What Southern Miss Fans Are Saying About UNT
tmjerm replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Don’t worry about that guy Austin -
I used it for fun on a thread awhile back and someone (maybe you) got razzled about it then too. Brought me joy. Looking forward to seeing what kit we wear vs UTSA.

Absolutely beautiful! And as many have said we need to make sure we use it as a recruiting advantage that we broke the color barrier. Proud to be Mean Green!
-
Our worst kit by far. If we wear the green pants we should wear green lids. Southern Miss’ throwbacks looks so hawt. Good for them. Let’s beat dat ass though.

Is recommend reading The Perfect Pass by SC Gwynne about the birth of the Air Raid offense...such a great read and so many ties to our team. Will make you watch the offense in a totally different way.

I always accidentally called him Isladore on account of his first name so at least I won’t have to worry about that anymore.

12 in scoring defense, 13 in pass defense and 8 in total defense :(

I felt like that was much more execution than play calling (not saying that’s what you’re implying)...we were in positions to score but the fumble and stalling out inside the 30 and settling for field goals was more on the players. We have to turn those opportunities into touchdowns as the season goes on. That said, the story of the second half let down is all secondary...why we are pressing when they HAVE to air it out to get back into the game with little to know safety help I’ll never understand. We were out of position on every play...Jenkins did a great job coming in. Really worried about both players and coaches in the backend...why were we not letting everything happen in front of us? If we had to play man to get the pass rush we want that’s fine, but at least leave a safety or play soft coverage. Not every DB is Deion Sanders.

Nice write up! PS The UTSA game is 3 weeks but with the bye I get it

This part will be hard to accomplish but I’m glad we got through our p5 game with him still standing. Mason gets the ball out so fast...quick decision making, dart throws...really protected the football so well last night and threw it away when he needed to...getting so much better about not taking silly sacks...tough as nails. He’s one of my favorite players to watch in my time as an NT fan. He’s got just a couple cons (height has at times created throwing issues when under pressure - and his frame will wear down over time if not protected) compared to so many strengths. And we still have him for 2.5 more seasons!

Fear not, friend.

The article isn't about who has kicked our ass every year.... At any rate, not arguing that they're not the best in our league...but if they are that's discouraging for our league. Not sold on those guys down there yet. The BU win doesn't mean a whole lot to me. We shall see.

UTSA sure gets a lot of praise there

I am happy to still hold it near for a while longer. Lots of memories in that pile of concrete.

I like it

Completely agree with your post...thread title, mostly. It's VERY diassapointing that so much of what contributed to the L was within our control...yet at the same time encouraging. We learned we have enough talent to go toe to toe with p5s...mental errors are correctable, talent is not. That said we have to get that shit fixed ASAP. Preston made me break things in my living room and we look like we need to make an immediate change at the special teams helm.

I'm all about it!! Love that look.

Pitt looked glorious

Seth and Graham have a long way to go as coaches...they got out coached and I fully expect them to learn from that. You don't become a good in game manager and game planner over night or even over a year. They're competitors. They will keep grinding and will improve. Still a believer in the staff.
-
Guys this is a large project...we are BAD. Not only are we recruiting against SMU, we are recruiting against every school in the nation because DFW is so fertile. We have historically peed on athletic investment. Seth and Graham should be held accountable for a bad night but they have a TON to overcome because of our history. I'm at a loss to explain the play calling but my best guess is Graham feels we are too weak still to strike. They didn't do great recruiting the first yr but they will figure it out. We have no money and these guys are as good as we can do and I personally think that's a pretty good buy! Give them time.

Agree ^

Dude I feel your pain but Wren and Seth aren't losers. Our culture is losery and fan base has all the issues you pointed to I agree....and this was a poor coaching performance...but these dudes are for real. They have a lot to over come because of the very culture you're talking about...why don't we have money? Because we don't win...why don't we win? Because we don't have money...chicken or the egg? It's a shit sandwich...but if there's anyone to clean up our sandwich at what we can afford I DO believe in both Seth and Wren. Tonight sucked but we knew going in that the Ponies were a lot farther along than us. I'm no blind follower but I believe in this crew. Give them a bit of time.
