia (Ovechkin and Malkin had big issues a few years ago, for example.) With Swedish players being suddenly the "in" nationality, everyone figures they can work around dealing with them. The NHL Draft is different - some of these kids go to college after being drafted (that's part of the fun of the Frozen Four - some guys you start learning about are held by teams and enter the AHL afterwards.) Think of the AHL as AAA and then all of the stuff underneath it as the Rookie, Single A, Double A, etc. The college players can leave at any time (I think even in season) if they are ready to go pro, which makes it different than the other sports as well. The Stars picked the best talent for them at each spot, but it was interesting that they went for a different mix of size and skill than before. They've loaded up on D-Men in the last 3 drafts more than I remembered, but we'll see where this goes. I've seen nothing but praise for it so far on few scouting sites, but we won't know for years if it's worth it. Also, rumor is that Gustavsson will announce his decision tomorrow, but we'll see.

  46. I don't think its THAT hard to understand that both are bad. Raising taxes is not the answer. Again and again....if you want to increase tax revenues...LOWER TAXES! Agree UNT90, a refresher of Eco 101 would be good for some folks, but not if you are a Keynesian or if the nut case teaching the course is a Keynes disciple. Just sayin.....
