Molly Grisham has her college plans set in advance. Far in advance.

The Longview Lady Lobo soccer player has verbally committed to the University of North Texas. Grisham makes her commitment before her junior season at Longview begins in January.

Verbal commitments are non-binding. Grisham can't sign a letter of intent with North Texas until Feb. 2012, but she said she will stick by her commitment.

"In soccer, you basically have to decide by December of your junior year. I'm right on track," Grisham said. "It's not like football, where you commit, then change your commitment."

Grisham has already has a big impact in her first two seasons at Longview. A 5-8 midfielder, she has 28 goals and 14 assists. She is a two-time, first-team all-district selection and was a second-team, all-state selection by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO) in 2010.

Grisham has helped Longview to their two most successful seasons in school history as the Lady Lobos won 22 games in each of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. The Lady Lobos also had their longest playoff runs in those years, advancing to the Class 4A Region II final each time. Longview returns to Class 5A this season.

Grisham has played soccer since she was four years old. She currently plays club soccer for Sting '94, a Dallas-based team. Over the past year, except during Longview's soccer season, she travels to the Metroplex three or four times a week for soccer commitments.

Soccer signed a number of players to NLOI. One of whom is the daughter of a coworker and NT alum:

Gabi Ortiz is a midfielder from Austin, Texas who goes to McNeil High School and plays club for Lonestar SC. TopDrawerSoccer.com rates Ortiz as a three-star recruit. She was named Second Team All-District 16-5A as a junior in 2011.

Very proud of her. This signing made local news I'll provide a link if I can find it.
