  1. I understand what you are saying and agree. Wear the minuses as a badge of courage.
  2. I will answer it for you. The belief is that the best athletes will sign on with the schools that will give them the best opportunity to show off their talents to the greatest number of people so that they can hopefully get dratfed into the NFL and make a lot of money. Therefore since the best athletes go for the TV exposure those schools believe and the athletes as well that they are the best the country has too offer. Why let a Sun Belt school think otherwise. You think a Sun Belt school that averages 17,000 deserves a chance at the national title? I don't. Not yet.
  3. Flyer I like you and repect you but do you really need an answer to your question?
  4. Honestly, if you are not putting at least 60,000 people in your stadium regardless of the opponent do you really think you deserve a share on equal terms. A chance at a National Title? Of course not. That's not American. It's redistribution of wealth. Darn they give you a millon to kick your ass in front of their fans. Don't want the money then don't play them. Yes, there are some schools in the so called major conferences that feed off the elite. They were lucky. They know it. Yeah, wish UNT was one of them. We aren't. But can be. The only way any of the teams from the MWC, CUSA and the Sun Belt can reach that level is to divide up the remaining schools not according to who they want to be associated with but who is economically affordable. Creat rivalries. Fill stadiums. Creat excitement. Generate revenue. Then and only then will the public take notice.
  5. They are not finished yet. To do it right some universities won't make it. Deciding who they are is the tough part. In order to include all they may make the wrong decision from an economical standpoint. The cost of gas is not going down in our lifetimes. Fewer people will be able to even buy season tickets let alone travel to away games. Even if they get it right it will only buy a little time. Just my opinion. Foreclosers are expected to rise 25% this year alone. Factor in the Unites States is bankrupted, well you figure it out.
  6. The most important thing the presidents of the MWC, CUSA and the Sun Belt have to do is get it right the first time. It's all about the economy and natural rivalries. It's the only way any of these schools can survive.
  7. I know I posted on another thread that I was unhappy about Benson being the new commish of the Belt but maybe smarter minds prevailed and they realized what needed to be done to protect all the current members of the Belt and Wac. The fact that the Sun Belt teams are all really being quiet about wanting to get into the alliance is another smart move by all the members of the Belt. Think we might be OK!
  8. The WAC and the Sun Belt just merged, the teams in the new conference will be determined by the ones left after the new CUSA/MWC alliance cherry picks the Belt. Probably has been in the planning for a long time.
  9. Wondering? Did Benson just pull off the biggest move yet for the wac? Hell, he just took over the Sun Belt for the wac. The wac just took over the Belt? WOW!!
  10. Pathetic. So this is the best the presidents of institutions of higher learning can do? You know the schools in the wac are breathing a lot easier today about their future. Unbelievable. Please get us out of the Belt!!
  11. Yes, but although I think we have made progress with the student body as far as participation and support we have never ever been able to tap into the Denton market and surrounding areas. Why?
  12. For the record, to all of you who gave me a -1. Thank you. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. If it promoted decent conversation, analysis and thought then I wear the -1's as a badge of courage. Thank you...........No comment at this time. Thank you. See you at the game. Go Mean Green. And prayers for Coach and his family.
  13. Thank you!! Now thats the kind of article that gives the members hope! Now, that wasn't so hard, was it?
  14. quote name='KRAM1' timestamp='1329235712' post='625702'] Always great to read these threads and see how positively some of our own talk about UNT. While bad mouthing UNT, it's leadership and its "perception" on almost a daily basis in this very public forum they call for the University leaders to go public with the negotiations and to be "positive and spread the word". You know..."you guys go public very positively while I sit back here on this public forum and pick apart everything you do because I sure know much better how to do things". Really? Had much experience working in D-1 athletics with public budget constraints, have you? I know drex has and I take what he says with some knowledge that he has "been there/done that"...for many others, well...not so much. And, some wonder still why UNT has the reputation some think it has on a national basis. Wow...just take a look in the mirror and you can see part of the problem and very little of the solution. If one really...I mean really thinks the university is sitting on its collective hands and doing nothing regarding the conference realignment mess, if they think the AD has a meeting every Monday morning and asks his staff and coaches, "OK, how can we screw something up this week" and if one does not think everyone is working toward building a bigger and better UNT then I have to question where the heck they have been over the last few years. I understand that some folks are simply pessimistic by nature and see "bad around every corner", but some of this stuff borders on just plain self-pity and self-flogging. Everyone, including me, has their own ideas about how things "should" be done, what can be done to promote the university and the athletic programs more, knows more than anyone in the athletic department how to run the Mean Green Club (heaven help us that they don't announce the caterer a week before every game...major disaster...how can we actually live through that?), etc., etc., but many of those opinions are only that...opinions based on little, if any, fact or knowledge of how, why what can be done and what the benefit/reward is for doing so. This forum is, indeed, for opinions and as such, all are welcome...and really, none are probably any better or any worse than any other, but I ask everyone...stop and think about it a little longer before you decide to come on this very public forum and bad mouth YOUR UNIVERSITY and its leadership. If you think sitting behind an Avatar makes you "invisible" to those you are knocking and to the University leadership you are sadly mistaken. There are no secrets here...or in any other "social media" site...if you don't realize that, by now you should...and it doesn't make it any different if you post with a different avatar in a different site...silly you if you think you are anonymous in any way shape or form...or forum for that matter. Just asking for a little restraint and thoughtful consideration before constantly going public with all you think is wrong with UNT and/or its athletic programs/department/coaches/players.
  15. I started this topic out of frustration and yes embarrassment. I know our people are way ahead of the curve but I would love to just hear for once something encouraging about this school and it's athletic programs. Yes, there have been instances over the last 43 years, Mean Joe Green, Fry, The Sun Belt Titles, 4 National Golfing Titles, The Big Dance of couple of times and the new stadium to mention a few. But something just seems to be missing. Does it really take this long? Is it really that difficult? As for the markets. Remember that San Antonio is wide open. There is ZERO competition. Lets hope that the alliance wants to compete in the Dallas Fort Worth market.
  16. Good grief. If the AD failed to communicate with the it's own students and had no promotions to fill the stadium then what makes you think the AD can convince others outside of the university that UNT deserves to be in the alliance or better conference? As for Memphis, it was no secret to those paying attention.
  17. If you haven't noticed UNT is not even being mentioned as a possibility whether we are interested or not. Think about it. If the alliance is willing to concede the 5th largest media market to the Big East and Big Ten then they probably are looking at San Antonio. I hope we are wearing our Big Boy pants and don't get caught looking up the skirt in San Antonio.

  19. Just read Vito's article that has been posted over on the WAC board. Very Embarrassing!!!!!
  20. Ok, let me see if I understand what you're saying. If we pack em in like UAB, Tulane, smu, and Rice then another conference will notice our culture and we will get invited despite our Dallas area location?
  21. I guess being quiet is a good thing since this could very well be very embarrassing for the AD and University if with all UNT has to offer right now, without discussing potential, UNT is not considered for the alliance or a spot in either the MWC or CUSA if the presidents choose not to merge. Time will tell.
  22. 1) It's a cleverly crafted scheme, an illusion created by the LATech Administration which has successfully deceived the presidents of the MWC and CUSA schools.............. 2) The presidents of the member schools of CUSA and the MWC are just plain stupid......... 3) Or somebody owes someone one big ass favor. Most if not all Sun Belt teams are a better option than LaTech. It should be the Sun Belt and CUSA talking about merging from a geographical and potential aspect. opinion only
  23. Here's what I think is happening. You have the have-nots saying to the haves, look if we consolidate our conferences to the point that the number of conference champs are reduced making a playoff feasible will you let us have a legit chance at a national title? No one knows that answer for sure yet. However, if the answer is yes, more than likely not all the teams currently in the 1A so called BCS will make it into one of those conferences. That's what all the tension is about. To bad that USA, MWC, Sunbelt and to a lessor extent the wac don't consolidate these schools in an economical way, thereby creating rivalrys. Opinion only.
  24. How sad that we lose two recruits to another school whose head coach actively and openly campaigned for another job after last season. WOW! But hey, go mean green.
