  1. This just was not close to the year many predicted for the MG softball team. Just wonder what got into Delong's head. He seemed to be determined with winning playing small ball, I guess he knows more than anybody that his team just can't hit. It looked to me that NT in the batter's box was playing for walks and bunts more than just hitting the damn ball. How does a team's batting average drop nearly .50 points with basically the same players. Some comparative stats. Batting average 2023-.242 22-.290 HRS 23-54 22-71 ERA 23-1.54 22-2.81 Games can be won with great pitching and solid defense, but there has to be a few runs scored. This team if everyone stays should be loaded next year with a senior laden team. Only big loss due to expiration of eligibility is Peters who was the best player on this year's team. However, the pitching staff still looks to be very strong. Hope this is just an almost unexplainable off year, and things return to NT softball normal next year. However, the competition is going to be much greater.
  2. Careful, what you wish for; I am sure Gamble, Simon and several of the pitchers will get plenty of contacts wanting them to move to another team.
  3. Hate the loss, but a team that can't hit any better than NT doesn't deserve to be in the NCAA tournament.
  4. This is a major fault in the system, if a call is challenged than the umpires who made the call decide if they were right.
  5. My guess he had several offers before he entered the portal. I believe it is really rare that a starter leaves for the portal unless he already has assurances that he is going to a higher ranked school and/or is going to receive more NIL money.
  6. Yeah, all those benchwarmers from the "big" schools are destined to be stars at NT. Fail to see that Kentucky getting the best college freshmen in the country and then losing them to the pros has anything at all to do with NT. I don't see how lower level conference teams developing players and than losing them to teams higher on the food chain, is a good thing for those teams or sports in general. Hopefully, this transfer stuff will be less a factor without the free year due to the covid virus.
  7. Appears to have size and juco success, but offer list is far from impressive. Have to trust in the NT recruiting staff on this one.
  8. I wonder about some of Delong's decisions, like starting Savage in an important game. Savage has all the potential in the world, but she is too wild to ever start in a championship game at this point in her career.
  9. Happy birthday, to one of NT's greatest fans. I look at other teams message boards and realize how lucky we are to have GMG.
  10. She is taking over the most visible part of supposedly one of the best music school around, the marching band. I fail to see how anyone is impressed with a former high school band director who won UIL competitions. I do think that obviously she has potential way above anything she has thus far accomplished. It still looks like a risky move to me. However, nothing surprises much with NT's band program, who apparently embraced the idea the bigger the better. They have been consistently outperformed by smaller more enthusiastic bands. This is not a knock on the band members, but a condemnation of the direction of the band. Bring back the focus on the drumline, learn more than 3 songs, play some music that football fans not music majors want to listen to.
  11. If that is an accurate quote, NT just hired the wrong head coach. Frankly, I highly doubt Hodge ever said that.
  12. Perry was one of the best ever, however I would go with Joe Hamilton or Kenneth Lyons as the best ever. Hamilton did everything Perry did without the luxury of the 3 pointer. He was IMO a much better point guard at distributing the ball and was a much quicker player than Perry. Both Perry and Hamilton were great outside shooters, but Hamilton was much better scoring on drives to the basket. Hamilton also played in the old MVC which was a much better league than current CUSA. Lyons played four years and at 6'7 was as tough as it gets. Both Hamilton and Lyons statistically benefited from playing in a run and shoot offense compared to McCasland's slow pace. I am sure these players were way before your time, however be careful when you state someone is the greatest of all time without at least attempting to see what the competition for that title would be. Obviously, there where NT players that very well could be better than any I ever witnessed such as John Savage, Jim Mudd, etc.
  13. Do you ever check before posting?" The Big West was a pretty good conference Plus here are some of the oc games A&M multiple times Texas Tech multiple times TCU multiple times Arkansas #20 in nation Maryland #5 in nation Oklahoma St #11 in nation Indiana St Baylor Oklahoma etc, etc, If anything, Davis played at a much higher level of competition than the current NT teams face
  14. Hard to tell Savage and Peters apart, they almost look like twins.
  15. Great game for the Mean Green ladies. The greatest home win ever, over #6 team with their All American pitcher starting. Timely hitting and excellent pitching from Savage and Peters. Surprised at the apparent lack of interest by fans on this board.
  16. I hope she is great, but I guess I disagree with original poster, seems to me a glaring lack of credentials for the position. Directed a high school band and went to a good music school.
  17. Left unabated, NIL will end any interest in college sports for the majority of the fans. Stating that college sports has always been crooked is true, but this (everything to the highest bidder) will result in a small group of NCAA pro teams. Hopefully the NCAA will curtail NIL with some reasonable limits. Unless, that happens: the majority of the teams will be forced into a more amateur model of competition. Most teams like NT are far from making money from any sport. They are basically subsidized by the current students. At some point, this model will undoubtedly crater. Look for another lawsuit with some student group suing a school for making them pay athletic fees and tuition that fund college sports. The vast majority of college students do not support college athletics. Why should they pay for games they don't even go to? Now add the fact that the students payments are paying for room, board, etc. for players making thousands of dollars playing college games, and it gets even more unbearable.
  18. Not missing any point, you are assuming he is going to be a star in the B12 or SEC. Then he is in better position, but it is not like the pro scouts don't already have him on the radar and have basically already decided if they think he is pro caliber or not. Likewise a poor showing in a higher tier league would cost him a lot in the scout's standings. My belief is that he is going to have a tough go in the pros even though I think he is basically underrated as a college player. His size and quickness will definitely not be assets. Can he play defense and get his shots versus much quicker and bigger guards? My projection is that he will end up playing overseas and be able to support himself. However, with NIL; next year maybe his best chance to make money.
  19. Yes, UAB having commitments from 2 of the top 6 ranked jucos on this list gets your attention.
  20. Missouri is not a good SEC program, they are 4-14 in the SEC conference. No use making excuses for a team that is just not playing well. Hopefully, they can turn it around in the CUSA tournament.
  21. Also Marquette when they were number one in the nation, only that was in Dallas I think. Just because you have done something before, doesn't mean it will happen anytime soon again. There was a time when few teams took the game seriously in Texas. UH and NT were the best programs in the state. A few times every year a power basketball program will play an away game against a lesser conference, so it is obviously possible. I just do not think it occurs enough to logically believe that NT will get a game like this more than once a decade.
  22. Not sure how much coaching has to do with winning tennis programs. I am sure it is vital to have a good coach, however success seems to be more measured by who can buy the best international players. Something needs to change, NT did not win a single match against conference foes: Charlotte, FIU, UTSA or Rice or future AAC team Tulane. Very bad UTEP, was NT's only conference win. I would guess a coaching change will be coming.
  23. I am sure McCasland is scared to death to play NT, are you kidding. My guess is that he doesn't want to go up against his chief assistant, at least this early in his D1 head coaching career. I doubt there is anyway that Tech will ever travel to Denton for a game. It is very rare that a team from a higher tier conference is ever going to play an away game against a team from a perceived lesser league.
