  1. After Coach Goldsmith retired, he officiated at track meets for many years. It was in that role that I got to know him during my days on the North Texas track team. He was always quick with a smile and a great story. Everyone who knew the man spoke of him in reverential terms. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed.
  2. Thanks, everyone! It was a tough day, but no excuses. I missed by personal best by less than 30 seconds. Now I have to get off my butt and break 2:40! Fellow North Texas track alumnus Shane Wall placed 26th overall in 2:44. See you at the Super Pit this winter! Go Mean Green!
  3. Here's the story. http://www.unt.edu/mgathletics/Athletics/T...ClarkAtNCAA.htm This concludes a great college career for Ms. Clark. Making it to the NCAA meet (even if not making the finals) in track puts one in very elite company.
  4. The North Texas women claimed their first ever conference championship in track & field last night. The men were third. Here is a link from the official site. http://www.unt.edu/mgathletics/Athletics/T...SBCOutdoor3.htm
  5. I have some specific times for the meet for May 10 & 11. Running events will start at 6:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday will be the best day to go as it will be all finals and the race for the team title will conclude that night. In terms of when it is held, from the athlete's perspective, it is the perfect weekend to have the conference championships. Final exams are over and the athletes can forget about school and tests for a while and just compete. Believe me, that's a huge thing. Hold it a week earlier and it interferes with finals. Hold it a week later and it cuts too close to the NCAA's new regional meet.
  6. This is just a little forward notice that the Sun Belt Outdoor Track Championships will be at Fouts Field on May 9-11, about 3 weeks away. This could be a good excuse for a little Mean Green get together before we go to Norman in August.
  7. I got this e-mail from the athletic department today. FYI http://www.unt.edu/mgathletics/Athletics/m...03BBBanquet.htm
  8. High jumper Deidre Wesley and the women's 4 X 100 relay team qualified for the new NCAA regionals in the first meet of the outdoor season. Here's the link: http://www.unt.edu/mgathletics/Athletics/T...nvitational.htm
  9. Here is a link to the results from the Sun Belt Indoor Track Championships. The Blue Raiders won both the men's and women's titles. http://www.sunbeltsports.org/sports/mit/1621.php
  10. UNT swimmer and diver were named Sun Belt athletes of the week. Just thought I would give some props to a sport that doesn't get much attention. The story from the Sun Belt site: http://www.sunbeltsports.org/sports/wsw/1494.pdf
  11. Mark Miller Class of 2000; BBA-Finance I currently live in Carrollton (I miss being in Denton, but the commute to North Dallas was too much.) I made every home fb game, 3 road games, and the N.O. Bowl, and have been a season ticket holder for football, men's and women's basketball since graduation.
  12. I just wanted to send a Merry Christmas wish to the entire Mean Green Nation. UNT has much to be thankful for this year- Chancellor Jackson, Dr. Pohl, RV, DD, JJ, a New Orleans Bowl victory, over 30,000 enrollment, a new engineering school, a law school on the horizon, new facilities on the way, ect. I hope each of you will get to spend some time with your families and loved ones this week. Until we gather at the next game, have a great Christmas and a happy new year. Mark
  13. The Sun Belt Cross Country meet was today in Denton. The North Texas men were 5th, the women 7th. Here is a link to the complete results.
  14. Reb, there are no scholarships for cross country. They are offered as part of track's allotment. It makes c.c. a budgetary winner for sure...no scholarships, limited travel, very little equipment.
