  1. Well that's exactly what this head coach did in Tulsa several years ago. In fact, Mac started his tenure here by bad mouthing the size, speed and athleticism of the players he was left with from the former regime. However, he did go on to say during that radio show he was committed to winning and would play the best players on the team. So believing Mac I made hotel reservations and made the five hour drive to see the Mean Green battle the Hurricane "Where's Thompson?" everyone was asking in the stands as McNulty ran onto the field with the offense. "Oh he's hurt" came the response from several of the MG fans. What? Well then why the heck is McNulty starting and not Osborn? Remember Osborn took over for Thompson on one drive at Alabama in front of 90,000 hostile fans and promptly move the team down the field into scoring position against the number one defense in the nation only to be replaced by a freshman named McNulty who then quickly move the team out of scoring position. McNulty was embarrassing throwing TWO picks for 12 points and still no Osborn until late in the second half when the game was over and we got our asses kicked. I believe Osborn quickly took the team to two TD's only to be dismissed by Mac. Osborn never made it on the field the rest of his time at UNT. As I was leaving the hotel early the next morning there was a gentleman out front wearing a North Texas sweatshirt. "Where you from", I asked. "Iowa", he said with a smirk. I've always wondered if that was McNulty"s dad and that our head coach knowing Thompson was not going to play called his good friend to come on down to the game and he would play his son. I don't think D. Williams ever had a honest chance playing here. I have never listened to another radio show.
  2. The Fry years will always be the benchmark I use to compare the success of our football program and likewise the Blakeley years for our basketball program. Thats when D1 was truely D1 and our success under these gentlemen on the field or on the court was legit. We were the real deal.
  3. Sad news. My prayers go out to the family.
  4. We have every right and reason to know the terms of the buy out. Bad hiring decisions are costing the program way too much money, years of losing seasons and fan apathy. I don't think any wise person would invest in any company without getting as many facts as possible. Hey, I appreciate those with the big bucks who can and are willing to help clean up someone else's mess but in reality all you are really doing is keeping the program on life support. We aren't advancing. We aren't improving. Like I said Peterson is only the symptom of a much larger problem.
  5. Unfortunately Peterson was only a symptom of a much larger problem. Everyone should know you can never eliminate the problem by attacking the symptom. You have to go after the problem.
  6. I would get a bid on having the decorative concrete that is on the wall along the walkway separating the lower and upper bowls removed. It may look nice but it takes up way too much space and makes an already narrow walkway even more restricted even when entertaining smaller crowds.
  7. I was there too. My date and I sat on the last row at the top. The place was packed. People were indeed sitting on the steps. It was standing room only. The atmosphere was second to none. I wish others who have walked down the corridor of years could have or might one day be able to experience that Big Time atmosphere at the Super Pit for North Texas Basketball. What I remember most was the noise. It was deafening. Maybe the sound was rising to the top of the Pit, I don't know, but it really didn't subside much at halftime. I remember walking out exit D after the game and the first thing I noticed was the quietness. I think that night damaged my hearing. Maybe it will happen again? Maybe one day.
  8. Damn shame to see that shining state-of-the-art facility sitting there empty for most of the year. The bare minimum is SIX North Texas home games. There is absolutely no excuse for anything else. If scheduling football games is the absolute worse thing this AD does then hiring competent coaches for the major income producing sports has to be a very very close second. Either way as much as like RV and appreciate his effort over the years I like so many others believe it is time for him to step aside.
  9. Absolutely! Best and most relevant post in this thread. Thank you! You nailed it. For this reason alone its time for RV to move on. I would be ashamed and embarrassed to show myself on campus, to meet with donors, fans, students and alumni if I were RV. In fact, he probably is by simply not disclosing the season tickets sales over the last 14 years and padding the attendance figures for athletic events. There comes a point in time, and we very well may be there, that the state and goals of UNT Athletics becomes a moral issue. I think we are already there.
  10. But wait? Wouldn't a competent AD, one who possessed business knowledge, wisdom, understanding and foresight, written the language properly the first time? Running a pizza parlor is nothing compared to heading up a D1 Athletic Department. Sorry
  11. Oh, I'm sure that rv had everything to do with the V shape endzone. Other than using the efforts and money of others to build him a lasting monument and handing out UNT T-shirts on campus and basically running our Athletic Department as if it were a Boy and Girls club and not an Athletic Department, well........................................ Hey, trivia question. After JJ had secured his 200th win by defeating Arkansas St at the Super Pit, and RV grabbed the mic as they both headed out near center court.......................what were the very first words that came out of rv's mouth? Anyone?
  12. Absolutely correct. Also concerning mac's comment; remember this is coming from an individual who specializes in excuses. How can any loyal UNT fan ever forget the time mac publicly labeled North Texas as a difficult place to recruit to in order to cover his failure at recruiting. What a guy! This is just another example of the "good ole boys" covering each others ass. It's an insult to all who care about and love UNT.
  13. Unacceptable. After 15 years it's way past the time for change!!
  14. I don't think we beat SMU again during the remainder of the series. Not with our current head coach. I hope I'm wrong. It does amaze me however how many on this board think the glory days of smu athletics are a thing of the past. No way.
  15. Hey I will always support and be proud of all the athletes that represent UNT with honor and dignity. However not really sure DT deserves to be in the North Texas Hall of Fame. BUT, I really wish Veto would spend less time reporting on potential Hall of Fame candidates and more time on important issues like finding out what our season ticket sales have been each year since RV took over as Athletic Director. Yeah, yeah, I know it would more than likely cost him his job if he forced the issue with this regime. But all of us who love our school need to start applying pressure on this Administration to hold employees accountable for their performance. If we don't we can expect more of the same ole rhetoric and mediocrity in the years ahead.
  16. "it sounds like a mess down there" Vito referring to the situation at Southern Miss. No kidding Veto. I'm so glad we don't have serious issues with our athletic department and our programs. Praise the Lord!
  17. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that NDSU lost 22 seniors last year as well as their Head Coach and somehow still managed to win their FOURTH National Title in a row. What say you Mac? What was that? "North Texas is a difficult place to recruit to" 10/4
  18. Hey, don't forget about Jim McIngvale. We badly need a new Athletic Director. The evidence over the last 14 years proving that very point is overwhelming.
  19. Two of RV's biggest accomplishments to date: Handing out UNT t-shirts on campus and running off a million dollar donor. Again, what is the increase/decrease each year for season tickets sales since RV started at UNT?
  20. Here's a more important question, how does RV keep his job?
  21. I believe that both the length of contract extension as well as the increase in salary were the result of someone acting on "emotion" and not common sense and good business logic. It squeals of incompetence.
  22. As a head coach, Mac's a loser. Hey, that's what his won/loss record says.
