  3. The North Texas rugby club opens its season under the D1A Red River Conference along with Baylor, Oklahoma St., University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, TCU and Texas Tech. The club is one of the oldest sports clubs to be around at the university. Currently, the team is managed by former rugby alumni players. These coaches do not get paid for their positions, as they see it as a way to give back and keep the legacy going. “I had the opportunity to go play professionally after playing here at UNT so [I’m] just trying to give back where I can,” assistant coach Austin Becker said. “Give back to the boys and also try and create a pipeline with the local professional team at Dallas Jackals just trying to create every opportunity I can for the guys here, you know opportunities that weren’t there when I came to the school.” Coming into the new season, the team lost half of their players due to graduation or professional academy teams. Recruiting was one of the things members emphasized during the summer, whether that be attending high schools, hosting watch parties or tabling around campus. However, the team roster saw many new names join. A good portion of them joined the team having zero experience. “I would say in our conference we consistently have the least experienced recruiting class compared to other schools,” assistant coach Andrew Marshall said. “We only have two practice sessions so only twice a week, so [newcomers] are told they must watch rugby whenever they can. Just watching a sport when you are brand new to it, you’re going to absorb it very quickly because of all of the things you get from watching a broadcast of it.” LInk: https://www.ntdaily.com/sports/north-texas-alumni-look-to-keep-rugby-clubs-legacy-known/article_33f59e0a-7dc0-11ee-8b80-ef367a8640b2.html
  4. Really proud of how the boys fought back tonight. Very gutsy win. Congratz to Hodgy for his first of many.
  5. I think it is time for Eric to admit that this formation is not ever going to be what he thought it was. I get that we need the players but dammit we need to win now! There is no time for complacency in this conference. If we are ever to get admittance into the Big 12 we have to take the bull by the horns.
  6. That is just crazy talk. Nil is the most important thing to happen to college athletics in 30 years. SMU is proving that NIL can change the face of a program.
  7. DENTON, Texas – Led by Tommisha Lampkin’s 18 points, the North Texas women’s basketball defeated Oklahoma Christian, 100-63, Thursday in an exhibition match inside The Super Pit. The senior forward led all players in scoring with 18, 12 of which came in the second half. Lampkin also collected nine rebounds, including three on the offensive end. In head coach Jason Burton’s first home game at UNT, the Mean Green jumped out to an early 31-8 lead in the first quarter behind six 3-pointers, including three from Shamaryah Duncan and a pair from senior Maddie Cleary. The offense continued to be efficient from the field in the first half as 10 players recorded a basket in the first 20 minutes of action, leading to a 52-26 halftime advantage. The UNT lead grew to its largest of the game in the fourth quarter when Jaaucklyn Moore hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 88-47 with 6:07 left in the game. The two Texas A&M-Commerce transfers also posted double-digit performances with Dyani Robinson recording 14 and DesiRay Kernel adding 11 points. Cleary became the fourth player to reach double-digits for North Texas hitting her third 3-pointer of the game with 22 seconds left in the game. While the offense shined on Thursday night, the Mean Green defense played its part, holding OCU to 35% from the field and just eight first quarter points while forcing 18 turnovers. North Texas opens the 2023 regular season inside The Super Pit against UNT Dallas at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 6. Quoting Head Coach Jason Burton On how this game gives the team confidence heading into regular season: “Hopefully for one it gives our team confidence that what we’re doing works. That who we are is a team that is tough, that is everything we’ve been preaching as a staff and as leaders of our team. It helps cement some of the buy-in.” TICKETS Tickets for UNT’s season opener on Monday as well as season tickets are on sale now. Fans should purchase their tickets at www.meangreentickets.com.
  8. Yikes some of the comments in the article section are pretty rough!
  9. With UTSA announcing 34,864 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the fall 2023 semester and 5,898 ballots cast, 16.9% of the student population participated in the vote. Laynie Clark, editor-in-chief of UTSA's student newspaper The Paisano, which took a stance opposing the fee, said she was not surprised to see the student body reject paying more to an athletics department many will not engage with during their time at the school. "I definitely thought that it would be this leaning toward no, because most of UTSA does not care about athletics," Clark said. "That's a hard truth that the athletics department hasn't swallowed yet." read more: https://www.expressnews.com/sports/colleges/utsa/article/utsa-students-vote-reject-athletics-fee-increase-18451020.php

  11. Caponi is not the only one to blame on this. I sort of blame Phil Bennett as he went for speed over size and it is hurting us in that particular regard.
  12. I appreciate you as a poster but this seems to be a very defeatist attitude to me.
  13. Don't get me wrong, he's done some nice things but to place 4th in the West is absolutely inexcusable.
  14. A lot of hype reminds me of what many were saying about the Women's soccer team this season. I will believe it when I see it.
  15. Absolutely was a huge, monumental mistake to abandon the Missouri Valley for the pipedream of the SWC. Big Eight probably was more reasonable.
  16. Members of the North Texas men’s basketball team pose for a photo during an event with the Mean Green Collective. The group formed a name, image and likeness collective recently that aims to bolster the school’s basketball. read more: https://dentonrc.com/rsssports/new-unt-collective-aims-to-bolster-basketball-program-through-strength-in-numbers-concept/article_276baea0-ccca-59cb-8aec-27fdb8c526d0.html
  17. The Mountain West and Oregon State and Washington State could form an alliance, per Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger. Now pause, alliance is a term used by conferences before that amounted to nothing. We’re looking at you Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12. The remaining Pac-12 teams, or Pac-2 if you want to call it, could get a deal done for the long term to figure out their futures. read more: https://www.on3.com/news/oregon-state-washington-state-scheduling-alliance-mountain-west-pac-12-conference/
