  1. The good news--the NIT would love to have a team out of this market. The bad news--with our attendance figures we couldn't host a UIL game. Thank for all the innovative moves that had them beating down the doors to get into the Super Pit. There is nothing that gets the blood moving like a good hamburger pig out at halftime. From the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the Kilgore Rangerettes, the Bud Light Daredevils to a halftime hamburger barf. Nice job.
  2. Craig Miller had an attitude problem when I was around him while he was at NT and apparently still does. If we want to be included in the Big 12 lovefest, let's beat OU...then there should be a good deal more interest.
  3. For us to really attract the kind of Division one talent for football, we need to have a real Division One basketball program. How impressive is it for recruits to visit the Super Pit during football recruiting and see 1,000 people watching JJ's team struggling to polish off the mighty University of New Orleans (or others)? Of course, it could be worse, he could bring the recruits to the early game when the women will be roaming aimlessly around the court trying to hang in with one of women's basketball's bottom feeders in front of 200 fans. When we had Hayden Fry and Bill Blakeley, they often mentioned that each team's success helped the other team's recruiting. Villareal needs to admit that he knows little about basketball and defer to someone to bring in some real coaches for the basketball teams.
  4. You never get good coaches by the 'buddy system.'
  5. While we are talking about uniform colors again, if I was athletic director, I would use the kelly and white with black accents. Also, I would use the Hayden Fry green and the Helwig dark green as accents colors. By using all the greens we are honoring all the players who played in all eras.
  6. Right on, right on. I do not think that mediocrity in basketball is part of Batille's dream for North Texas. She wants national attention and knows that athletics is a good way to get it.
  7. Black uniforms are appropriate at this time of the year for the men's and women's teams as they mourn the passing of their seasons and their relegation to basketball pergatory in March.
  8. Are the Dixie Chicks sorta like the fightin' Irish or the Thundering Herd or the Crimson Tide? I thought this board was for sports, not politics.
  9. Keith 7, get ready for some serious crap from the trackster. Monroe is a sinister place, and it will be real tough....believe me, I hope I am wrong. I think they still play on the rubber floor there, too.
  10. Back to the 1967 game vs. A&M in the old pit, we ran the aggies out of the place. The late Shelby Metcalf was the coach of the aggies and spent most of the evening with his head in his lap, looking down at the floor. I did a sign for that game that proved profetic....Have You Ever WATCHED An Aggie Joke?
  11. If you think Thursday night was bad, wait until Monroe gets ahold of us on Saturday. It's a very evil place to visit for numerous reasons.
  12. What ever happened to Flanigan? Anyone know?
  13. Did Todd recruit a guy named Lewis, or did he recruit an entire high school? That was a very confusing article.
  14. You're right, Rick, but sadly it will never happen. After all, it's only basketball.
  15. While I strongly support the dismissal of Darrell Dickey, I must ask the question as to why the basketball coaches are not held to the same standard. The Slinker situation is laughingly sad and should be rectified at the end of the season. Jones needs to understand that he is also under extreme scrutiny. There needs to be three engines of the athletic engine....football, men's basketball and women's basketball. To not give the student body a quality product in these three sports is inexcusable. Product, product, product....that is what it is all about. The fans deserve better from the basketball programs. If we took basketball seriously, we would have much better student and alumni support. Just killing time between football seasons just won't get it done in 2007...maybe it was Ok in 1945, but not now.
  16. Hey, TastyGreek, it's only basketball. The athletic department does precious little for basketball. If they cared enough to exert the effort they could have some highlights on TV.
  17. Time for the ultimate two point shot....Slinker and Jones to the door.
  18. You are correct. I have fought this war since 1984. While at the athletic department I preached this, but no one seemed to listen. The situation in men's basketball is pitiful with little interest in upgrading....women's basketball is even more pitiful. Why turn on the lights in the SuperPit for 300 people to watch a women's game? Good luck seeing things change anytime soon. As the new president assesses the situations at NT, maybe she will ask the right questions relative to basketball.
  19. A friend of mine was considering buying Dickey's house in Denton until he realized that he ran the risk of becoming depressed over the tough situation he might have at the house. I am told that Diet Coke boy does the lawn over there.
  20. See what can happen when you have dedicated, smart, and innovative coaches.
  21. So, Vito, how much do you donate to the athletic program....you know, the one that gives you a job.
  22. How many games do you think we will have televised due to Dodge's reputation in the '07 season?
  23. I caught some of the last of it, and being born in Pampa, it was fun to see things about the town I never knew. We moved away when I was just a small child. My parents always liked Pampa. Trivia Question: What former NT football coach started by coaching Pampa? Yep, Odus Mitchell.
  24. I know that a lot of us have really given the university a hard time about its logo and color quests, but the new son of worm really holds its own in the lineup of other Texas athletic logos.
  25. Seems like the 'young' belt is doing very nicely...now for the coup de grace tonight when the Blue Raiders knock off Central Michigan.
