  1. I think this game and WKU may be the only two wins we get this year, but THIS will be one. NT - 34 FIU - 31 The tie will be broken and game won on a game-ending 45 yard field goal by J-Knott. IF we get blown out one more time, especially at home... the next tie I talk about will be the one I put around my neck and hang myself??? No more freakin blow-outs Isaac, my brother... Joe Miller is out. You gotta come through for the DL this week, or next year I'll have to adopt a player on offense? Did you hear that?....on OFFENSE!!! DONT do that to me.... GMG!!!
  2. Wow? Good post, a little over-reactive maybe... but good. I honestly dont think people have given up? What your reading is their frustration. Everyone who has been on the bandwagon is still on the bandwagon. We will all still be there tailgaiting Saturday, and we will still be in our seats when the game kicks-off. Every season starts off with some horrible a$$ kickings, then we get to conference play and see where we really are? This is no different this year, we just expected to be a little better... maybe a bit more competitive? (The other SBC teams are getting better and we see those scores) As for the DD years, and a new football stadium?.... probably true enough. But, we also got used to winning championships and going to bowl games in those years. Four bad seasons in a row will cause posts like some of the ones you've read. I truly appreciate the "hang in there" mentality you have, and know many of the people on the board are just venting when we have 77 points hung on us. Just because some are frustrated doesnt mean they are giving up? I think if you look around Saturday, you'll see everyone is still there. Now if we lose against FIU, you probably shouldnt read the board on Sunday.... GMG!!!
  3. My thoughts are with you guys, Brad. Let me know if there is anything you or Vicki need. Med
  4. I doubt seriously there was any mud slinging intended... I think there was mostly humor in this one. Every program with a new coach and offensive system gets the growing pains that follow. Hopefully both programs rebound some this season. I predicted four wins this year, and I'm still hoping that's possible. We'll know after the Rice game. (providing Houston is put back together enough for us to play that game there?) GMG!!!
  5. I've watched the SMU defense practice. They are not much better than ours right now. No pass rush to speak of, and the corners play 10 to 12 yards off receivers just like ours are once again doing. They face the JJ run-and-shoot offense every day in practice. They just dont have the horses to hang with Harrell and the four-wide sets. LSU will probably lay 60-plus points on us, but the beating will stop early in the fourth quarter. TTech will keep hanging points on SMU until the final gun sounds, and then they'll attempt a field goal while the fans are leaving the stadium? No love loss between those two programs. Michael Crabtree wants to go pro after this year and needs a break-out game. My guess.... LSU 63 - NT 17 TTech 79 - SMU... one whooped-a$$ bunch of Ponies. GMG!!!
  6. We were up there Tuesday with a co-worker/ SMU Alum to watch practice and heard about this. From what I was told, I dont think Padron will be working out all year, even in the spring. I guessed that was because of medical issues or transfer rules, but I wasnt sure? His name wasnt on a locker... I know that much. I really hope things work out for him there. There was another guy (a JUCO DB - McElroy) who also just joined the program and was great to talk to. June Jones is going after the skilled position guys first, kinda like Todd Dodge did with NT. Makes me wonder what the recruiting battles will shape up for next season??? Seems strange going to another schools practices, but we arent allowed to attend the ones in Denton and SMU is close to us. Good luck Justin... hope all goes well. GMG!!!
  7. Not to sound like a broken record (if you've read Athlon and Dave Campbells..you know the song that's coming), but some things are a given. I try to look outside the box. My guess for success.... 1. Plain and simple... the BLITZ! Everyone knows what we lost in Horton and Gilmore. K-State has a very good offensive line, and we would have been hard pressed to get pressure with Eddie and Horton anyway. Let's stick to the Deloach plan and send a LB or safety on every play. One lucky blitz could equal a turnover. Let's dont get predicatable or conservative as they start to score points? Keep going at them as Coach Deloach did against UT in the "get Simms out of there" game a few years ago. That game ended 27-0 and we got to the QB's a LOT. The formula works if you stick with it. 2. Control QB Josh Freeman... This kid is a runner and gunner. Most believe he is better throwing. He threw last year for over 3000 yards and 18 TD's. We also need to be careful about giving this kid a lane to take off. I suspect Coach Deloach is showing Craig Robertson some K-State game film using the term "like a shadow" . 3. Balance the offense... If K-State has a weakness it is the defensive line. Last year there was really only one guy worth a darn up front, and that is Ian Campbell. A good offensive line should open holes for Mosely and Montgomery. We are obviously a little under-sized on the O-line, but K-State runs the 3-4, and has NO ONE on their DL larger than 280lbs. Keep plugging with the run, and their fantastic secondary (three potential All-Americans) plays closer to the line. Maybe we get lucky and Fitzgerald gets a shot at the end-zone. 4. Field position... K-State brought in a Juco stud to do nothing but return punts. Deon Murphy is the real deal and lightning freakin fast. We cannot give up that kind of field position and stay in this game. We have to pin these guys back as far as we can. Our advantage - Truman Spencer. He can put the ball out of bounds deep and keep it away from Deon Murphy. Nothing is impossible... and we do have the offensive weapons to score on them. If it comes to a track meet, I think we match up and an upset could happen. A win would give us an extra 3 minutes on sports center... MO MONEY, MO MONEY, MO MONEY!!!!! GMG!!!
  8. I like how he jumps on, makes a few comments, then jumps off and let's everyone rant....hehe. THIS is what makes college football awsome. Trash talk is just a part of the competition. This guy isnt as good as some posters we have, (Emmitt, Rob..where are ya?) but he's getting there. Other than the SMU fans who jump on when we play them, we really dont have a lot of this going on anymore? I'm glad someone is geared-up up enough to come on here and light the fire. Glad the season if finally freakin here!!! GMG!!!
  9. He is just smack talking for fun... It's a part of the start of football season. You go after your opponents fans. Emmitt is a PRO at this. We are all just as anxious for our football season to start as this guy is for his. Tulsa has a great team and he's fired up. Remember some of the things we posted in 2003 and 2004??? We owned the Belt back then and said some of the same things. Dont take this stuff too seriously guys, he is just being funny. For the record, I have the Tulsa Game score 38-24 Tulsa wins... but it will be a better game than most prognosticators think. (screw you Mel Kiper) GMG!!! GMG!!!
  10. I heard the "horse-collar" rule was coming. But the rule specifics read somewhat odd? I understand grabbing the neck area from behind is an injury risk, but grabbing the jersey from the side? Not sure how picky the NCAA refs will be on that one. Grabbing the jersey from behind was the only shot one of our little DB's had a making a tackle last year. (at least at OU) It didnt help much, but under the new rules two of those would have likely been penalties? Then again, most of the penalties last year would have been declined anyway... the plays resulted in touchowns. GMG!!!
  11. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! I needed that today!!!! GMG!!!
  12. I know most of you saw it, but I didint see anything posted on the board. Cody Spencer had a monster game versus the Redskins. Right now he is playing second team ILB and special teams. Cody got two sacks, four tackles, and one pass breakup. He was also a wild-man on special teams! Here's to Cobbs, Spencer, and the Mighty Quinn... NT's finest are all looking good so far. Hang in there guys! GMG!!!
  13. Cant be???? He would be 157 years old by now???? Not to mention he had serious trouble passing core classes? Dont get me wrong, everyone who talked to TJ will say what a great kid he is, and that includes me. He was always smiling and gave his best effort to passing, he just couldnt manage it. My thought was that some kids were simply not meant for college level academics? I really hope he has found a way to pass and stay on the field. Good luck TJ...honestly. As a side note, I sure wish we could have found a way to make it work out for him here... That kid was 320 lbs of pure "un-blockable". GMG!!!
  14. Thanks Harry, I had not heard about Special-K being out of the mix at WR? We certainly have enough receivers to fill that spot. GMG!!!
  15. MGBob has a valid point. My brother and nephew purchased season tickets this year to come to Fouts and watch Riley play. (they live in Southlake and my nephew plays football there) I explained that Giovanni Vizza is our starting QB, and Riley may red-shirt? He said the Southlake parents and football fans are buying NT tickets to support Todd, Riley, and Justin Padron at North Texas. (I still cant believe he knows two players on our roster? He is an NT Alum, and this is the first year he has EVER had season tickets for North Texas football, but he has had SLC season tickets for 9 years) He doesnt know how many games he will actually attend, but the SLC parents he talked to are buying NT tickets also this season. As that seems to support what MGBob is saying here, I can see his point. The Denton area people are not as supportive of NT football as the SLC crowd seems to be? As the Dodge-Fans seem more willing to step up and buy tickets, whether Riley plays or not, it appears Southlake has in fact adopted North Texas already. I truly wish the Denton Fans were as dedicated. Welcome to all the Southlake Fans... it's great to have you!!! GMG!!!
  16. Congrats Joey!!! Guess the New Orleans trips will be a bit different next time!!!...hehe GMG!!!
  17. Haha... Pretty funny Matt. The Stadium issue has everyone edgy. I would like to think RV knows things we do not. Maybe we will hear something soon??? GMG!!!
  18. I'll be there. For a little while anyway. I have another place to be at the same time, but cannot miss this thing... it's tradition. I havent missed one of these since Darrell Dickey raved about freshman RB Michael Ruff's speed, and promised us he would open up the offense for the up-coming season. (for the record, that year he probably would have kept his promise... we had an ex-Dallas Cowboys receiver (Kelvin Martin) coaching the WR's, and that year K-Mart was raving about a skinny Freshman WR who ran great routes and had exceptional hands) Guess some things happen for a reason. K-Mart didnt last long here, but Johnny Quinn sure did. See ya at the AC... GMG!!!
  19. 6-5. 235lbs... he could play left offensive tackle? Seriously, this kid appears to be a diamond in the rough. Another year of weights and we somehow get him into the 245-250 range??? Might be something special. I'm just glad we have another body to put into the rotation. From the article, it looks like TD wants Cole to contribute right away. We'll get to see if his speed helps get pressure. I know this wont be popular, but I think I agree with another poster on the board who suggested this might be a good time for the 3-4 defense. This defense would certainly measure up a little better with the losses of Gilmore and Horton. Use the speed and skill in positions where we have it??? DT - Joe Miller NT - Isaac Thomas DT - Draylon Ross OLB - Craig Robertson ILB - Colt Mahan MLB - Tobe Nwigwe OLB - A.J. Penson LCB - Latiff Nurudeen FS - Kartey Agbottah SS - Germaine Dawson RCB - Kylee Hill Practice is only a couple of weeks away, and Gary DeLoach now holds a "Rubik's Cube" of players. We know he is the real deal, but it will take a few spins for the defensive pieces to match up. Here's to hoping his magic works quickly... GMG!!!
  20. I'm probably a mix of 1 and 6. I'm not so sure there is a number for now me since the Gilmore/Horton info hit the board? Not so much a pessimist as freakin embarrassed. I was preaching how we would have the top two defensive ends in the conference? The last time I was this wrong about our team Toby Gowin booted a 99 yard punt. I was the only guy in the stands screamin "Fake punt...RUN TOBY!!!!" GMG!!!
  21. Somebody got tossed out of a game for that????...cant remember who? GMG!!!
  22. Not to trivialize the importance of any player or position on this team, but having a reliable kicker can be the difference between a 4-8 season and a possible 6-6 or 7-5 season. I know Moreland gave his all last year, but I cant remember a season in the past where I repeatedly crossed my fingers on the extra point tries? Kicker - Jeremy Knott will be the big difference maker this year. That kid has a huge leg and will keep us in some close games. I predict he will win a couple of conference games for us as well. I havent predicted a game-winning field goal since the Baz-manian Devil played here, (I think I said Nicki would win them all for us) but I will call for an upset of Kansas State. Jeremy Knott will kick the game winning field goal and mere seconds left on the clock. If App. State can beat Michigan in their house, why not NT in Mahattan??? GMG!!!
  23. I'm in for this one... Fitzgerald - (no brainer) Mosely - (All pre-season publications say he is a difference maker for us this year) Vizza - (most mags say Riley Dodge is in the saddle, but I'll go with a talented QB who showed his metal last season) Drake - (no reason to doubt a center who was our best OL last year) Santiago - (a right guard at over 300 lbs and plays mean... gets my vote) Robertson - (OLB with safety speed, and yes... he WILL be blitzing) Possibles: P-Truman Spencer, DT-Joe Miller, MLB-Tobe Nwigwe, WR-Sam Roberson. GMG!!!
