The problem with the North Texas chant is its not original at all. It'd be great to have something that ends with U-N-T Eagles! Fight! Fight! Fight! since that's already in our DNA EDIT: love the spirit coordinator idea. This stuff doesn't happen organically anymore, it's gotta be choreographed/manufactured and that's okay. Won't take too many years to feel like a legitimate tradition.

Sigma Chi at North Texas gave me so much. The entire purpose of existing officially is "to cultivate and maintain the high ideals of friendship, justice, and learning"...we definitely lived by those values as a chapter, as do most Sigma Chi chapters in my experience. It is completely understandable that people view greek organizations so negatively...the media really loves these stories. And no doubt, in many cases the reputation may be earned by certain members...but as a previous poster mentioned, that type of behavior is not exclusive to fraternities. I haven't read much on the story since the initial reports, but I think I remember this was off campus at the apartment that belonged to no more than 5 guys...not exactly representative of the fraternity as a whole. If you have to direct frustration with greeks somewhere, please be sure you direct it to those deserving, not those who do so much good in the community. I can promise you, you can be proud of North Texas' Sigma Chi chapter. Here are the standards by which membership is extended, which is taken very seriously by the NT chapter: "The standard with which the Fraternity started was declared by Isaac M. Jordan to be that of admitting no man to membership in Sigma Chi who is not believed to be: A man of good character … A student of fair ability … With ambitious purposes … A congenial disposition … Possessed of good morals … Having a high sense of honor and A deep sense of personal responsibility."
