  1. Today at an estate sale my wife found me an amazing North Texas football relic... the original film of the North Texas @ Wichita State game from Nov. 23, 1968. The last game from one of our greatest seasons, which we won 44-6. I don't know if it is the entire game or just part of the game. I looked at the very beginning of the film and think the film might need to be rewound. It shows the teams on the 20, and looks like we are in victory formation, but I can't be sure. Formations were very different back then. I'm going to get a projector and watch it and then have it converted to DVD. I'll have to post a photo of the film later this afternoon after my digital camera is recharged. I have to give my wife all the credit. She found it. I had walked right by it. Best wife ever, for saving a very important piece of Mean Green history. I know 5 of our All-Century players were on this team (Joe Greene, Steve Ramsey, Cedrick Hardman, Ron Shanklin, and Glen Holloway). Go Mean Green!

  2. Per my mother-in-law there is a softball game today (Saturday) between Mean Green football players and Robson Ranch residents at noon. Robson Ranch softball field. Players will be available to sign autographs for kids afterward. Robson Ranch is a housing development for retirees amd 50+ people off Robson Blvd. 35W coming out of Denton toward Ft Worth. Great community engagement opportunity for our football program.

  7. Reading this thread, I can't help but think of our local hs head coach, Steve Lineweaver, when I saw him at the local Home Depot shortly before the season started a couple of years ago. The conversation was about what kind of season our Trojans would have. He said, "it's such a rough old game, a lot depends on injuries". I really thought Georgia was going to have a great year last season, even when we hung with them well into the second half, but we all saw the effect having key players out with injuries had on them. And this is not to look forward to players getting injured, just to say that it's one of numerous possible reasons that going undefeated may be tougher than it looks on paper. Also, I have a hard time thinking some of the teams that were down last year won't improve this year, especially the Florida teams, USM, and a Rice team that looked pretty darn good at times last year.

  9. And then they got sanctioned for illegal employment of players, academic fraud (providing exams to players), and of course lack of institutional control. They also had to stop recruiting non-qualifiers since they were illegally employing non-qualifiers. That and moving to a CUSA better than the MAC was the end of that era of glory for Marshall.

  10. I don't think C-USA needs any more teams. I like the Texas teams in the west. We don't need Texas State. I like having Southern Miss in the west. They have historically been a strong program, and I believe they will turn it around in the near future. I'm fine with UAB moving to the west. I really like the rivalries UNT, Rice, UTEP, and UTSA can build together. North Texas, Rice, and UTSA had a great race for the western title last season. We need to do more to generate regional media interest in these games. I wish the idea for a traveling Texas throphy would have been adopted last season. It would have provided a running storyline for the sports media in DFW, Houston, and San Antonio. I hope something gets put in place for the upcoming season.

  11. Do you think anyone, especially a Penn St. fan writing for bleacher report, gives 2 craps about the "collateral damage of no marching band?" Seriously? That is just a sad justification that really screams "we want our football and will use any excuse to get it." When Did Bob Costas suddenly become judge and jury in reviewing the evidence? And you do realize this went MUCH higher than the head coach, right? (I will give you that Costas was the interrogator of Sandusky, though). 3 people are indicted for lying about their roles to a grand jury. Pretty much the definition of cover up. Phil Knight? What does his "opinion" matter in this thing?

  14. That's just it...the old CUSA is now the AAC. The new CUSA is just the best of the old SBC. Its just how the ladder goes. If you think any of those AAC teams want anything to do with us, your crazy. Some, UH and SMU, never wanted us in a league to begin with. The others that could leave as soon as possible, ECU, Tulane and Tulsa, did. You have to replace those teams with someone. To me, having two teams in south Florida wasn't too smart, but WKU replaced East Carolina, we replaced SMU, UTSA replaced UH, F_U replaced UCF and USF, and MUTS replaced Memphis. To me, the biggest mistake was taking Charlote and ODU, two teams that should be in the SBC, immediately because ECU wanted them--only to then see ECU bolt out as soon as they could, which was clearly going to happen as soon as possible.

  16. It almost seems like it's intentionally in there - like this story is meant to make you feel both inclusive and a jerk for no real reason. If you fall on the tolerant side, you walk away feeling good, but ready to...yell at an Anglican? If you're on the non-tolerant side, you walk away wondering why this is being celebrated...more than usual. If you're SE-66, you wait 2 days, then just say something pointless. See, there's really something here for everyone.

  17. This is something that goes on a lot at North Texas, but most of us don't get to see it for ourselves. So I thought this was kind of cool. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/houston-head-coach-tony-levine-surprises-walk-on--and-his-mom--with-full-scholarship--video-151951372.html

  19. There are several of us who are also very interested in the "minor" sports and would appreciate the ease of using the "New Content" function. Since we tend to do well in some of these sports on a consistent basis (i.e. tennis, golf, softball, soccer) it would be great for more fans to see these posts if they use the "New Content" function. I hope you will give Mean Green 93-98's request serious consideration.
