  1. Would TT really want to play us in a bowl game? That said I want a bowl game that is super winnable for us. IMO it's better to win your bowl game that gets us to 10 or 11 wins against a G5 opponent than losing and potentially losing badly to a P5 such as a TT.
  2. Why the heck would Leach leave his current job and move back to Lubbock?
  3. I've flown Spirit several times and never had any issue with them. If you know what they're all about before booking w/them and flying w/them then they're a great IMO and you'll be able to save some money. I just checked on their site and you can literally fly to FLL in the morning and get there at 940am, attend the game and fly back out that night at 8pm and the tickets are less than $200. If I wasn't getting married and didn't have wedding planning and hosting out of town family I'd most likely do that and attend the game.
  4. I totally get the landscape has changed and will continue to change. The TV money is going to dwindle but not just for the G5's but for everyone. Even within the P5's, how many of them are the major draws from a tv perspective from a national level? Maybe 20-25? Few of the other ones have a good regional following but I feel the money is going to be going down all across the board. That said, it doesn't mean there won't be any money there....as of now the G5's have to rely on actual tickets sold, donations etc...that's not going to change later on. I don't see the complete break off between the P5 and G5...it kind of is already divided indirectly...G5's don't have a shot at the playoff...they might be lucky to get into a major bowl like a WMU last season but how often is that going to happen? There's a disruption now but there's also going to be new things that come...We can now watch games on Facebook, Twitter etc....there's going to be other services and products that get created which will add a new dimension to entertainment IMO. While it looks slightly worrisome especially from our perspective I just think we're still a ways away before the worst happening. From a NT perspective we just need to continue to poor resources and money into the important programs and try to get ourselves aligned and associated with the AAC's & MWC's of the world. Perception wise they're viewed much more favorably and IMO just better conferences than CUSA IMO. We do that I think we'll be fine and we'll continue to have winning/successful seasons which elevates our programs and our school's profile.
  5. Disappointed to see this loss. Quick question for those more educated in men's college basketball than me but how does a loss like this stack up to the loss against Alabama Huntsville in Benford's first season? Are they in any way equal or similar?
  6. I'd never rule it out...coaches have left after 1 or 2 seasons for bigger/better programs and get more money. I'm not saying it'll happen...I hope it doesn't of course but this article is just the nature of the beast that I don't mind because it means' we're doing something good!
  7. There isn't a chance in hell that Brett wants North Texas athletics to suck...he's seen enough shitty sports covering us over the years and he obviously wants them to be good so he can enjoy his work even more. This article is just reality...we wanted our programs to win and this one is in good fashion...with the coaching carousel that's in CFB these days it just comes with the territory when G5's and lower P5's have really nice success.
  8. I've no interest in playing Army again for the same reasons that's already been discussed here. In fact I'd like to stay away from scheduling teams with offenses such as theirs. I've said this for years on this board and to everyone I ever speak to about NT football and NT sports in general for that matter...I DO NOT WANT fans of the opposing team coming to Apogee. I don't want to rely on the other team's fans in filling up our freaking house. We have 38K students, couple hundred thousand alumni in the area and are in a region of about 7 million people. Let's give our own fans/alums etc reasons to filling up all 30K seats. What increases visibility, buzz & recruiting are wins...and more win...and then more wins...and then even more wins. I'd much rather beat a fellow G5 opponent or beat the tar out of them then play a Texas Tech or Houston and lose by 1 point. If we win...all is well...if we lose it's like oh ya there's no way we could beat TT, Hou, etc. It's just peoples mindset and perceptions that we're going to have right now until and if we just truly start turning this thing around win consistently for years and years. While I'm no fan of the Liberty home/home it gives us a reason to kick the living tar out of them twice and just accumulate those wins which we need desperately as a program to change culture/perception.
  9. Now that I remember, I had heard that he's throwing a big and open tailgate for this game.
  10. This is a garbage road team. 1 point out of a possible 6 against Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay. I'm not really sure what this team is and what it can be but it is beyond my comprehension why we continue to have Patteryn and Oleksiak out there every night and I'll also include Hamhius. There is no reason Honka should be in Austin right now....he needs to be with the big club and I can handle him making mistakes because he's young and learning but not the other guys. AND he will help with this team's offense. Other than Benn, Seguin, Radulov & Klingberg this team cannot score still. I get we're just a quarter of the way through the season with a lot of hockey left but man this does not look any better than average. Matinee home game tomorrow against Connor McDavid against the Oilers and it wouldn't surprise me if they put a stomping on Dallas.
  11. I like the 4pm kickoffs but I wouldn't want to do them for the first 2-3 home games because it's still usually balls hot and sun still out staring right at you.
  12. Yep I mentioned they along with most schools around here had club teams. If there was some partnership with the Stars, a Stars Center could be built in Denton and they wouldn't have to go to Frisco. I've heard that a center in Denton is in the works again but not sure how close they are to it. Absolutely UNT can rent ice time but the intentions should be based on forward thinking. Building a multi purpose arena that can also be configured and setup for hockey would be essential. It would be silly not to go that route IMO. If you're going to spend time, energy and millions of dollar then do it right is all I'm saying. I obviously know it's a wish list and something that would happen way in the future if at all after Baseball but I really don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that we along with other major schools in the state get into D1 NCAA hockey.
  13. If we're going to build an arena I'd like us to be forward thinking for sure. I'm not saying it should or needs to be 10K but I wouldn't want something smaller than about 8k. We need to ensure that the arena is multi purpose for virtually anything including ice hockey. Hockey is growing the south. All schools around here and around the state have club teams and it's only a matter of time that more and more schools here will develop interest and make the move to NCAA D1 ice hockey. Arizona State started couple of years ago, Alabama Huntsville has one and Nebraska Omaha has a program. I read a year or two ago that University of Alabama isn't far away from really taking that legitimate step. I've always felt a D1 ice hockey program would be so awesome and great for the school and the hockey market here. It can be pricey however this is where we can develop partnership with the Stars to jump start funding and interest. Not only could we have an ice hockey program but that arena could also host various hockey tournaments as well from a local and national level. The younger people are gravitating towards sports like soccer, ice hockey etc...I feel that's an opportunity. If that wasn't a direction WB would go they could always partner with the Stars and build a DP Stars Center in Denton with the idea that they would have a rink that could seat about 3-5K people and our team could play their games there.
  14. It's very well known that RV had absolutely nothing to do with the Littrell hire. This was Smatty's hire and push from the very start and RV was just here in just title and taking up space until he left.
  15. I'm ok with it if it's maybe once in a blue moon....like possibly once a year or every other year which may also mean we could play a road game on that day. That being said I'd be more ok with it if it were on Thursday or Friday. The games that are on Tuesday and Wednesday are just not that worth it to me because our attendance issues are still there. If we can prove that we can virtually sell out or get a really really good crowd regardless of day then I'll be more open to that idea in a once in a while basis.
  16. The goal is to win the game...they did. It just takes 1 point to win so I don't understand the issue. We are happy because the alternative outcome was losing...so why won't the fans be happy when we not only won but ALSO became bowl eligible. I don't care if they're just 2nd, 3rd, or 10th teamers. There are two teams trying to win a game and have self pride to go out there an give it their all not to mention they were playing at home. The average/casual fan/person does not give a rip how many points we won by, what the detailed statistics are etc. The bottom line people will ask and want to know is did they win or lose and what is their record. Our recruiting has sucked because the product on the field has been utter garbage. I don't care who/what you are, you will not recruit well if you're perennial losers for much of our history. We're seeing improvement and it appears the program is truly being rebuilt and rebuilt the right way. Let's just hope the momentum continues and if/when it does you'll see a huge spike in recruiting. This will take time...this is not a quick fix in Denton.
  17. I'm not really sure what this thread has turned into and what the hell we're arguing about. It's beyond me why we need to apologize for wins. We are effing 6-3 for crying out loud and have a chance to do even more special things this season. College sports fans are the worst.
  18. On another not I believe Coach Bro has a buyout of like 7 or 8 million. Even for rich P5 programs I've read that it's super rare that schools will dish that out. I get that it's been Tech's MO for a while but if Coach Bro can just get a respectable defense they'd be able to win a lot more. I heard on the ticket few weeks back that when they give up like 30 points or 35 points and under they're undefeated in his tenure. Not sure if that's change but it was some weeks back.
  19. Haha oh ya believe me I wouldn't say I'm old but I'm reaching the age too where I'm already starting to think about wrapping up and going home at about 10:30 when I'm out and about. This is really aimed at the younger people and ones that like to party. Many times people don't start showing up to parties until about 9-11pm . As I always say...if people have the desire to show up in anything in life they will....no reason why most people couldn't accomplish both last night if that was indeed the reason of piss poor attendance. Game ended at 9...night is still young for many.
  20. I don't see how this really helps. Then you'll have people say that they can't come because they have other commitments w/their kids activities etc during the day. I really don't think moving the time helps. I've been to plenty of parties in my life and I and everyone on this board very well know that things don't start happening til late. The game ended around 9pm last night...people could have come and went straight to the party after the game if they wanted. Heck if they needed to get ready they could still go home, dress up and be at their party no later than 10:30. I just think it's overthinking things....unless we were undefeated or had 1 loss I'm not sure attendance is all that much better last night.
