Ut/unt Recruiting

Over the past few years, UT extends and accepts verbals for their next class; 2-3 weeks after National Signing Day in February. All others, heretofore, appear to sit back and wait until they have the pick of the litter. Recruiting will soon be over for their 2012 class and they will move on the 2013 class. Did this practice finally backfire on them with the results of this past year? I can think of many kids that did not develop until their senior year and/or did not even start as a junior.

Do you guys think that Gaines and McCarney will try to get more aggressive early on or just wait for the best leftovers? Lastly, what is the latest on the early signing period for HS football players? BTW, I'm not giving up on the 2011 class!

Thanks

No way it backfired, they still ended up with a top 10 class. Would've been top 3 if not for the coaching turnover. Your top recruits are going to be multi-year varsity players.

Mac and the crew will try and get off to a strong start in 2012 recruiting just as every other school will. Being our position you want to have a nice balance of early verbals and showing patience and getting a few late bloomers.

It would be nice to see an early signing period but there hasn't been much talk of it lately.

I saw an article the other day about the 2006 Fab 55 and how those players have fared at the next level. The majority that went to UT were a bust as far as being starters was concerned. They were mostly special teams, played a few games or left school/transferred. A couple were stars and one a superstar that fell down the stairs. I think recruiting kids at sophomore level is limiting, but UT starts then and they get top 5 recruiting classes consistently. Maybe they should be able to make that pay-off more. Their problem now is they don't have the stud hoss QB like they've had for the last 5/6 years.
