  1. A few thoughts: 1. SMU defense IS much improved. They stalled us out early but were on the field ALL NIGHT cause their offense was so bad. 2. TCU will run away with this - storm delays are weird for teams. 3. Neither of those things take away from how good I think we are right now. Last Saturday was the most mature win I’ve seen since I got to Denton in 05. I hope we stay that focused this week against someone we have no business losing to. Handle business and get on to Fayetteville where we should do the same and act like it’s no big deal and move on to the next week.
  2. Tech in my opinion has lost it's luster because offensively, other schools have caught up. In the early 00's Tech was shiny and new between the Air Raid and their uniform contract. It was easy to attract kids out there. Now, the Air Raid is a commodity offense and every team has unique uniform combos, etc. So, Lubbock goes back to being Lubbock and Lubbock is a damn hard sale. I DO believe Seth takes the Tech Job if offered because it'd be good money...but it's not as much of a given as it once was for me....it's hard to win consistently out there and you'd have to plan on losing your job at some point. Plus, if you're Tech and Coach Bro couldn't get it done....why would you take another risk on a young Air Raid coach? Seems to go against logic. That said, after week 1 we have the most efficient team in the country when all three phases are considered so obviously anyone would have to have a lot of confidence in SL. **I didnt read the whole 7 pages o this thread so if these points were already made, shoot me.
  3. That was a great hint as to what was to come with that team. We out physicialed a team that was a well respected G5 for quite some time. Also showed what can happen if we take advantage of the Texas heat in September if we schedule smart. That was a big one.
  4. When I was a student/early alumni, Oklahoma St and Tech wins in the Super Pit were great. Since then, The Stand and The Drive both stick out. The road wins in Ruston have been good too. As frustrated as I wound up with Dan though, I’ve never had a greater feeling of relief and happiness than the uber ride back from the Cotton Bowl on 1/1/14. That was a gigantic weight off the shoulders and I’ve been a lot happier person ever since.
  5. Sure was...I’d been texting with friends of other schools this morning before the game and they had gotten wind he was that way too so at least it’s not just us who think that. A friend said this today and I thought it was very true...officials are so hesitant to throw flags on these kids....whether it is unnecessary roughness or holding (seems like they hold every play and never get called)...I can only assume that is because of the unique assumptions of discipline and judgement made about the young men on those teams (which are largely fair assumptions). I am glad we have limited the series with them...it’s a no win situation. God bless our troops and those who are sharp enough to attend the academies, but I’d rather play civilians from here on out.
  6. They weren’t taking any of those picks seriously, which is fine...we will have to earn all that. If our program just keeps its nose to the grindstone and winning games it’ll get noticed eventually. I don’t think that particular piece of tv had much sway with recruits one way or another.
  7. No way - they’ll reload as they’ve had to the past 15 yrs.
  8. You’re probably not on this message board to “make friends” but you really don’t do yourself any favors with this kind of condescending crap
  9. The dollar amount is insane but I DO like the idea of tailoring the student section with concessions and amentities within their budget and in ways that would attract them out. We have to grab these kids attention so they’ll be loyal program contributors for years to come and that’s a great way to do it. (But it damn sure don’t take $250M to achieve)
  10. I know the D didn’t give up many points but a lot of that was Rice just being a bad unit. Our defense doesn’t impose a thing right now. We catch blocks and our run force is super soft. FAU will run the ball down our throats if we don’t get more physical..which at this point in the yr is a silly idea. We are a 9 win team so I’m very proud but it has been in spite of a LOT of defensive issues.
  11. In a certain string of Wing T teams (e.g. Permian and Temple during my time) The numerals are based on the play calls..e.g...18 sweep for tailbacks (they wear teens), 38 sweep for fullbacks (they wear thirties), 43 counter for wingbacks (they wore 40s) and the varieties of qb plays were 20s (qbs alternated wearing 20 and 25). Centers wore 50s, guards wore 60s and tackles wore 70s. Very old school and fun.
  12. Anybody trust any of these streams? https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+watch+north+texas+rogers+state&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
  13. Very well thought out and scary. I hate that the game has peaked in terms of upward opportunity for g5 schools. I had a long conversation about that this weekend and one thought that was thrown out there was shifting to a relegation model for P5 level treatment. Lots of obstacles and issues I see with that but fun to think about.
  14. Hahah I appreciate the vulnerability After watching they way some of those kids play I’d not be surprised if we were that kind of out STD’d
  15. Nice write up. I was upset about the timing of BV’s article too but not too mad at him for it. Part of his job to convey current situations to the readers of DRC (of which only a certain, small percentage are invested in our program). I’ve visited with him and believe he is a guy that roots for the MG (after all it behooves him for us to be good) and found him to be a pretty positive person...However, that was poor timing and there wasn’t much meat on the bone to the article (eg What schools make sense for SL? I’d throw Tennessee in the mix but don’t think that’d happen). I believe, as many of you do, that SL still has plenty to prove to AD’s around the country who can present a better offer...but what a great problem to have!!! Especially considering we have an AD who has the energy and priorities to make it work if it can. My opinion is that Seth stays this yr at least and if anyone hires GH (though he’s proven a lot this yr) as head coach they’re an idiot.
  16. I don’t disagree but it’s just time for another flavor for us as much as I like the easy trip to dallas. It’s time to get out there in the rest of the world of bowls it feels like. I really don’t have a sound argument for why that’s a good thing other than MAYBE some extra exposure and a fresh vibe for the kids. NO, Independence and even New Mexico sound better to be than HoD unless there is a P5 opponent.
  17. It was fun seeing Riley beat Ball St. on MACtion...if only I could go back and prepare my heart for what was to follow.
  18. Yeah MAC’s approach is interesting to me. Although I’m grateful cause it gives me football to watch during the week...even though in most cases it’s bad football. I am scared to think what our Tues/Thurs night crowds would be like this yr until more student support is there. The Halloween Rice game in 13 was a weeknight and the crowd was pretty good, but I always wonder if it had been a Saturday how much better it could’ve been.
  19. Are we thinking that is bandaid to an upcoming new basketball arena based on this report though I get it, still exciting to see included
  20. This is exciting stuff!!! I prefer a facelift to the Pit. Especially since it is basketball, walkability from the dorms to the arena is a big deal for attendance on those weeknight games. I love our athletic facility progress but i hate that they and our beuatiful campus are cut right in two by the busiest thoroughfare in the Western Hemisphere. The bridge was such an important creation but it’s still a hell of a walk from Kerr or Welch/Maple St. houses. Also....BASEBALL!
  21. You’re missing his point...his model is, show up to the gate on gameday and show the guy at the gate your student ID card, they scan the card at the gate and you’re in...very simple process that seems to be the perfect way to do it. Do you do this stuff on purpose? I have to believe he is doing a bit
