  1. We SHOULD hire an AD first and he/she should be able to hire their football coach but I'm not very optimistic that will happen.
  2. I don't even know if it's doable but how do we feel about Brian Harsin? I get his Auburn tenure wasn't great but he's been at Texas, coached Ark St, did well at Boise for several years and is only 46 years old. I think this would be a perfect opportunity for him to take.
  3. I really don't have an issue with retreads if it's the right retreads. Dan Mac not working out here doesn't mean there aren't a lot of great coaches out there with a lot of valuable HC experience that would do well with another opportunity IMO.
  4. I didn't feel they were a rival in the beginning, but it has morphed into a rival because we've been conference mates for a while and there have been quite a few memorable games. It's at least happened organically which was not the case years ago. We're allowed to have more than one rival. SMU is certainly a rival now if we weren't already for being in the same conference.
  5. I've long thought that UNT has the worst setup and game plan when it comes to how it handles all of their apparel. You hardly ever see them in stores and the worst part of it is all UNT apparel is grossly expensive. There has to be a ton more suppliers out there that can make apparel that is far more affordable than what they continuously give us every damn year. If there's a reason why we don't see more and more people buy NT apparel, I just think it's availability and mainly the ridiculous costs.
  6. I'm not at all advocating to have the buy cheap approach but at the end of the day it's all about making the right hires. I look at what Ark St. did for a number of years hiring guys that were great coaches and the right hire and they all excelled at ASU being in Jonesboro AR and went on to bigger and better jobs. It can be done but it seems that NT just can't ever seem to find that right FB hire.
  7. With a nationally ranked football program in the midst of a historic season, The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and head football coach Jeff Traylor have signed a contract extension through 2031 valued at $28 million. Traylor's annual salary will average $2.8 million, in addition to potential bonuses, and the university will increase the salary pool for assistant coaches and support staff.
  8. I'm not going to pretend like I know anything about Joey McGuire but I would have to think we can do a lot better with a lot more skins on the wall including proven HC experience. While nothing is a guarantee we really can't afford to mess up yet another FB hire.
  9. Has anyone mentioned Chris Petersen anywhere? I get he might be a reach and I don't know if he would even be interested coming to a place like this but he's 57 and I think we need someone like him that can build a program and coach his players up. That's really what we need. Recruiting is vital I get that but program building and the ability to coach up the roster you have is what I think we really need. I think getting a guy like Peterson would really be great and I could care less if they have previous Texas ties or not. Everybody recruits and has recruited this state as it is but if they don't have that then that's fine, they'll come here and start building relationships immediately because he is a known name and commodity.
  10. Another reason why I've always liked the MWC b/c of their their stability. You pretty much know who's in there and I feel like I'm always able to watch several of those schools on TV every weekend. It might just be me but I don't think the same can be said about AAC games.
  11. I don't agree that they bring nothing either but being a small private probably doesn't help their cause. That said they do have what a lot of schools can't say and that they do have the history and affiliation of the old SWC which I think could very well come in handy when you combine that with the amount of money they have and what they've been able to do on the athletics front the last few years in FB and MBB. But if they're going to mention their SWC days in their presentation then they better do it sooner than later because the longer time goes the farther and farther that history won't mean much of anything to anyone IMO.
  12. Like the AAC if this is true but I've long been on the MWC train. I think it's a better conference with more recognizable schools/teams that seem to always have consistent top 25 teams in football every year. I'm still hoping there's a chance at the MWC but if that doesn't happen then I'm still content. Now if we can just finally figure out a way to consistently get some wins on the football field....
  13. Just heard on the ticket that both the men's and women's tournaments will be played with no fans at all. First major domino to fall of this magnitude.
  14. Weird situation here. In this case I think both sides can be both on the right and wrong.
  15. Whether this is a great hire or not long term time will certainly tell but the fact that Houston shelled out $4 million a season on their head coach certainly looks good perception wise especially to other P5 conferences if/when they want to rethink realignment and add schools.
  16. If he is truly offered the job then yes I don't see how he would turn it down. It's perfectly fine to do that...he'll probably get 2.5x more than what he makes here in Denton and he's coaching a P5 school that we know can be very good and elite in football. The most important person to our athletics program is Wren Baker. Successful coaches particularly in FB & BB will leave here because we'll likely never be able to match their pay so it is up to Wren Baker continuously making the right hires so take care of him as he's the most important of the bunch IMO.
  17. We've had reason to gripe about NT athletics, teams, fans, administration etc for various things over the years and for many decades but yesterday was not the one that needed to be called out. We've had really solid attendance and I don't expect anything different for Rice in a couple of weeks and it may very well be the first true sellout in Apogee's history.
  18. I get that but there are 6 games a year and we generally know the times of those games weeks/months in advance. This stuff can be planned early without ever needing to miss going to Apogee. That said like anything else things can come up suddenly as life happens but that's ok that can and does happen anywhere and everywhere else too.
  19. I always prefer the earlier start times unless it's in September when it's way too ridiculously hot. It's a great feeling that I can enjoy half the day doing NT activities and still have most of the rest of the day and spend time with the family, friends etc. Regardless of timing I'll still be there but given we have 6 home games a year and have a long time to plan these things I don't think start times should ever make a difference.
  20. It'd been pouring cats and dog where I was until about 1pm. People didn't show up because weather was just bad and I don't fault them one bit. We are not the exception here...this type of weather especially that includes a delay impacts attendance all across the country including the P5's. The people that passed and decided to not come did so because they have a choice. Not enough people realize that times are different now and there are plenty of options out there and that they'll do what makes them most comfortable. Our attendance has been good the last couple of years...I expect a great turnout for Rice. And no coaches are going to leave or stay because of attendance...we can sell out every game but if opportunity arises for a better job and more money and status guess what they'll be gone in a heartbeat.
