Back-to-back-to-back

I may get downvoted all the way to University Park, but can someone fill me in?

Why are we already claiming ourselves to be three-time champions of Conference USA (and three years in a row), when we have not won the regular season title, or the conference tournament three years in a row yet?

I am dandy with claiming the championship in 2019-20 since we had the best conference record before the canceled tournament, but calling it back-to-back-to-back already doesn't sit right with me.

Nobody asked what I thought, though. Carry on.

I think the idea is three years in a row we've won either the regular season or tournament title.  So, we have been able to call ourselves champs every one of those seasons.
