  1. I know this is the wrong forum for this, but, if I didn't put it in here, no one would look at it. I did some number crunching on the UNT Men's Golf Team, and it doesn't look good... -On average for 2008, the team places consistently in the 38th percentile of all of the tournamnets they played in. -On average for 2008, the team is 23 strokes behind the top team at the end of the tournament -On average for 2008, the team placed 9th out of 14 teams for all ofthe tournaments -The best finish for the team was at its own golf tournament that UNT hosted, and they got 2nd place (1stroke behind leader) Overall, the team has not done very well. I always thought that we had a pretty decent team, but, evidently not. I know we have a few good players on the team that do well most of the time, but, coming in at 9th place on average won't exactly fill up the trophy case.
  2. 07:06 AM CDT on Friday, April 11, 2008 By Randena Hulstrand / Staff Writer The University of North Texas announced Thursday that the former Radisson Hotel will close as of June 1. The university took over operation of the hotel at the start of April. DRC/Barron Ludlum The University of North Texas announced Thursday that the former Radisson Hotel will close as of June 1. UNT bought out the remaining 45 years of a lease with Denton Hotel Associates for $4.56 million, ending their agreement as of March 31. In a letter dated April 10 to the university community, UNT President Gretchen Bataille said the remaining employees of the hotel are encouraged to apply for jobs at the university. “Employees will receive a package of information about employment opportunities at the university prior to the hotel’s closure,” Bataille said in the letter. The university hired Prism Hotels and Resorts, a Dallas-based hotel property management company, on a three-month lease and did not renegotiate a continued branding contract with Radisson. RDA Hotel Management Co. operated and advised the Radisson for Denton Hotel Associates for the past four years, said Michael Gallucci, executive vice president of RDA Hotel Management. UNT owns the land the hotel sits on, and Denton Hotel Associates had been leasing the hotel since 1997. The sale transaction with UNT was a mutual agreement, Gallucci said. “We decided to list the property for sale and during that process we talked with UNT,” he said. “They were a natural buyer since they owned the land already.” The hotel had been for sale since 2007, and Gallucci said his company was in negotiations with UNT for about six months. Gallucci said Denton Hotel Associates’ decision to sell the hotel was because of a slowed economy in Denton. “The market here isn’t unusual to markets with other hotel properties,” he said. If UNT had not bought the hotel, Gallucci said Denton Hotel Associates would have sold it to someone else. While no plans for the future use have been finalized, Bataille said in the letter, “Long term, having a full-service quality hotel in proximity to UNT is important to a vibrant campus life, especially when it comes to athletic, academic and cultural events; graduations; and the employment of our students.” Gallucci said he didn’t know what future plans the university has for the hotel but anticipated UNT would eventually use the property as a dormitory or part of its hospitality management program. “I was not aware it would close,” he said.
  3. What I cant figure out is...we always seem to have on person up towards the top, but the team can't seem to make it past the middle of the pack in most of the tournaments that they play in. What gives???
  4. UNT terminates deal with Radisson Hotel 11:34 AM CDT 11:36 AM CDT on Thursday, March 27, 2008 2008 By Randena Hulstrand / Staff Writer The University of North Texas Board of Regents voted unanimously today via a teleconference meeting to terminate a lease agreement with the Radisson Hotel located at 2211 Interstate 35E. “The termination of the lease is effectively the purchase of the property,” said Alan Stucky, assistant general counsel for UNT. While the university owns the property, Denton Hotel Associates has been leasing and running the Radisson since 1998. Seven of the nine regents voted on the action, in the specially called meeting.. UNT President Gretchen Bataille would not give specific details of the university’s plans for the property, but said “it will be complimentary to our other plans to develop the athletic facilities and the Murchison [Performing Arts Center],” Terminating the lease gives the university more control to ensure the usage is consistent with their long-term plans, she said.
  5. right now there are flights to Cancun on worry free vacations website for $178 round trip...no gimmicks, no games, just cheap airfare. Get a hotel in playa del carmen. There are good beaches there and its cheap to go all-inclusive. You can get package deals on worry free that include everything (taxi to/from airport) and all meals, drinks, etc. You can fly to cancun cheaper than you can fly to any US beach, it's cheaper, quicker, and just plain better. Hope this helps.
  6. I have been thinking of something similar lateley.. the question is.. Is it better to get a big paycheck and destroy the morale of your team, or play teams that you have a chance of beating and build fan base? Do we really need the money that bad? Does it really help us out overall when we open up at home 0-2? I am sure that there are more resons for playing OU and UT that I am not aware of.
  7. I think it would be a good idea to allow Vizza to continue to start, but work Riley in for college experience after a year of redshirt, that way when Vizza is a senior, we still have 2 years of Riley left.
  8. Did anyone else notice that the article: 1. Makes no mention of his time here at UNT 2. Half of the article focuses on his father's accomplishments 3 They credit Dickey for the turnaround of the "Blue Hose"
  9. Ok...pardon my ignorance..but everyone keeps saying that we are #9 in this poll ar that poll. But when I click on it, it says that we are #19...What am I missing??
  10. I agree with this.. 3 years ago when we were winning games, the alumni side was going nuts. Most of the excitement now takes place on the BEK Deck. I think once we start having more success on the field (wins) I think you will see excitement in the stands.
  11. Isn't is odd how none of those photos show UNT in a very good position?
  12. I wouldn't say that just yet... NO matter what kind of year either teams are having, it seems like ULaLa, ULM, and Ark St. ALWAYS play us close.
  13. I think one of the most significant points about this game has to be Josh White shooting 28points against one of the best players in the entire nation (Augustin) Quoner, please don't rain on my Utopian parade, thanks.
