  1. Yeah, I kinda wondered about that one myself? Not sure where CFN gets their facts, but who really cares. CFN openly champions only those teams in the BCS Conferences. Bad info aside, I have to admit my surprise at being mentioned without the words "unfortunately" or "dissapointing" in the tag lines. At this point, being #99 is slightly better than where I thought they would rank us. Hopefully we win 5 games this year and climb all the way to #98. GMG!!!
  2. http://cfn.scout.com/2/1091742.html Sorry if this has been posted already, I just ran across it. This write-up suggests the CFN people think Coach Mac will make a difference quickly. They are also very high on the potential of Lance Dunbar and his future. I cant believe I'm going to say this, but CFN and I actually agree on something. There's hope. Now, if the Cowboys could just sign a freakin free-agent that wasnt already cut by them?, I might just believe in miracles. I think Deon Sanders said it best.. "You dont get any better by re-hiring guys you already fired.. It makes no sense?" WORD, Deon... WORD. GMG!!!
  3. Wow? That was a lot of acronyms and abbreviations. Try this one.. "Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P." GMG!!!
  4. Terrible news.. Sam was a great kid who was liked by everyone. So sorry to hear this. Prayers for the Dibrell family, and the Mean Green Nation for this horrible loss.
  5. Did anyone else catch that one of our most heralded recruits (Troy Franklinn) is no longer on the roster. He will remain a student at NT but is not on the team? Wasnt Franklinn supposed to be a corner-stone player for the future? I apologize if I am really this far behind on our players, but what happened? Coach Mac is having to make a LOT of changes quickly, and I know that's what we brought him here for. Still, Noble AND Franklinn off the roster.. I think Harry is going to have to suit up and play for Coach Mac this year! So no hitting Harry at the GMG.com Bowl! GMG!!!
  6. Wow.. that's a lot of rules. In years past, I just asked Kurt not to let Pierow jump on me after throwing me to the ground. Should be a lot of fun this year. We have lots of returning scholarship players from the Championship years.. so I'm thinkin I'll call this one "The Farewell to Fouts Autograph Bowl". I'll use the Sharpie Emmitt will have in his sock. GMG!!!
  7. Wow.. that was quite a monologue. I was thinking "Emmitt has a new screen name?"... but I knew it wasnt him. UT didnt get a black-eye at the end of it... Just remember to sign your posts "Bored in Houston" so we'll know it's you. GMG!!!
  8. In at Emmitt's tailgate. Will have two Irving-MacArthur Varsity FB players in tow. I told my son to come watch the beginning of a new era in NT Football. I hope things go better for us than the last time I told him that. Just sayin... GMG!!!
  9. It's been a while, but I'm in. Height: 6'-ish... Weight: 180..ish Shirt: L 40 time: Varies on what's in my cup.. Rum = I'm faster, Beer = I'm slower, Tarantula = I think all of you are more attractive or funny. Skillset: Great hands and decent arm. Once held the Presidential Award for Physical Fitness.. Wansnt mine, but I did hold it. Veteran of the "GMG Bowl Games" of the past. Darrell Dickey once came to a GMG game and watched me play QB. After the game he slapped me on the shoulder and said "Good game Med, sorry for yelling all those obscenities at you". I said "Coach, I didnt hear you yell anything ugly?" He replied "really?, well next year I'll yell from the Alumni Side of Fouts Field". I will also donate a Andrew Smith Framed watercolor. Those who got them in the past, or saw them at the GMG Bowls know about them. I had several made, including the one I gave Andrew Smith's Parents years ago. Should be a lot of fun... I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out there again. GMG!!!
  10. I have to admit this idea is a good one. If we went to a Bowl game and played K-State we would all be thrilled. Ending the Fouts Legacy with a Bowl-game type atmosphere works for me. Harry, how about making this the Unofficial "GoMeanGreen.com" Bowl for this year? All board posters show with GMG Bowl shirts from the past games? Count me in.. GMG!!!
  11. Uh? Not sure I read that right. Dodge was a class act, and proved as much as he exited the cockpit. Still, the bulk of the parts on this plane were selected and installed by him? Take off in a jet, land in a crop duster? I dont think so... GMG!!!
  12. This may be one of the strangest threads I've ever read here? We got over DD's firing pretty quickly, and he scorched enough earth to make the Romans envious? I'm for moving on and forgetting all the ugly days. Chico is 2-1 so far, and I'll bet he's just getting the Green Machine rolling. He's certainly experienced enough, and cares enough to be our HC if the Gods decide it should be so. He was also smart enough to marry a brilliant and hot blonde!... THAT gets him another year in my book... (Oh, uh?..Carol, if you're reading this... you can kick me in the shin at the next home game. Thanks again for the shirt!) GMG!!!
  13. As parents we try to instill the ideals of "character" when we raise our kids. My son idolized an Ex-UNT player (Blake Burruss) who was a shining example of character. I think that probably helped the way he sees football now. High school football players are overly competitive by nature. I know, my son is one of them. I have explained to him many times why you dont dance in the end zone after a touchdown catch, or point at a player who isnt doing so well. I think he understands, but teenagers are fond of the spotlight and attention. Most high school athletes are practicing their end-zone celebrations, or trying to be noticed on the field. One of Chris' MAC teammates did an "airborne full-flip" while crossing the goal-line during the North Richland Hills game two weeks ago. I was shocked he wasnt hurt when he landed? He drew a penalty for it, and didnt seem to care. Of course it's not completely his fault. High profile athletes get money and fame, and it's all about ME ME ME. Kids are not blind to the reality of being a sports star. I was beginning to wonder what my son must think when he sees his fellow teammates show off, and he hears me in his head saying "character..character..character". After watching this news clip, I can tell the right message is getting to some of our kids. It showed a great deal of character for those defensive players to let that special young man have his moment. I rarely see examples like that anymore. Judging from this video clip, there are still student athletes out there who believe a good deed is more important than numbers on a scoreboard... and that truly gives me hope. GMG!!!
  14. What do I want in a new HC? Just one word.. COURAGE, FORTITUDE, DESIRE, GUTS! I would ask for a win, but let's not put that kind of pressure on him right out of the gates... Let's make a field goal! GMG!!!
  15. Classic movies can send a message when things get this bad.. "I cant believe it? I tell ya, I'm having the worst game of my life!" "Oh come on now, dont be so hard on yourself.. your really not...uh?... not good. You stink.." GMG!!!
  16. Questions.. too many questions. I think we are finally at the cross-roads with this team, just like one during the 2001 season. Many of us didnt give DD or that 2001 team a shot at winning against MTSU. Dustin Dean told me they started winning because they felt they had to save Darrell Dickey's job... even though DD told them not to think about that. I wonder what it takes for a team to play like that BEFORE the axe gets sharpened? I had hoped the Rice game would be a "MUTS-like" turn-around. These players gave everything they had in the Rice game, and I was proud of the fight they put up, but did they believe they could win? I honestly now think the difference in this team and DD's old teams must be coaching. I know we still have issues with kicking, dropped balls and etc..., but there has to be something else missing? Do we have as much or more talent on the field today than we did back then? DD wasnt a fan of closed practices and secret plays. He convinced his players to step up and show everyone they could win, no matter who's watching or the distractions. The fans and Alums stood right next to those players on the practice fields for all of those years. The coaches understood everyone played a part in that team's success, and we all felt like we were a part. Jamario Thomas once ran a sweep right into the alums on the sideline during practice, then looked up at us and said "That'll be a touchdown in Colorado!" We laughed, but we also believed him. We believed because he believed. Darrell Dickey certainly had his flaws. We all know what happened at the end, and how he exited this program. My point is that it was the head coach who motivated players like Chris Hurd(walk-on), Brandon Kenndy(too short), Darrell Daniels(under-sized), Kevin Galbreath(no break-away speed), Scott Hall(other recruiters considerred him a safety), Patrick Cobbs (too small) and others to play with heart and grit every down. None of those guys were five-star athletes, but ALL of those guys were very successful under Dickey. That is a head coach who knew something. THAT something is what is missing from this team. Is that something tha can be taught?, or do we fall under the "we are who we are" banner? I guess we'll know more tomorrow afternoon, one way or another. Still too many questions... GMG!!!
  17. The camo uni's are no good anyway.. we can still see you. Army 39 - NT 24. Riley Dodge is back in the saddle in the second half. (sorry, but this IS a prediction thread?) GMG!!!
  18. Just guesses like everyone else.. but why not? Clemson: 44 - 20 (L)- NT Defense is overwhelmed, but show signs of improvement. Rice: 38 - 24 (L)- Late comeback insnt enough, but Thompson improving. Army: 35 - 28 (L)- Still no answer for Army, but stay close in game. FAU: 31 - 14 (W)- NT due for win against Schnellenberger. Dunbar runs for 250. ULL: 35 - 27 (W)- Cajuns play tough game, NT Defense makes difference late. ASU: 35 - 24 (L)- 1st half lead hurts. NT secondary "bends" too much. FIU: 38 - 21 (W)- FIU is on the rise, but has no answer for Dunbar. WKU: 42 - 17 (W)- Blowout game. Hilltopper mistakes are NT opportunities. Troy: 38 - 20 (L)- Good game from Thompson, but NT Defense struggles against pass. MTSU: 45 - 14 (L)- The MUTS are likely SBC Champs. Too strong on both sides of ball ULM: 38 - 28 (L)- Dunbar and Thompson do well, NT secondary struggles but competes. K.State 45 - 14 (L)- Wildcats Bowl eligible,Dunbar gets NT single season rush record. Season outcome: NT goes 4-8. Lance Dunbar, Tyler Stradford, Kelvin Drake - 1st Team All-SBC, Derek Thompson, Jamaal Jackson, Tevin Cantly, and Craig Roberston - 2nd Team All-Sunbelt.
  19. Dodge out, Brad Kassell in as H.C. (not an unreal possibility..it worked for Jack Del Rio?), Derek Thompson in the saddle at QB,(last season's QB had 15 int's... I'll take the UNDER on Thompson) we join Conference USA and have a realistic rivalry with JJ and the Ponies.(and we are STILL their biggest draw at Ford) Road games closer and not so expensive. We also get to WATCH our team scrimmage and practice. Coach Kassell would be ticked if we WERENT there for the team! See ya in August... GMG!!!
  20. "Here's UNT's spring football schedule. The spring game will be on the 11th at 3 p.m. at Fouts Field. The note I received only indicated that practice is open for media types to watch. I didn't ask specifically, but I believe that fans are allowed to watch from outside the fence as well.".. Brett Vito From outside the fence, if at all? I have just about had it with this non-sense. Am I really going out on a limb here?...closed practices have done NOTHING to help this program in three straight seasons, and we going back to it for season four? Let the freakin fans and Alums watch their team, PLEASE! June Jones had no problem allowing us to watch SMU practice this past season, and they won? I am still not allowed to watch my own team? Really, at 5-31? If we were winning conference titles every year and the "double-secret probation" thing was working, fine.. but it's NOT WORKING. The last coach who allowed us watch OUR team won FOUR conference titles and took us to FOUR straight bowl games. We were allowed right there on the field with those guys, and they were winning. Note to coaches.. THAT was WORKING. Good luck finding a fan selling the UNT playbook on the internet.. Give me a freakin break. Rick V., please finally do something about this. GMG!!! PS: Apologiies to you guys for my whining. I dont post often these days, but "Come on Man???"
  21. Count me in for that road trip...Ha! Emmitt has to go too. Flanny LOVED him some Emmitt. We could hold up big blank white posters with nothing on them. When their fans asks us what that means?, we tell them. "We dont draw, and by this time next year, you'll wish Flannigan didnt either..." GMG!!!
  22. Now THAT was freakin funny! "I'm supposed to be a franchise player, we're talkin bout practicing".... HAHAHA!!!! GMG!!!
  23. I bet this thread makes Q's monday recap. Now we need Playmaker to wager on the seven wins TD has to come up with next season? I dont think we see that bet... Coach Briles, dont start thinkin crazy? No one moves from Waco to Lubbock? "COME ON MAN"... just wait for us please? Hold on for one more season. GMG!!!
  24. Whoa!!! Emmitt thinks Mack Brown SHOULD get the money? It's official... the end of the world is coming! His opinion could of waited until 2012 so the Mayan predictions all came true. Leave it to Emmitt to "one up" the Mayans!!!!....hehe GMG!!!
  25. Weatherby was 6-6 and got fired? We havent won 6 games in three years? I would kill to just be bowl eligible? Weatherby will get a gig pretty quick somewhere.. How far have we really fallen???? GMG!!!
