In evaluation, Smatresk gets good marks from Jackson
UNTLifer replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow. Don't you think the budget issue that he inherited had something to do with this? Jackson is worthless and it appears passing the buck for a advertising campaign that began under his watch and inherited by Smatresk. Maybe Lee F. Jackson should look in the mirror. -
Three Things I Hope Happen This Weekend
UNTLifer replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Well, there is hope for #3, but I ain't holding my breath. -
I have always given credit to RV for finally being an AD that provided our student athletes with the facilities they deserved, but he has worn out his welcome. To top off his recent failures with the obvious lack of direction in the department, the continuous problems I had renewing my MGC membership the last few years only to have KRA, appreciated but not his job, step in and make some calls to correct the issue and the lack of a service mentality in the ticket office with no obvious sense of urgency to correct these issues by refusing to return your beat writer's phone calls regarding the status of the Men's Head Basketball Coach points to a leaderless department and an unprofessional AD. He has gone from addressing his most hardcore fans by posting on here, usually returning calls and emails in a timely manner and playing "Lil' Jerrah" by standing on the field during games to burying his head in the sand or holing up in his bunker on Bonnie Brae. Why Smatresk and the BOR put up with this is beyond me, but I am done with it. Add to this the multiple lies, poor scheduling after being told Apogee would allow an improvement in this area, zero quarterly meetings for the MGC that he promised, etc.... has soured me on the one team I truly follow. As stated, I will see how Littrell does and make some games this year, but giving to this AD under RV's direction is done as are my football season tickets.

Rick Villarreal lies about basketball accountability
UNTLifer replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Wrong! RV amd Benford suck. -
Benford has guided us to many memorable wins including beating La Tech this year. Man, that was one to put in the history books. And do not forget, he will havema chance to add to that earth shattering win next year. Me, I will follow SFA. RV not even speaking about this is the definition of chicken shit. He should be the leader of this department, but does nothing but exhibit leaderless skills. I will follow the football program, will not renew my MGC membership and will give to my family's scholarship only. Tickets will be easy to come by at Apogee.
-
And I doubt any of these occur. 1. Benford is fired along with RV. 2. Benford quits and accepts an assignment in the AD for his last year. 3. Benford stays with the agreement that if we don't win 20 games and advance to the NCAA's, he and RV are gone at the end of 17'. Again, doubt any of this happens since NOBODY IN THE ENTIRE UNT ADMINISTRATION has any balls. Please change our name to the UNT Geldings.

St. Patrick's Day Lower Greenville - Saturday March 19th

Please don't use CAW CAW. Eagles don't CAW! -
I think the "culture" that this article is alluding to is work ethic. It appears that this portion of the culture drop off significantly after Wintrich left for BYU. I think he instilled a work ethic in the young men and it was the highway if they didn't keep up. Based upon the combine results of some of our young men during his tenure, I don't know if his lifting methods were effective, at least regarding how the NFL measurements are tabulated, but he seemed to get the team to work hard.

Lance Dunbar meeting with 49ers today.

In Chicago today. -
I could coach this team to a 10-20 record, and I would do it for $100k less.
-
Love all of the over the top comments based on an article full of the author's speculation. Know what's wrong with America today? People jumping to conclusions before the facts play out. Watch the new "30 for 30" on the Duke lacrosse team for Exhibit A.

Just a brain fart, I guess! I meant 3/18.

What will it take for a leadership change
UNTLifer replied to GrandGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Quick question: Can anyone name this mythical "17?" -
Lost 5-1 and got swept by a weak team. How in the world do we go to Baylor and win a tournament and then lay this egg?

Lot's of speculation in this post. -
Kind of like it was here?
-
My prediction: They are working out the financials and will announce this next Friday, 3/12, that Benford is gone.
-
And just illustrates the failures of this AD and the Mean Green Club leadership to properly manage and grow the MGC.
-
I think the extension is much deserved considering the financial mess he inherited, addressed and corrected. Yes, we need to fix the AD but he is the president of an academic institution and those issues were deservedly more important. Why do people refer to RV as coach?
-
I wish him the best. A nice young man and a great representative of UNT that deserves much better than Cleveland.
-
True and we aren't facing the OT's they are. A 250 lb. DE in CUSA is fine. Back on topic. McNair never showed anything, so I won't miss anything.
-
Makes too much sense plus La Tech will never be in a conference with ULM and ULL, and honestly, I don't want to be reunited with ULM.
-
You left off two of our players: DE Joseph Ozougwu, who is now reported to be up to 230 lbs. and Bryce English. Plus, I think the weight comparison for DE's is ridiculous. Top professional DE's are usually 250-280 range and two of the best, Von Miller and Khalil Mack weigh in at 249 and 247 lbs.
