  1. I have not seen those interviews, but don't doubt he will be a leader. A rare senior that did not transfer in. I hope he does start and has a great season; I just think he is going to have a lot of competition at the guard position. I think the All American Juco guard will be the point. Jones was not a good 3 shooter at 32% and not a particularly good ball handler. He is a tall guard and a good defender. Obviously, his minutes will depend on how he compares to the multiple transfer guards added.
  2. He was definitely a lot closer to 312 than 250. The thing that made Booger great was his quickness combined with his bowling ball physique.
  3. Must be hell for UT. Or for that matter, OU, Arizona, Nevada, South Carolina, etc. Go with North Texas, assume most fans have a little sense and can ascertain the usage of Texas by the context of the message. Do not like and seldom use UNT, much prefer North Texas or NT.
  4. Bourbon can only be made in the USA. Scotch in Scotland. Not that difficult to understand. The designation is based on where it is made and/or aged; not the mash or recipe. The taste of whiskey is largely based on the storage of that alcohol. The amount of time and the barrell, it is stored in.
  5. Did I not say that neither SMU or NT were major factors in DFW sports? That SMU is getting mentioned for elevation to P5 and NT is not, was my focus. SMU has taken any "publicity is good publicity" to the extreme, being the most penalized program ever. I think that NT has more to offer than SMU to a conference, yet they swing for the fences and we seem to be content with a relatively minor move up to the AAC.
  6. Laugh or not, SMU is getting mentioned. Where have you seen NT mentioned for any P5 level conference? SMU is a small factor like NT in the DFW sports market, but unlike NT: SMU doesn't act like it. NT IMO, is doing more positive in Sports from the administration level than at any time. So this is not a rant complaining about NT's athletics However, I wish NT would be as aggressive as SMU in getting their name out there.
  7. Why do you think SMU has high academics? I am serious, I've been to both. It depends on what courses you are taking, but to assume that more expensive means better academics is questionable. By the way, I liked SMU. On a very limited very old sample, I thought SMU professors were better; but that is comparing grad to undergrad school. Majoring in accounting at NT was much harder than anything I had at SMU. A big plus in favor of NT was the diversity and just the number of students that provided a much better social network. I also liked the college town atmosphere much more than University Park. Frankly, I am not looking forward to NT playing SMU. SMU with NIL has an enormous advantage.
  8. Good hitting numbers, but pitching stats are great. 1.63 era, but averaged 1.62 strikeouts an inning in junior year
  9. As much as I appreciate the negative feedback, how about actually debating the issue. If you think the Rice athletes are representative of the academic status of the rest of the student body, present your data. I have no doubt that they are superior students relative to the norm of the AAC or CUSA leagues', but not even close to their fellow students at Rice.
  10. How do you know who the leader of the team is? I am not sure I even know what that is. Murray was IMO a leader of the team but the team did not depend on his play. With little to go on, I just think others have as much on court experience as Jones and project to be better. I don't think Jones will be the starting pg and is more likely to play off the ball. The faster NT plays IMO the more likely Jones is on the floor. Overall, this should be a very deep team and multiple guards will get significant minutes.
  11. Have you looked at the roster numbers, NT has on the last roster; 20 offensive lineman including only two seniors? Nearly the same on the DL, 15 listed with only 2 seniors. This for a team that is supposed to be going to a 3 man front. These numbers do not include most of members of the last reported class that have not yet enrolled. Also, most of the starters on both lines are returning. I am sure that NT would like to add high potential linemen, but it is far from a panic situation.
  12. I didn't mine attending games in Fouts. I was and am much more interested in what NT does in the stadium then nitpicking the stadium. All these stadium rating lists are bias, I bet there is not one writer of these articles that has seen half the stadiums in person. Most are actually rating something called the game experience and the big time programs with full stadiums should and do dominate. The best college basketball I have ever seen in person was at the Pit, likewise the best NT football was at Fouts. I don't think Joe Greene, Steve Ramsey, Booger Kennedy; etc. thought Fouts was a great facility; but somehow it featured some great games. As far as the Wing, why not. It makes the stadium that used to be called Apogee unique and not like the other hundreds of stadiums with basically the same structure. Different is obvious not alway good, but NT has a lot better uses for their money than making the stadium more pleasing to a portion of the fanbase. A cookiecutter stadium is not going to increase attendance, improve recruiting, or move NT up the athletic food chain.
  13. NIL should be deductible if it is a legitimate business expense. Meaning that the payee would have to provide something of value for the NIL money. First the payor would have to actually have a business that benefits from the NIL. Any kind of collective should not qualify when they are not providing goods or services to a customer base. Because the NIL should not be connected to the school, it is not a charitable donation. It will be very interesting, how the IRS handles NIL.
  14. Not sure what standards are being referred to, Rice probably doesn't have a handful of men scholarship athletes that would be accepted at Rice unless they were athletes.
  15. What is your definition, mine would be someone that substantially upgrades their play and importance to the team. A true sleeper would probably be a player that no one expect to even play, and turns out to be one of the better performers on the team.
  16. A mustang fan talking about any other team's fanbase is always amusing. SMU obviously has deep pocket fans, but few in numbers. The Dallas Team campaign is good marketing, but far from accurate. As far as being relevant on the overall college football scene, neither SMU, NT or any other team not in a major conference is going to excite the masses. SMU should dominate the AAC just based on the money that they have from NIL, they have always been good paying players.
  17. I differ with a lot of you and think the only sure starter at this point is Scott. I go with Sissoko over Allen at the other big. Guards are tougher to pick but I do not think Jones is going to start. My picks at the starting guard positions are Edwards, Nolan and Buggs. Heavy rotation players in Walker, Jones and Allen. Obviously, this could change with the addition of a couple more players. I look for another guard and forward to be added. For a team that lost so much with Perry and Huntsberry leaving, this team looks like they have the potential to be deeper and maybe even better. NT will be far from a run and gun team, but I do think they will average in the low seventies on offense.
  18. Disagree, most players believe they are good enough to start anywhere. Few are content to ride the bench anywhere. Reality is that if over half a teams recruits significantly contribute than that team is doing well.
  19. Looks like a major upgrade in coaching to me. It was past time for a change.
  20. Or what? There is no stated female/male requirements for the number of teams or athletes at a NCAA school. Only title IX which mandates equal access by the sexes to sports. Because of the large numbers of players needed for football, most schools have taken the easier path and basically eliminated men sports to get compliance ratios. It is an incredibly stupid rule, that does not take economic issues, attendance, fan interest or participation rates into consideration. What college's fear are individual lawsuits of females suing for lack of equal opportunity not sanctions from the NCAA. I have wondered why males don't sue for equal access to sports other than football and basketball. I believe this is just an excuse on the part of NT not to fund baseball. Many schools have added bowling, rowing, sand volleyball and like sports to balance the addition of baseball. I doubt NT would even have to do that. The real reason for no baseball, is that it is a really expensive sport. Travel, coaching, scholarships, equipments are continuing cost, but where are the millions necessary for a suitable baseball stadium going to come from.
  21. Not everyone has to insert something may happen between committing and signing. I think 99+% of fans that take part in this board realize that. Looks like a great pickup at a need position.
  22. Simon is currently the best player on the team, would tread lightly before moving her to another position. If I remember correctly Simon's fielding issues were in the early season, and she finished strong. The best fielding shortstop should play, both are also sure to be in the hitting lineup. This is a very deep team and there should be a number of good position battles with the significant number of additions to the team.
  23. The thing is, is that most of the current team doesn't have to reach new levels of hitting. Most hit much much better the season before last. It was strange how much this team's overall hitting fell last year with most of the same players. Other than Simon, most players were much less effective at the plate. Makes you wonder if there was a revised hitting strategy are something that just did not worki.
  24. No I did absolutely no research; I just knew golfstat rankings for every team. You are replying to my quote, what gloom and doom are you referring to? The part I said it is not an apparent upgrade and a "wait and see hire." What to you know about his history that refutes that statement? Other than NT fired the previous coach and hired him. Didn't work that well with a great number of past NT head coaches; Dodge, Stephens, Benford, Tyler, and many others. I was expecting a bigger name with a better history, but also stated that I have faith in Mosley's decision which is based on a lot more research than any fan has. It was an opinion not an indictment.
  25. Don't think you mean that a shooter can't improve because it should be obvious they can. Stone was a good scorer in high school and I believe he can be at NT. I think it is a confidence issue more than talent.
