VIRTUALLY everyone knows that lack of proper training and conditioning can be contributing factors to players having a rash of injuries early in a season. I don't think anyone is conclusively blaming the coaching staff, but how these guys were prepared for the season is certainly something to consider. If you must have some authoritative literature on the subject, here is a brief article on ACL injuries. Try Google if you need a few thousand more resources on the subject. http://www.synergy-athletics.com/effective-strength-training/why-young-athletes-tear-acls/

I have worked in the Health and Wellness field for over 18 years, and while this can be a contributing factor to ligament tears, this is not the only reason the ACL is torn or ruptured. Many other factors contribute to this type of injury that have nothing to do with the level of conditioning, muscular strength or muscular endurance such as:

Condition of the playing surface.

Footwear.

Angle and force placed upon the joint (accidental roll-up)

Foot getting caught underneath the player (ala Benny Jones' injury)

Angle and force placed upon the joint by an opposing player.

Laying the blame at the feet of our strength and conditioning coach for ALL of these injuries is short-sighted and VIRTUALLY everyone would agree with that.
