Trojans-Falcons Game Review

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Freddie Barnes caught 15 passes, leading to 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as the Bowling Green Falcons bounced back to defeat the Troy Trojans in non-conference play, 31-14, at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.

Bowling Green (1-0) quarterback Tyler Sheehan converted 32-of-44 passing for 339 yards and a couple of scores in the triumph as well.

The Trojans (0-1) were paced by Levi Brown who completed 28-of-44 for 263 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice and sacked two times in the setback on the road.

The Trojans scored the first points of the game, the first-ever meeting between the two squads, when DuJuan Harris made his way into the end zone on a two-yard run in the first quarter.

Troy built a 14-0 advantage at the 9:29 mark of the second frame when Jerrel Jernigan reeled in a 12-yard scoring strike.

With just under four minutes to play in the first half, BGSU got on the scoreboard when Sheehan and Barnes combined on a 31-yard scoring pass to make the score 14-7 at the break.

The only scoring of the third quarter came when Sheehan and Barnes converted an eight-yard TD pass play to cap a 13-play, 89-yard drive.

The Falcons put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with a 21-yard field goal from Jerry Phillips, a one-yard TD run by Chris Bullock and a 64- yard interception return for a touchdown by Adrien Spencer in the final minute to give the home team a resounding 17-point triumph.

Bowling Green, which controlled the ball for more than 20 minutes in the second half, generated 389 yards of offense despite averaging a mere 1.8 yards per rushing attempt on the night.

The win for the Falcons provided new head coach Dave Clawson with his first victory at an FBS institution after leading both Fordham and Richmond where he was named national Division I-AA Coach of the Year at each school.
