UNT women's basketball gets Alvin commitment

Brittani Bailey, a 6-2 post from Alvin, said she has orally committed to play for North Texas beginning in the 2007-08 season.

Bailey averaged 12.8 points and 9.6 rebounds as a junior last season, when she was named an All-District 24-5A first-teamer. Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a recruit in the Class of 2007 can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 7.

Alvin junior Brittani Bailey was selected defensive player of the year. The 6-foot-1 post dominated the paint for the Lady Yellowjackets. She also led the team in scoring and rebounding.

“She was really big for us,” McMinn said. “Brittani changed a ton of shots by blocking or altering them. She also made a lot of steals. She has cat-like quickness and helped us in transition a lot.”
