Call the athletes "employees" if you want to. I don't care. The term student athlete is a farce now anyway.
But I have to ask....if they're employees.....shouldn't their benefits be offered to all other university employees? Shouldn't the guys at The Physical Plant (for example)....be offered free education (if they want it)....room and board, tutoring, and all the other perks that athletes get?
What some of you people call nothing (the scholarship and benefits)......probably adds up to close to $35-40k a year. (I mean....if the search on Google is accurate....and it costs around $26k just for tuition at NT now. Add that and all the other benefits....it'd be up in the 30-thousands.)
Anyway....do whatever you want. I'm a long time fan/donor/season ticket holder. This upcoming season will be last one....where I'm fully involved. Good luck with the system.
Yes this is correct. Ultimately the athletic departments will become the "Employer" and the athletes the "Employee". The only issue I can see being an obstacle at this point is title 9.
When the athletic departments start paying players the NIL money they are in fact are employees. If memory serves one schools in a secondary east coast conference whose name escapes me have their players trying to form a union.
