  1. omg, this season can't start quickly enough.... Can't wait to see what happens... second guessing the coaching staff when we have no information(or only what is released by mac) is awfully funny, but atleast everybody cares enough to do it. I am soooo happy that I actually get to tailgate this coming saturday as I have no coaching obligations yet for the fall. It kind of sux that it will be 100, but I'm a texan. I'm sure I'll compensate with lots of barley and hops to stay hydrated! I think that by withholding all this info and keeping us guessing, it has worked as a decent buzz for what in the world we should expect to see. It will be like Christmas morning at QB. Yes, we know DT will be starting. If he is on, then we'll see more of him and be happy. If he is not, then we get to open another Christmas gift and see what happens. Good, bad, whatever... We won't necessarily be happy if things are bad, but atleast we get to see something a little bit different. We'll see Saturday night! GMG!!!!!!!! For the love of god, kick the freaking ball off already!!!!!!!!!
  2. I too was interested in getting the fastest players on the team to return kicks... Chancellor has done pretty well. I'm simply concerned about putting him back there on punts cause he never seems to catch the punt...and I don't like him on kick returns cause I feel like that is the most violent part of the game. We need that young man contributing on offense. But, then again, if he's the best at it, run him out there. So, yes, I just contradicted myself. One aspect of our special teams that has been maddening for the past couple years is the blocked kick. Take the Kansas State game last year. We drive all the way down the field in the 3rd quarter to get the game tieing touchdown, and the extra point was blocked. Also, I believe we had atleast one field goal blocked in the first half. It is just deflating... On the flip side, how many times have we blocked kicks in recent years? Also, blocking a punt is a huge game changer. I can remember blocking the punt in the SMU home game with good ole Dickey... I know we may have blocked one more somewhat recently. Can't think if it right now.
  3. I will never forget THE Middle Tennessee Game when it was raining cats and dogs, and Lance was out of his mind...I just wish he hadn't had concussion issues his senior year. I wonder what his final tally would have been then... Great move and quite a burst from Lance. It was just an extension of what we all saw...He was almost the lone bright spot in 4 years of pretty dismal football. He'll have the ball secured going forward. I have always been a Cowboys fan since I'm a Dallas/Ft Worth lifer, but I have never paid one bit of attention to these scrimmages until Lance started fighting for a roster spot last year. Can't wait to see him contribute this year! It really is almost like getting 2 UNT games a week this year for me. Ok, that may be a stretch, but it certain adds a bunch of excitement for me.
  4. So, if he was named starter, it must have been for a reason. He earned it, and that means it is time to get behind our qb. Way to earn the job Derek! Now, lets do something we haven't seen for 8 years.... Finish bowl eligible.... I am dieing for a trip to a bowl game in December or January! Go mean green!
  5. might I recommend the ignore function rather than a useless back and forth? just my 2 cents... gmg
  6. its hard to give credit with second hand accounts only... If the D puts up a good play, was it a breakdown by the O or was it a good play by the D? and vice versa.... We will see. I have confidence that mac is working these guys and the intensity has been increased since his arrival. We'll see Aug 31st. Can't Wait! GMG!
  7. We have nothing to go on but generica coach speak americana... Its fun. We are all very very excited to gets us some football... FFR, I'd love to go up and watch some practice too... if I didn't have a full time job and and wife and 3 kids... I bet you could sneak around and watch from a distance if you really wanted to and invested in some binoculars.... at this point, all I have is vito vids and blog entries... Last couple of years has left us all wanting more... the troy game and the western ky games come to mind that work against DT. 4 and 8. I really hope that IF....and that is a ginmormous IF... we ended up with .500(my prediction by the way...with no justification other than I am just tired of expecting and seeing less) we need to give some praise to DT since we seem to be putting most of the blame on him... I'm not saying he is not atleast partially responsible in any way...but man, he was both good and bad at times last season. Of course, all our rooting and wishing for BB or DW or DT or even AM(aka mini-mac) is all silliness... as much as it sounds silly, I totally trust mac and chico at this point. Well, what other choice do we have at this point? I bought my season tickets, and I can't wait to tailgate and see me some mean green football...Lets just hope that it is a bit meaner than in the recent past. I am personally rooting for whomever wins all the starting jobs... Can't Wait! Go Positionional Comptetition! Go Depth! Go GMG!!!!!! Aug 31st can't get here quickly enough.
  8. I looked it up on the online dtv guide to record it. the description says from 2011... hmmmmmmmm
  9. How to step on a stupid frog troll... Ignore function. The end.
  10. So, tell me again who is considered the Harvard of the southwest? Welcome aboard big Chris! Multiple offers...I like it... while he is pulling around to lead block for a screen pass, he's calculating how much force is being applied to truck some poor safety...springing the jimmy show for yet another 85 yard td catch and run!
  11. Not a bad writeup. I think the Mean Green Writeup is pretty spot on... the only update is that Abbe is playing from day one...just not on scholly anymore for his senior year. Suspension is over, and thank god. He's physically the most complete DT that we've got. The other guys at DT are somewhat undersized or have far less experienced. This is the most "wait and see" season that we have had since I've been a fan(my memory goes back to yesterday... tailgating takes its toll on the memory). I have been beaten down by the last 8 years or so so badly that I can't really muster up any kind of real optimism. But, yet, I have more faith in Mac than I have at any point since we lost to memphis in New Orleans. I'm so conflicted. The elements that I feel we are missing from our team now that we had back then are all on the d-line. If those guys can hold up and make some plays this season... I really do think we can do well... Contrary to what everybody says about our offense, I LOVE the mean green pounding the ball with the Oline. I love controlling the clock and imposing our will on an opposing defense. That to me is the very cliche "BIG BOY FOOTBALL", and I love that cliche if it describes my team. It reduces the need to rely on Thompson regularly. If Thompson is having an "on" day, ride him. I went back and watched that Kansas State game again(cause I still had that game on DVR), and that first half, Thompson was on. He filled in the gaps perfectly in that first half between all those positive gain plays from the running game. K-state was sitting back in a defensive shell, but Thompson was accurate and the receivers were all making plays. Unfortunately, 2 of those biggest guys in that game are now gone...Power and Delgado. The Oline and running backs did an amazing job in this game and for a lot of the season. Controlling the clock and the ball also keeps these fast paced offenses off the field and helps disrupt their rhythem. Not always, but it helps. That's how we hung with K-state, that's how we hung with Houston for a half 2 years ago... Its how we CAN be successful. The only parts that are changing out for our offense(non receivers and tight ends) are center and brown is replaced by pegram. I can't wait to see first hand and on TV this season. I love football season. We only have 27 days... or so. It is almost here. I don't want to hear any "news" other than new recruit commits. No news will be great news through fall camp. Whatever happens with the depth charts will happen. People step up, or they fall behind. I just don't want to read or hear the "i" word. That's it. This edition of the mean green has to be the biggest unknown I can remember with lots of returning players in key positions, several transfers, and a brand new league. Go Mean Green!
  12. I really hope it is la tech, but I FEAR it will end up being utsa.
  13. Here we go again..... Meh. They become a topic for discussion next season... Right now they are so meh it is hard to get it across effectively on a message board... It nearly drained all my life force reading another one of these threads...
  14. Honestly, it comes down to something simple for me. If Mac turns things around and we start having some winning seasons, attendance and then recruiting will improve. If not, we'll get somebody else in here and we'll start over. I personally really like Mac. I've had the pleasure of whipping his ars with questions a couple times, and he was charismatic, engaging, and exuded a fire that I found to be quite intoxicating. I like the guy and really really hope he will be the one to turn this program around. We will see. So far, recruiting has been really bad compared to my expectations. I would expect our recruiting niche to be beating schools in the belt, beating about half the schools of cusa, and beating some of the auto-q schools when kids are borderliners... So far, I really have been disappointed. I have to admit that I get beaten by Mr. Vito's mentioning when some kids holding UNT offers go elsewhere... I guess I really can't blame him for mentioning it, cause what else is he going to write about these days? We have excelled at transfers, which is the one thing that I think will elevate our record this year. Through a winning record and a mostly full stadium, I could see Mac's level of recruit improving... I predict this year will make or break the Mac era. Win, and things change for the better. If we spend another season in purgatory, we will be hitting the reset button very shortly.
  15. Meh.... It is the offseason. Fall camp starts soon. Who da ho? No, I da ho. Go mean green. Forget all the rest, unless we are playing them. Let the trolls troll. The interweb provides them with a way to stir the pot from their mother's basement(even though we don't have basements around here). In summation, meh. Thank you and see you at the Apogee. Go mean green.
  16. They have been doing this for years. If we were a part of the elite, we would likely do the same thing.
  17. I am sorry for picking on this post.... But here we go. Not everythIng in this world is the best or the worst.... Their stadium was nice. Style was unique, matched the building style on campus..... Wasn't very big. But, so what... It was kind of a neat stadium that fits their needs. The word sucked never entered my mind when visiting Tulsa.... Except the score. This drives me nuts...especially when others apply this commentary towards our stadium....because it only holds 31k or so....
  18. If it weren't for the horrible showing by the football team last year, our trip to Tulsa would have been epic. 2 days of golf, staying at the hardrock casino... 'twas a blast anyway... At least we had Texas rangers updates to occupy us during the dibocle in tulsa. Btw, tulsa's campus and stadium were nice.... Enjoyed the walk thru campus...
  19. Could it be? A dt committed to the mean green? Welcome to the mean green family. Oh happy day. I am back from self enforced vacation from gmg.com. I decided I wouldn't post until I was positive again about the mean green after the basketball disappointment. A dt commit is just that...positive...especially combined with a de commit...
