  1. Rice brings their fans to New Orleans in one bus.
  2. I was at the old pit with you, but do not remember things quite the same. We had some sporadic upsets of nationally ranked teams at the pit, but overall we were average....of course, we played in the tough valley. Blakeley is the only coach to have us nationally ranked. Sure, he played a lot of soft teams, but we lead the nation in scoring and were the darlings of the media back then. No one has shown up since the valley days and Blakeley to field a consistently good team. There was the Jankovich fluke in 93-94, but we do not need flukes, we need a consistently building program. Jones is a good man and I wish him luck this season, but I do not sense that the very athletic team this year will finish any better than the past ones. I hope I am wrong.
  3. Interesting that the LSU board refers to us as North Texas, not UNT....sorry Jackson, the UNT just isn't sticking.
  4. Please tell the players that they are down by fifteen at tipoff so they will play from the opening gun. We are very athletic, but cannot spot teams 15 points right off the bat and expect to win very many games. I am not talking about Nebraska, which is obviously very good...I am talking about the UTA and Texas State-San Marcos games. We are way too lacksadasical at the beginning of games.
  5. While SMU could put more cash on the table, the future coach might just think that the potential is greater in Denton than Dallas. SMU is not pictured as the home team by most Dallasites. They do not relate to SMU. Their fan base is static and if the new coach at NT does good things he could be a real celebrity in success starved Denton.
  6. There is an assumption here that Dickey had any potential recruits coming. With the exception of the Abilene guy, who knows if anyone else was even being recruited.
  7. The reference to a sleeping giant is interesting. What some do not realize, as seen by the Goldfield donation, is that NT has been athletically challenged....put a product on the field on the national stage and 'monied alumni' will come calling.
  8. If you truly want to climb to the next level, quirky donors are all part of the process. Smile, take the check, lump it and get on with the process of elevating your programs.
  9. I have every confidence that the new offensive coordinator will find a way to use Jamario's talents. His senior year could be his best....we all hope so.
  10. There is an irony here. In 2001 Dickey almost got fired immediately after the humiliating loss to Northeast Louisiana ( I think that was their name then) and now he is getting the boot immediately after playing UL-Monroe.
  11. No, she is untouchable. Should she be fired, her 24 loyal fans would raise hell.
  12. You are not eligible to be in the Hall of Fame for ten years after you leave campus. In ten years DD will be only a lingering memory...no way would he be nominated much less attain the Hall of Fame status.
  13. I am sending Dickey a letter today, and since I doubt that he will even open it, here is what it will say: Congratulations coach, you have proven that you can lose in green and white, you can lose in all green and you can lose in all black. Oh, and by the way, I knew Johnny Cash and you ain't Johnny Cash.
  14. They warmed up in green tops and black pants, then came back for the game in all black. Classless. Hell, Dickey now thinks he's Johnny Cash and wore all black. His butt should not be allowed to follow the team to Monroe. Better yet, let Villareal tell him in no uncertain terms that the black not tolerated and let him go to Monroe....chances are he'd defy the mandate and possibly violate his contract, allowing NT to not have to pay him the remaining money.
  15. Probably no coverage....after all, it's only basketball and it inconveniences football to cover both.
  16. No true Texan ever keeps up with the likes of Ohio State or Michigan.
  17. If Glanville were to get the job, I think that Ericc Pegram would have a good shot at being the running backs coach. Erric played for Glanville with the Atlanta Falcons and has expressed an interest in coaching at NT.
  18. Point of information.....the Mean Green name was first given the defense in 1967, then it was commonly used for the whole team in 1968 and 1969 and then intermittently until the present time. Joe Greene was on campus and playing when the name Mean Green was given initially to the North Texas defense. Just think if Joe Greene's name when he came to the Steelers was 'Eagle Joe Greene.'
  19. I don't blame Strock for the team's record...he did have a 'very difficult situation' to handle day in and day out.
  20. I am shocked that they finally did the right thing. There are some other coaches lurking around NT who now should be looking over their shoulder if they do not perform.
  21. I don't know, the Fightin' Poets could be a force to be reckoned with.
  22. One of the great moments in the old Pit was when Shelby Metcalf brought the Texas A&M Aggies to town. We blitzed them and Shelby spent most of the second half with his head buried in lap as the trounce went by him. On the wall of the Pit was a sign.."Have You Ever WATCHED an Aggie Joke?'
  23. Rutgers rise to the top could be a real nightmare for the perennial big boys. Remember, Rutgers could become the media darlings and the media is located right there in the Rutgers area of NYC-NJ.
  24. While I do not know AA personally, in today's weird climate, I was thinking that we could have him say 'University of Darrell Dickey' during the intros. I am sure that he wouldn't, but who knows his feelings on the firing of Dickey.
