  1. All we are seeing with Greer is we brought another guy into the mix to compete. It is going to be very interesting... I will be up in Denton to check out spring ball as much as I can. This will be fun. Whomever wins the job, just like this past fall, wil be our best option. Different players have different strengths. Brock and Dajon's arms and wheels are intriguing. Frankly, I see mcnulty as a very solid athlete also. I know nothing about Greer and means. This will be fun, and hopefully I will be able to check out some practice. I am sure all of us will have some opinions along the way, but I trust Mac and Chico to choose the best man for the job, regardless of who it ends up being.
  2. So, we have arguably the best DT in the history of the game associated with our school, and our head coach specializes in defensive line. And here we are, we have 2 recruits set for the d line? I suppose some linebackers could "bulk up" and move to DE, but I know I am not the only one that is concerned about not pulling 2 or 3 DTs every year... much less 2 or 3 DEs in addition I wonder what we would have to do to get this done. I think we will be "ok" next year with our current roster of defensive linemen. I was just hopeful that when Mac came in, he'd come in and install a solid offensive line(check) and run game....and a monsterous pipeline of ars kicking, skull crushing defensive linemen... I think our defensive line this past year was a pleasant surprise, but our 4 starters are graduating after the Heart of Dallas bowl. I would also like to state, for the record, that I really do like this recruiting class. The list of offers and especially the potential for this set of playmakers seem to be a step up from previous years....and really, I do trust that wintrich and the rest of the staff will be able to develop these young men into a solid, well fitting team. I will continue to see games in person and enjoy supporting the program. This just continues to bother me that we don't have more volume in terms of defensive line numbers... We'll see I guess. I still think we should hire mean joe as some sort of recruiting coordinator, have him wear all his superbowl rings(on the same hand) and have him sitting in every highly rated defensive linemen's living room talking to these young men. Current verbals on the dline(2) plus several 3 LBs.... 1 of which looks like a potential fit, size-wise, to double as a DE? 1). DE - Johnavhon Grahm (6-1, 250) DeSoto, Texas (DeSoto HS) [May 23, 2013] 2). DT - Shaquel Jackson (6-1, 285) DeSoto, Texas (Desoto HS) [May 27, 2013] 3). LB Anthony Wallace (6-0, 235) Dallas, Texas (Oregon/Skyline HS) [May 29, 2013] - LB only? double as a DE? I don't think so...but we'll see 7). LB - Brandon Garner (5-11, 200) Mansfield, Texas (Timberview HS) [July 31, 2013] - LB only? double as a DE? I don't think so...but we'll see 17). LB - Akii "AJ" Smith, (6-2, 225) Miami, Oklahoma (NE Oklahoma A&M College / Stilwell HS) - LB only? double as a DE? potential to play some DE? [signed December 16, 2013]
  3. Brian futrell and I normally have a group of about 8 or 9. We bought 21 tickets total so far. We shall see if we have more requests to join our group. I guess our cutoff to sit together is the 18th? I can't wait.
  4. Well, when you have been as bad as we have for the last DECADE, this is what national blowhards will say. Just enjoy our alma mater playing on New Year's Day and keep supporting. Credibility takes time. Get mac's contract done, keep on investing in the product, and increase our attendance numbers. National blowhards like this guy will only like the best of the best. Just like the rest of America, they see great and suck. No in between.... I am f'ing pumped. My group of 21 will be there, ready to go.
  5. I have always thought an indoor practice facility should come before baseball.
  6. Serious question, what number would make us all proud? is it 25k? 30k? What number would make us feel good about things? and what number would get respect from other programs? is that number like 40k? I think we will bring 25k to this game. in that stadium, it will not look very good.
  7. I debated this one within my own brain pan as well. I think them giving baylor a really really good game helps solidify them. I think I am more ok with this than smu's position in this thing all year long. if I were to match up smu and utsa, I'd pick utsa by 10 points.
  8. smu should be ranked above utep and texas state only. they are not good. The cold weather was the great equalizer for that game last saturday.
  9. I got all hot and bothered about Michigan or Iowa. I admit that this was a bit of a let down. But going from a 12 to a 9.5 isn't that bad. My father and I will be joining a decent sized party of my usual tailgating comerades at the game. I'm sure we will manage to have fun...although, I've been told that I get in a very grumpy mood when the team isn't playing well.... like in the utsa, tulane, and ohio u. I get a great giggle in each of the ticket tickers today when Rich Phillips(voice of smu athletics) says yet again that UNT will be playing new years day and everybody else in the metroplex area is sitting at home watching...playing with their small privates.... I will enjoy this. It will be fun. I recommend that all of you get over the carrots that were dangled in front of us and get some perspective(if you are one of the angry ones). I know I'm over it. smile, we are bowling on new years freaking day. go mean green
  10. Matches 2 of the most evil things on the sports planet... Notre hype and the bankees... A match made in hell.
  11. I want sec fans to cry. I would love to have UNT face Michigan. That is the perfect opponent for UNT here in Dallas. Whatever happens at that point, happens....
  12. Showmanship != 1950's band uniforms Or <> Just to inject some computer geek humor into this freaking tired band "pageantry" garbage.
  13. Playing Michigan in Dallas would be the best case scenario for us. There is a tie into our last bowl victory.... That year, Ohio state was on the brink of being beaten by Cincinnati.... And they ended up winning that game and then the national championship. Well, now Michigan took Ohio state to the very end only to see The buckeyes win in the end... Now Ohio state has a spot in the national championship game(if they don't poop the bed)... I would love for UNT to play a demoralized Michigan team in our neck of the woods. Not saying I am confident of a victory over Michigan, but I do think we could hang tough with a middle of the road big 10 team this year. Plus, and of course least importantly, we are 1 and 0 against the big 10.... Unless I have missed a long history with that conference...
  14. This is exactly what I sent to my wife when I saw heard this on the ticket ticker.... Wife scolded me, but I am pretty sure it is justified.... I didn't abbrev it though.... That sux. Wonder if his recovery time would allow for a return for the playoffs.... I am totally ignorant when it comes to recovery and surgery and athletes... What an f'ing bummer...
  15. This is beyond weak. This was real football weather. Cold, no rain. It was nearly perfect. Good luck getting the fans to come back next season? if it is cold? The western ky game a few years ago...ok, I'd give you that one. I only stayed through half time on that one. it was miserable. But last saturday? just because it is cold? Come on. Maybe we don't deserve a good football team. I sincerely hope that other people don't share this opinion...
  16. Have we not see that the obvious value is in development and coaching over the last year alone. The system is in place... Bring in kids with work ethic and potential, redshirt them, and then develop develop develop. Stars on signing day sell the sizzle. The work year round is the steak baby. I won't lie. The second I see us sign more stars, I will get excited. However, I also have faith that the kids coming in will fit together and build the whole puzzle.
  17. What we did(mostly the students) on Halloween was pretty awesome... For us. My wife, 3 year old, and 6 year old came out... And a couple of buddies came out. Overall, we should be proud of the showing during the week on a holiday. Sign of good things happening... And hopefully good things to come.
  18. Anytime somebody makes bold absolute claims like this...you run the risk of looking like a fool. Baylor is nothing more than a doormat... Never gonna be anything more than that... Boise state can never compete with the big boys... Things change in cycles. Great programs go through bad times, mediocre programs have great years, bottom dwellers rise from the ashes and shock the world. You never know what will happen. Just keep on supporting our alma mater. If the support is there, our chances are much much better to raise our level of success overall, and years like this one may not end up being a flash in the pan. This could be the beginning of something special like Mac has said. Our potential is there because of our numbers. We just have to make our alums notice. "Never" "always" etc.... The words of fools. Lets just appreciate what we have gotten to see this year without arrogance, and don't let any outside noise ruin our fun. Spread the good word amongst our alumni and maybe one day we can throw these absolute statements back in Tim's face... You know, in a nice way... Go mean green
  19. we tu lo hol e fuk bang den ow poo pe pants? yuck... but then then again, if I saw number 27 headed straight for me, I might lose control of myself as well...
  20. I normally love recruiting info... but right now, just riding the wave of the here and now is too much fun. I hope this translates into new recruiting heights, but guys coming in hungry and buying into the mac way seems to be a good formula at the moment(atleast with predominantly dodge recruits thus far leading the way). We'll see, but I honestly am not worried about it at all at this point. Next step, UTEP.
  21. Dr nick williams was my RA in Kerr hall in 1996. I get a kick out of seeing him at basketball and football games... Oh the stupid memories of foolishness in the dorms... And getting a talking to by dr nick Williams... A couple of times.
  22. The DMN has had the pony knee pads on all season. Their wins are over programs that are amongst the worst in college football. and Barely at that. Its utep and then the ponies for the bottom. I don't like the fact that utsa is this good, but they are. I would pick utsa over smu no question. I admittedly don't know too much about texas state. So, maybe I couldn't say if smu were worse than them... but I have seen several smu games and atleast 3 utsa games. To me, there is no comparison. I don't think there is any question Rice is better than SMU as well. This poll has been a joke from the beginning of the season. UNT just needs to play to their potential for the remainder of this season. The dallas morning news writers will all wake up. Just because smu left cusa doesn't mean they are automatically better than everybody in the old conference. Watch the freaking games... "sports writers"... I am looking forward to Houston beating smu by 50 in a couple weeks...
  23. I sold the wife on bringing our 3 and 6 year olds. It was oversold, however, atleast it was something. Kids got to knock their father out jousting... Got to win stuff and got the right amount of candy instead of having a giant bag full... Think there could have been more activities for the kids, but, my kids didn't seem to notice... They had fun.
