DENTON, Texas – Led by 22 points from junior Tommisha Lampkin, North Texas women's basketball opened the 2022-23 campaign with a strong 87-66 win over Texas A&M International Thursday in an exhibition matchup inside the Super Pit.

The Mean Green had four different players score in double figures in the win and forced 30 turnovers as they took down the Dustdevils in their final tune up before the start of the regular season.

Senior Quincy Noble finished the game with 17 points while juniors Jaaucklyn Moore added 14 and Courtlyn Loudermill finished with 11 to join Lampkin in double figures.

UNT opened the game on a quick 10-2 run highlighted by four points from Lampkin and another three from Moore.

Trailing 23-13, A&M International was able to climb back into the contest and cut the deficit to one with a 9-0 run to close the first quarter and start the second.

The Mean Green responded, however, by scoring 14 of the final 17 points of the second quarter to head into the locker room leading 37-25.

Coming out of the break, UNT swelled the lead to as many as 16 after freshman Breanna Davis hit a driving layup with 6:28 left in the third to go up 47-31. The Dustdevils were able to cut the deficit to single digits late in the quarter, but Lampkin made sure to keep them at arms-length by scoring eight of UNT's final 12 points to make the score 59-47 heading into the fourth.

Down the stretch, the Mean Green were able to pull away and grew the lead to as many as 26 after Moore knocked down a 3-pointer and closed the game with a 21-point victory.

Quoting Head Coach Jalie Mitchell
On the newcomers to the team:
"I was really pleased with the way our freshmen played. I've been saying this, but they don't necessarily look like freshman on the court. I thought they handled themselves pretty well defensively and made some plays on offense. They're really tough, they want to be good and they listen. So I know they're just going to continue to get better as the season goes along."
