  1. Hayden Fry and team were on the "front cover" of the Sunday paper shown getting off the plane after arriving home.( Morning News or Times Herald, don't recall) after defeating Tennessee. The coach for Tennessee lost his job.
  2. Sears Woods ran a kick-off back 101 yards.
  3. Good grief! Why not let the man earn it first. He has an overall losing record. Let him have several impressive winning seasons at UNT first before we all embarrass ourselves by promoting mediocrity. Let him do it the old fashion way. Earn it!!
  4. George, Tristen and Josh could beat any combination of five Benford puts on the floor. What we have now is just of bunch of kids who play for themselves, unlike the teams over the last 6-7 years who played for the team and the University first. They gave everything they had in the classroom, on the street and certainly on the court. They made us all proud and they made us feel good. They were and still are family. All I see now are some kids who wear our uniforms, nothing more. Any Tradition that might have been established over the last several years by the hard work and dedication of former players has been wiped out. These current kids dropped the baton. Yes, there are a few exceptions. Not many. These current players have no heart, no soul. I don't know who they are and what they are doing here at our University.
  5. Not only did it take this guy FOUR years at Iowa State one must remember this guy could not SUSTAIN the success. He had to have been shocked when RV and Rawlins offered him the job based on this fact and also the fact he had a losing record to boot. It immediately put this guy in the dominate role with RV and Rawlings in the subservient position. This guy knew if they were foolish enough to hire him then they were also foolish enough to buy into anything he told them.
  6. "And the guy that made the play was a guy that I helped recruit to Florida, Jonathan Dawling from Bradenton southeast and he left Florida and transferred to WKU and it was a sensational play he made for the touchdown today." Hey McCarney.......................we don't care a flying flip who you helped recruit to Florida. Tell us what you did for UNT today!!!!
  7. We suck in basketball too? : ) It's suppose to be funny. We'll be fine after a few more games.
  8. Agree with you 100% Furthermore, its not the character of the kids that concerns me.
  9. Wish I made 550 thousand a year. There went the fan base. Rah rah rah!!
  10. Even though recorded history indicates that there has been changes in the climate over time I truely believe this one is real and IS man made. I do believe the Sun is getting hotter. A lot hotter! But I don't believe that is has anything to do with factories, cars, farts and anything else. I think the truth is we are witnessing the wrath of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Anyone who thinks for one minute that we can continually shake our fist in God"s face and not expect repercussions is not very well informed as to the Truth. I personally think we are experiencing what the Bible calls birth pangs" Maybe we are in the early stages of the Tribulation? One thing I know for sure, its not going to get any better. Best to prepare. Sorry. Wish I could spin the Truth. Lets all hope we can get this football season in. GO MEAN GREEN!!!
  11. The local media only covered us when we were winning for two reasons. 1) When winning we were never a threat to the local dallas team because it was only the Missouri Valley, Southland, Big West or Sun Belt. Who cares? Perception. And second it was used more as a slap in the face to smu in an effort to motivate them. " the Sun Belt may suck but at least they are winning it." IMHO I dropped my subscription to the dmn almost 4 years ago and I told them exactly why.
  12. It will sit 26,500 according to their official site. Yes, it does look bigger than that. I agree it is really nice.
  13. http://www.newasustadium.com/faq.php. Hope the link works. Looks a little like Apogee?
  14. What he's forgetting is that UNT has over 200,000 Alumni in the DWF area. True we have failed reaching them and much of that is due to the local media ignoring us. However, playing Texas teams that also have a lot of alumni in the area along with a legit football team will get us the media we need to educate our alumni that this isn't your mom and dad's UNT anymore. We win on the field and and the court and the stands will be full as well. Where as UL peaked last year, UNT can and will fill a future 55,000 seat Apogee. That's the difference.
  15. I really like it. Can you post that on the CUSA site?
  16. The new CUSA could be short lived. http://articles.boston.com/2012-05-08/sports/31613137_1_john-marinatto-football-schools-big-east-conference
  17. I agree with your statement about it not being, "healthy for any school to ever feel that it has "arrived" or to be satisfied with the status quo." Of course, that applies to both UNT and SMU and yes I must admit that some of our beloved posters here are letting their pride overtake their humbleness. Forgive them. They were probably too young to remember how SMU taught us all about "The Pride Comes Before The Fall" I also do not believe that we have seen the end of conference realignment and that should the Big East implode it could severly damage UNT"s hope of finally breaking out. We'll see. As to your statement about SMU's powerbrokers not being overly concerned with what is going on at UNT, Hogwash! Of course they are. They aren't stupid. They have always kept a watchful eye on UNT, even if only an occasional glance once in awhile to make sure there was no potential threat brewing in Denton. SMU does have one very real and strong fear of something UNT has that SMU doesn't have and that's NUMBERS. Someone just recently printed those numbers in an article that I do not recall, to be in the neighborhood of 300,000 in the Metro-plex. I don't believe that but it probably is around 200,000 plus. True, UNT has failed to connect with them as well as generations of students and Denton area residents. Why? One can speculate all they want as to the reason for such a disconnect but decades of islolation, not being included in the top conference in a state where football is king may have a lot to do with it. Other than the Lone Star Conference and Southland, UNT has never been afforded the opportunity to establish long term rivalries with other D1A Texas schools at the level people in the State of Texas care about. The Missouri Valley, then Independence, D1AA, Big West and then Sun Belt. Wow! Who cares? Who among us doesn't know and understand the importance of public perception? You? Although the new CUSA may not seem to be quite as strong as it was and has been in the past it does finally give UNT the chance to establish some local rivialries. Whether Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, UTSA, and UTEP will be enough no one knows yet. However, SMU was very aware by joining the Big East they were allowing UNT an opportunity they have never had before in Athletics. Gamble? Who knows? However, the local TV press did a good job of not covering one of the biggest events in the history of UNT Athletics thereby depriving 200,000 or more of their listeners the good news. Happenstance? Coincidence? Yeah right. Sure. No one knows what will happen for sure. Will UNT finally break the shackles of always being the nobody in the metro-plex and state of Texas? Will the future see UNT adding an upper deck to Apogee because of ticket demand? Don't know. Can't say. Time will tell. But yes, the powerbrokers of SMU are watching closely. The culture and success at UNT could very well mushroom over night in the eyes of many but us old dudes know it will have taken decades. See you in 2014, of course that is contingent on your school not chickening out. Go Mean Green!!!
  18. I agree with you but thank goodness it was enough to get the stadium built. I don't think it would have passed if it was more than what it was. Think where we would be if we were still at Fouts. Sun Belt, forever. And for the record, the stadium TState@San Marcos is building is nice but it is no where comparable to Apogee. Not even close. We are very fortunate. With the students just passing an increase for the Student Union Bldg I doubt we'll see any new athletic fee increase any time soon. However, if we can start selling out the Pit and Apogee then maybe we will begin to draw in major donors who have the money and desire to be part of something big.
  19. I must share this with all of you. A while back I was talking with RV via the phone and thanked him for getting the new stadium built. He never took credit for it! Not once during our converstation. He was humble and thankful but he made it perfectly clear that there were others who made it happen. He didn't mention names. But honestly, if RV had not shown the fortitude, determination, desire, and love for UNT more than likely the student vote would never have happened must less passed. He paved the way. So yes, RV played a major role in getting the stadium built. And yes we should all thank Flyer and the past SGA for both recognizing and seizing the opportunity. Thanks guys!
  20. And, don't forget the great hires that RV made for our other woman's programs. Not sure about when the men's golf coach was hired but look at his success.
  21. Fair enough. I agree RV has done some wonderful things over the last 10 years for UNT and against all odds. I also think that an individual who had the vision and was instrumental in establishing a new conference, that being CUSA, is far more involved in the selection process of "finding" new coaches than some may believe. Wake Forest, Marquette and Florida? And you know what? It's just my opinion, nothing more. However, one must admit that the bar has been raised and the expectation for UNT athletics has been raised since Rawlins took over as President at UNT. I just think Rawlins is a more on hands type of guy than some might think. That's good for RV, the athletes, the fans and the Univeristy.
  22. So then, what you're saying is Rawlins has played a major role in the last three hires with his influence?
  23. So, Rawlins tagged along with RV to Florida just to get out of the office? Ah...........ok.
  24. One has to wonder the amount of influence Rawlins has had with the hiring of McCarney, Peterson and Benford. I would include Aston but didn't she contact us? Anyway, I think all three will make us proud.
