  1. Not sure where you think Sumlin coached but here is his career bio: 88-90 Washington State graduate assistant 91-92 Wyoming WR coach 93-96 Minnesota WR coach 1997 Minnesota QB coach 98-00 Purdue WR coach 01-02 Texas A&M Assistant/OC 03-05 Oklahoma Special Teams/TE's coach 06-07 Oklahoma WR/Co-OC 08-present Head Coach at Houston. I would argue also that Sumlin has improved upon what Briles started and has UH recruiting better than ever. I am intrigue by Canales and think he should be given a fair shot at the position. All of the former HC's listed have some type of baggage they are dragging around, and there is a reason some are not currently coaching. Here is Canales bio: 1985-86 Brigham Young University Graduate Assistant - Quarterbacks 1987-94 Snow College Offensive Coordinator - Quarterbacks C oach 1995 Pacific Quarterbacks Coach 1996-2000 University of South Florida Offensive Coordinator - Quarterbacks Coach 2001-2002 North Carolina State Quarterbacks Coach /Passing Game Coordinator 2003 New York Jets Wide Receivers Coach 2004-2006 University of Arizona Offensive Coordinator - Quarterbacks Coach 2007-2009 University of South Florida Offensive Coordinator - Quarterbacks Coach
  2. I would hope they would apply for everyone. Then again, we aren't in a Big Six Conference and they would all be denied anyway.
  3. Considering all of the injuries we have suffered this year, will NT request redshirts for all of these players, or those that want one? Does anyone have any information on this?
  4. You might be able to catch a replay through the WKU website. It wasn't on television.
  5. Agreed. Shoot Canales, or any other assistant for that matter, could be the next Urban Meyer. I'm sure their were some Utah fans that were upset when he was hired and didn't know him from Adam, but look how that turned out.
  6. Interesting. Isn't Franchione your favorite to get the job. Seems to me that he has applied for quite a few jobs recently and been turned down for all of them. Isn't this a point of concern?
  7. True, the same was said about Dodge, but that was prior to him coaching a single game for us, while the comment was made about Canales after coaching his first game. How do some of you expect these young men to react after all the injuries, the promising start to the season, the death of a player and the coach that recruited them getting the axe? They deserve to celebrate this win through Sunday, but starting Monday it must be left behind and the focus and enery shifted towards Troy.
  8. This is why Canales is intriguing to me. He's passionate about coaching, but more so, about coaching at North Texas. This is an attitude I haven't seen in a coach here in years. From the post game video, it is also obvious that the coaches care for him. You put a man in charge that has the players and coaches working hard for him and you've got one of the main ingredients for success (recruiting being the other). I also have much respect for Riley. That young man has put up with a lot throughout his career as TD's son. To come back the week after your dad is fired, with a broken left wrist and to manage the game and produce a 27 point win with your teammates tells me alot about this young man. Glad he is on our team.
  9. Great job in the win over WKU. You could have easily mailed it in for the rest of the season considering all that has recently happened with the program, but you hung together and earned yourself a win on Saturday. Dominant performance by both lines, great games from Orr, Roberson, Penson, Phillips,etc... on defense. Great game from Dunbar, and Carey on offense with a nice late run from Byrd and game management from RD. Celebrate today and let's whip Troy next week!
  10. Same thing was done after the FAU win. I think Canales might have that "something" that makes the kids want to play for him. It will be interesting to see how we finish out the year. It is good to see the team enjoying themselves. After all they have been through, they've never given up and continued to work hard.
  11. It would be nice to have some continuity with the program. If Canales is successful the remainder of this season, I would give him a shot.
  12. Just face it everyone, this is just CaribbeanGreen needing to take another shot at Dodge. Seems like it would be enough to celebrate the win, but some of us need to kick folks when they are down.
  13. Great win for the team. Houstonmeangreen, did you watch the game and observe Riley first hand or are you joining caribbeangreen in being a little over the top? (I would have said something else, buy didn't want to get banned for stating the obvious). Congrats Coach C, staff and the entire team. They could have given up on this year, but chose to show us what they are made of. I am very proud of all of them.
  14. Pretty funny stuff. I didn't realize Vito dug so deep for his ideas/information! From his blog: meangreenblog
  15. Well, I didn't post before the series started, but I thought all along Rangers in five. I don't think that is possible now, but we'll see.
  16. Lot's of good stories and memories. I love SUMG's idea of honoring Coach B with an empty chair and a catchy phrase attached to it. I also remember the green boots and thinking they were the coolest things I'd ever seen. Remember, these were the days of the "Flying Worm" and the Apple Green uniforms. I ran in to Coach B at the old Denton County Pro-Am Golf Tournament when he was the coach. He was on like his 14th or 15th hole of the round, and I approached his cart as it sat by a teebox to get his autograph. As I approached the cart, I noticed the basket on the back was full of empty golf ball sleeve boxes. Must have been 6 or 8 in there. Anyway, Blakely signs and autograph for me, tees up his ball, takes a swing and clips the ball with the heal of the club. The ball shoots between his legs, rolls down a hill and into a lake. Blakely just grinned and said "I'm done." He had gone through about 2 dozen balls and was out. Pretty funny moment and typical of his personality. RIP.
  17. Just as some wear their burnt orange envy on their sleeve?
