  1. Maybe they should hire coaches that teach proper tackling technique.
  2. The point is that you will stretch any topic to include your RV rant. Take it to that thread.
  3. You'll do anything to change the subject back to RV, won't you?
  4. Based on what you posted above, it would not matter is we had hired someone with HC experience or another P5 assistant. RV has a lot of faults, but I don't think Littrell's situation is nearly as dire as you do based upon the following: 1. Our recruiting budget is fine. 2. Apogee 3. Athletic Center 4. Assistant Coaches/Salaries 5. Winnable schedule. 6. The players mainly choose a school based upon their relationship with the coaching staff and Littrell is proving he can build these relationships. Plus, these young men spend the majority of their time with the coaching staff not the AD. I think the major components to make this program successful are in place.
  5. I might throw Army in there also. I know this is terribly optimistic, but coming out of OOC with a 3-1 record would be huge.
  6. About as comparable as being a P5 assistant at Ohio State vs. An assistant at UNC. Either way, UH chose a successful P5 assistant as did we.
  7. You mean to tell me that UH hired a P5 assistant over a coach with head coaching experience and have found success? Did they even look at Willke Fritz or the ghost of Woodie Hayes!? Hell must be freezing over.
  8. I don't think they have to say, "Apogee will allow us to bring Van Halen, ACDC, Pat Boone, Ely Young Band, etc...." for the comment to be relevant. He said concerts. They came down on the price after initially pricing the stadium out of the market.
  9. KRAM, I fully appreciate all that you do for the department and UNT as a whole, but RV's message when selling Apogee and what has been delivered are entirely two different things. I probably would not attend a big concert due to where I live, but we were told Apogee would host concerts. Not an add-on to the spring game and not a one time concert, but concerts. The message was these would be stand alone events or post game events. One, post spring game concert by a band a some know of was not the promise. Name acts were what was alluded to during the promotional talk. We were told scheduling would be better. I like the SMU and Army series, but outside of Houston and Indiana, nothing else has been delivered. The annual Kiwanis fireworks show is a stretch since it was already hosted at Fouts and would be held at UNT's stadium because that is where it has been held forever. High school games are becoming more common, but originally, the message was that Apogee was priced out of the market by our AD. That falls on the AD. I love Apogee, but it is a stretch to say that RV has delivered on his promises.
  10. I know who is making the money off of these bowl games, but it is ridiculous that we are now rewarding teams for .500 seasons.
  11. Just waiting on the reports of your basketball coach nailing some waitress in a café after hours?
  12. But this is the "Everybody Gets a Participation Ribbon" era. We can't have anyone being sad and thinking the only way to change that sad feeling is to put more work in to succeed.
  13. I was in school and bartending at the old Trail Dust out on east 380 during this time. The cast would come in on Sunday evenings and eat and hang out. They had one of their parties out there one Sunday night, and asked if we would stay open later since the place shut down at 10pm on Sundays. They pooled money and paid the band to stay and tipped the wait staff and myself very nicely for working extra. The best part of this was that Kathy Ireland did not drink, so she walks up to the side of the bar and asks me if it is alright if she stands there while the rest of the group is getting rowdy. I was the same as FFR, after looking at her in SI and having one of her posters at home, I think I mumbled something that was inaudible but shook my head yes. She just smiled, stuck out her hand and said, "Hi, I'm Kathy what's your name?" She was extremely nice and down to earth. Actually, all that I came in contact with were great although Jason Bateman was a little full of himself at that time. My second favorite memory was arriving for my first class of the day at the PEB only to have to wait while they shot the opening scene where the previous, scandal ridden coach is escorted to a waiting vehicle amongst a throng of media. They must have shot that little scene 20 times causing me to miss half of class.

  15. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/186237 This also shows him as signing his LOI with SELA. Scout also shows him signing his LOI. Wonder what the story is here.
  16. I would be curious if he has the ability to move to safety. His defensive highlights and tackling ability are impressive, but he is too small to play LB.
  17. I would bet both of those young men will be on the DL since they are also listed there.
  18. My guess would be Ekeler. Being from Georgia, I bet he has a number of Florida connections.
  19. Full Disclosure prior to this post: 1. I am tired of coming on here and every post being turned in to an anti-RV tirade by a select few. Even more tired of the tone of responses to those that don't share the same zealous level of hate. 2. I do believe it is time for RV to go. He has done what he can do with this program and it is time to find someone new with fresh ideas, etc... 3. Thank you for sharing this article, as I, and I would assume many others, had not seen nor read this. It is infuriating to read those responses and how they reflect his attitude towards those that support this school. 4. Denny Kalk is not some "fan from San Antonio." Sorry KRAM, but if I were a reporter writing this story, I would look to long term supporters of the program for insight. It would be glaring to discover an alumni that had given thousands upon thousands of dollars to the program during the Fouts' era when hardly anyone else gave anything suddenly stop giving at his historical levels. His quotes speak loudly about the state of how things are being run. 5. I get the sense that RV is trying to play this off as having his hands tied by administration until Smatresk arrived and now he can really do what he wants. Sorry, while it is true the administration does provide direction, placing all of your failures at their feet for 14 years and then stating "just watch me now" is too little too late. 6. RV was very clear with everyone during the fundraising for Apogee that the new stadium would solve scheduling problems, be a source of revenue for the department through hosting high school playoff games and also allow concerts, etc... to be held there. While the HS games have increased slightly, nothing else has been delivered. I choose to not pour gas on the fire by turning every topic into an RV roast on here. I mainly come to this site to get information on our sports teams, recruiting news, etc... I don't come to see every post turned towards the AD's shortcomings. Make a thread such as this and have at it. That way, I can come read this in this thread or not. I will also state that I live 5 hours away and usually make every home game and have had season tickets the last couple of years. I will probably choose to give up my season tickets and just buy at the gate or from people that are not using theirs and direct my donations to a scholarship fund at UNT in my father's memory. If any of you that are giving up your donations and season tickets would like to donate to that scholarship fund, just send me a PM and I will provide you with a link. Finally, this article is extremely disheartening and if it does bring you concern, then you are blind as to what is going on in that department under this person's leadership. A few of you say things are changing, etc... Provide specifics or just be quiet, because RV's answers to the questions in this article should tell you all you need to know. RV must be replaced.
  20. Time will tell, but a change has to be made. If one isn't made, then Smatresk has to go public and explain why. If not, the silence will kill the department and fundraising and alumni engagement will decline in all areas.
  21. Or, Smatresk is professional and does not air the dirty laundry in public. Time will tell because RV should be gone along with Benford at the end of basketball season.
