FIU looks to regroup after Saturday’s 34-point defeat at the hands of league opponent Denver on Saturday…The rivalry between FIU and North Texas has been a fierce one with the Mean Green leading the all-time series, 3-1, and three of those four games ending in overtime, including last year’s 94-91 double-overtime North Texas victory in Miami…North Texas comes into Monday’s contest with a 5-2 record at The Super Pit this season including a 72-67 victory over Denver last Thursday night. The Golden Panthers look for their first road win of the year after seven tries…FIU comes into the game having lost five straight and 10 of its last 11. NT concludes a four-game homestand having won two of the first three…FIU will go without the services of junior forward Taurance Johnson who has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team policies. His status will be re-evaluated when the team returns home on Wednesday…Freshman Raphael daSilva “tweaked” his right ACL in the closing minutes at Denver, but he is expected to play…North Texas leads the Sun Belt Conference with 4.64 blocked shots per game, thanks mainly to the play of center Shawson Johnson who has swatted 29 shots in the nine games he has played. The senior, who transferred from LSU and has just this one semester of eligibility remaining, leads the Mean Green in scoring and in rebounding…After the game, FIU returns home and takes on Louisiana-Lafayette next Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised live as part of the SBC/ESPN Regional TV package.
