Former Hazlehurst Indian stadout signs with Middle Tennessee State

Middle Tennessee Head Football Coach Rick Stockstill announced today the signing of Wide Receiver Chris Perkins to a scholarship agreement.


Perkins 6’6”, 215, played last season at Pearl River Community College where he hauled in 19 passes for 318 yards and 5 touchdowns while missing 3 games due to a high ankle sprain. The Hazlehurst native originally signed with Alcorn State coming out of high school and as a true freshman hauled in 7 receptions for 127 yards.

Perkins, who redshirted in 2011, was rated as one of the Top 125 players in the state of Mississippi by the Clarion-Ledger coming out of Hazlehurst High School.

“Chris is a big, strong, physical receiver who should have an immediate impact on our offense”, said Justin Watts, MTSU receivers coach. “We look forward to having him here in January so he can go through our offseason workouts and spring practice.”

Chris garnered attention from over a dozen Division 1 colleges to include Mississippi State, Louisiana Lafayette, Troy University, North Texas, Arkansas State, Southeast Louisiana, Texas Southern, Grambling University and Alcorn State.

      SB at Charlotte (5/3-5/24)

      It all comes down to this. The softball ladies are a game behind FAU and Charlotte for first place in the conference. The Mean Green already own the tiebreaker 2-1 with FAU, so winning two of three in Charlotte this weekend would also be huge in that it would give the ladies the tiebreaker over both teams in case there is a three-way tie at 19-8. The biggest reason to try to take two of three in Charlotte is that second and third place in the conference is the difference between having to win just two games in two days to make it to the NCAA Tournament, or four games in four days. We can't finish lower than third. Fourth place Tulsa is 3 games behind UNT, and we swept them earlier in the year. Tulsa plays at FAU this weekend. Charlotte will be a tough out. Last year by way of playing one fewer conference game due to a rainout, they finished with one loss fewer than UNT and won the regular season title. However, we took two of three at home to the 49ers before beating them again in the conference tournament. They still made it to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large. This year, Charlotte has taken 2 of 3 at USF and vs. Wichita State while sweeping the likes of UAB and Tulsa, and are on an 11-game win streak overall. Standings going into the final weekend. The conference tournament is May 8-11 in Wichita. If we make it to the final on Saturday at 11 am, be prepared to drop everything and head up to Kansas to support! SCHOOL CONF CPCT. OVERALL PCT.       Dog shit excuse. It has nothing to do with anything. It's one of the same several excuses used in an attempt to put a curtain up and around the real problems.

      Why the NCAA model is dying and will be replaced

      We are in the best conference now that we have ever been in since the old MVC days. We host conference games this season with Tulane, Tulsa, Army, etc and those are great. Right where we need to be. Much better than the old SLC or even SunBelt. Playing some Power Teams are fun in both football and basketball, actually the highlight of the schedules! I look more forward to our away game with Texas Tech than a home game with SFA, and I think most fans do too.
