Hello there Mark, what are your thoughts on the hire?

I have not met Mrs. Hansen yet, but her resume is hard to argue with. She has had success as an athlete and a coach. She was a member of the 1984 Olympic team...that's the sort of thing that gets a recruit's attention. The only question is if a female coach will be able to win the respect of the male runners. I think it will help that she has skins on the wall.

I forgot to add Cross Country to the teams that compete in the fall, but those schedules need to be put out as well. Does NT offer separate 'ships for Cross Country or are those part of the regular track 'ships?

I tried that link on Mrs. Hansen on the Iowa site, and I couldn't find any information about how she'd done there. I was a bit surprised to see she'd only been there one year. I hope she's able to stay here longer, it takes a while to build a winning Cross Country program.

My son ran CC in high school, and I think it's a great sport.... except as a spectator. We have the State Cross Country Championships here as often as not, and I try to watch a couple of the runs every year.

Iowa finished middle-of-the-pack in several CC meets last year but finished 11th in the Big10 meet.

Reb, there are no scholarships for cross country. They are offered as part of track's allotment. It makes c.c. a budgetary winner for sure...no scholarships, limited travel, very little equipment.
