  1. Nice attempt at spinning the situation. Of course many on this site will find peace knowing that others out there are losers as well. Losers love company, right? Hey cheer up!! Look, we aren't the only losers. Nice diversion though. Should keep the kids from focusing on the real problem at least for awhile.
  2. The condescending, manipulative and controlling rhetoric directed at the UNT faithful by this Athletic Department over the years needs to stop and it needs to stop now. It's insulting for everyone who holds a degree from the University of North Texas to be constantly schooled by this Athletic Department year in and year out about how difficult it is to be successful at UNT while they smile and pad their pockets with pay increases and extended contracts. With all due respect Mr. Villarreal but unless mediocrity was your goal over the last ten years you have failed. We need to know the percent of increase or decrease of season ticket holders per year since you took over the program. The same goes for the MGC membership. We need to see your marketing plan and business plan as well. Your questionable hires of coaches over the years, locking our cash poor University into long term one-sided contracts has doomed our football program to years of failure. Mr. McCarney. Fancy slogans, bold declarations and a big BCS ring are all nice but actions will always speak louder than words. I appreciate your effort and your enthusiasm over the last four year but yesterday you publicly announced that you have failed. Many of us who have followed the program over the last 44 years have heard "all" the excuses. We are tired of being brainwashed into believing how impossible or difficult it is to succeed at UNT all the while we witness other schools with far less in assets proving you and others in the Atheltic Department wrong. Its really insulting to the players you recruited, the fans you wish to show up on game day, MGC members and the University that writes your paycheck. The proper and honorable action for the both of you is to tender your resignations thereby releasing this University and the UNT faithful from its financial burden so this program can seek and hire individuals who understand business and how to be successful regardless of the circumstances and without making excuses.
  3. Not really advocating that we fire Mac but trying to say we don't have the ability should we see the need in the near future. I guess I didn't do a very good job expressing that. However, we do need a change at the AD position.
  4. Why not North Texas? Because we have an AD who consistently makes wrong hires and then foolishly signs them to one sided long term contracts at a salary level our cash poor University cannot afford to buy out thereby dooming the programs to years of failure only to repeat the cycle years later after their contracts expire. Its very obvious Mac has not been able to recruit well while here at UNT. People this is his "fourth" year and the results are unacceptable. But we are stuck with him because our AD hastily signed him to a new contract with a hefty pay raise without seeing first if he could sustain the success he had in 2013. This is bad business. Its getting difficult to justify investing hard earned money in a losing venture year after year. Its a bad investment regardless how the AD spins the benefits. Remember he is making a very nice salary himself with no accountability.
  5. If there are any playmakers sitting on the bench wearing a red shirt it would behoove the coaching staff to get them on the field now. There may not be a football season next year. It's very possible that even this year could be suspended with what's going on in the world today. Go for it all now while you still have the opportunity for tomorrow you may not. Don't waste that talent in hopes of having a good team next year. Next year may not happen.
  6. "not as talented" And who's fault is that, Mac? What have you been doing for the last four years? Certainly you knew you would have to replace Dodge's recruits one day. Must be nice to be able to publicly admit you didn't recruit well the last four years after just getting a raise and contract extension. Look, we all like getting behind a good slogan, "why not North Texas" but your admission that we aren't as talented this year begs the question to be asked, "this is just the beginning of what?"
  7. Empty stadiums will always hurt the perception of the conference regardless of the teams success on the field.
  8. Absolutely. Shows the panic of the CUSA commissioner. Should have invited ULL first over LTech and then the conference could have approached LTech and asked, "well do you want in or not?" Would have made a far better and more respected conference for sure. Too late.
  9. Amen!! It just makes him look more inept as a head coach. Seems UTSA didn't miss a beat after losing Sosa. Actions speak LOUDER than words, coach.
  10. UT OH! The secret of the rapid rise and success of UTSA's football program is now out in the open for all to see and that includes the ACLU.
  11. Whoa Whoa Whoa!! Hey this is OUR school, OUR University not RV's or Benfords. They are "only" employees, not alumni, and everyone needs to recognize and understand that and as such these people need to be held ACCOUNTABLE to us for the decisions they make because those decisions directly affect us and the image of OUR University. When a basketball coach makes more money in two years than my family makes in almost a decade and I am suppose to buy season tickets, attend games, recruit fans, etc. then I want winning results for my investment of time and money. And you should too! If not for the money then for the pride you have for the University. Not three or four years down the road and not for only a year or two. And when people on the payroll make "poor decisions" they need to be held accountable! Its disturbs me to read comments on this board that if we all pitch in so much money maybe we can buy out Benford's contract. What? Why should we all pay for someone elses poor decisions? For example, lets restructure the contracts of those responsible so we can fire Benford now. If they don't like it they can hit the highway. This acquiescent attitude so many of us have really needs to stop. This is OUR University. Stand up, comb your hair, straighten your tie and demand that those making the decisions and the money be held accountable!!
  12. Yep! And don't see it getting any better unless there is a miracle. There will never be any connection, a bond between the fans and players who are here one, two years and gone. Benford's teams will never be our team. They may wear the green and white but they will only be playing for themselves and never the school, students or alumni. What a mess!!!
  13. Harry, just remember that no one forces anyone to play college football.
  14. I can guarantee that if this mushrooms into the law of the land I will be finished with supporting UNT athletics and following college sports. No more Mean Green Club donations and no more season tickets. I am already having a difficult time justifying the money we spend now so when college athletes start getting paid to boot its time to walk away.
  15. Thanks Rick. The fact that I don't remember hearing anything about Kasper being considered or his name even being mentioned by this current Athletic Department during the search makes me tend to believe your source. It goes against all common sense and logic that an alumnus who happens to be a "head coach" with proven success would not want or would not be interested in coming home to his Alma Mater. I know next season is a bit off, but I don't think I can justify spending $720 on season tickets simply on RV's endoresment of this current basketball coach. Whats the old saying, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
  16. This is not a private entity. We hear about coaches being hired and fired all the time and the reasons why. We just recently read details of Mac's contract extension and the reasons why we lost a few assistant coaches. Look, was Kasper even considered for the job? I dont remember his name ever being mentioned. Do any of you? Was he even approached? Do any of you know? If so, what happened? Did I just flat out miss the whole process concerning Kasper? I really don't think that is asking too much.
  17. We deserve to know "ALL" the circumstances concerning Danny Kasper and the recent opening at UNT for a head basketball coach. PERIOD!
  18. I will always have some of the best memories of Hot Springs. The scenery, the walking between courts during halftimes to watch other games and the year we beat Troy for the title and of course Lucky"s to name a few. But I must say I think Karl Benson trumped Banowsky and CUSA when he not only moved the SBC Tournament to New Orleans but moved back the starting date as well and then positioning the Championship game on the day of the NCAA Tournament Selection for greater exposure. NIce move!! But that's not all. The venue was really nice. The Sun Belt logo at center court looked great and promoted the conference with class and the brightness, colors and high defintion on TWC gave the Sun Belt the perception of a first class basketball conference. The announcers did a great job as well. I think Karl Benson just schooled Britton Banowsky and CUSA.
  19. How much does Benford make? Does anyone know the terms of his contract? Just really curious.
  20. Why are we practicing in the Old Men's gym and not the new facility at Mean Green Village?
  21. Yeah between the fracking (earthquakes) and boomer going off after every score (shaking the stadium) one has to wonder about the structural safety of Apogee. And who's to promise there won't be a massive explosion over there? Carry on. Merry Christmas! Go Mean Green!!
  22. I'm not sure about this hire. Being pro-athletics in Nevada or any other state is one thing but this is Texas and he has ties to Texas(ut) and I remember the last three individuals who worked for UNT with ut ties and it was BAD. Helwig, Trilli and Dodge darn near distroyed our program. I don't like the hire at all but I hope for the best for our University. It shouldn't take long to know his true feelings about UNT, both academics and athletics. If you see orange showing up anywhere on campus................................
