I'm hoping we don't need any additional motivation after being on the crappy end of a 79-10 drubbing.

Speed differential was definately the major factor, but Coach Dodge was saying yesterday in the press conference that many of the problems defensively could be contributed to taking poor angles and ineffective tacking. He said that would be a major focus this week in practice. I think that the offense will be able to move the ball this year. If we can cut down on the unforced drops and increase the frequency that we get our receivers in space to make plays, we should be in good shape.

Well, that didn't take long.

Tasty, Check out the Super Target in Denton. In the men's section, they had a selection of NT gear that was reasonably priced. The shirts I saw there a couple of weeks back were the new green...not the toothpaste green that's been handed out around campus the last two years.

Good observations Gray Eagle One. I thought that our outside containment by the linebackers was pretty poor. The interior defensive line seemed to hold up pretty well against the run, but the ends seemed to be collapsing in on every play. When the runners for OU would get to the outside, our linebackers were taking horrible angles in pursuit. By the time the safeties would get over there, the RB's for OU were at full speed and all hell had already broken loose. Coach Dodge addressed these problems in the press conference today and I expect that we will see major improvements in these areas against SMU. Roman had a tough game...but so did the rest of the defense, let's not lay everything at his feet. Anyone on our team matched up 1 on 1 with Kelly was going to be in for a long day.

Loved Coach's comment about stressing to the team that "Losing is not acceptable" and focusing on the importance on the upcoming SMU game.

Kinda bold prediction right there. I'll tell you what, if we don't do a better job containing the run on the outside, it could be a very long day for us. Both Willis and Martin can hurt you with their feet, and we did not do an adequate job of taking away the outside running lanes against OU. This worries me quite a bit.

Good point. Roman had a very tough game, but he was left out there on an island all night. It seemed like Mendoza was insistent on playing his style of defense the entire game and let the players "sink or swim". We were simply outmatched in size and speed at the skill positions, and then add poor tackling into the mix and you are in for a long night. I'm interested to see what our guys look like against SMU and FAU. As Fake Lonnie Finch has pointed out in several threads, if the Sunbelt teams are consistently burning past our corners, then it's time to be upset. I expect our guys on defense (especially Roman) to come out with something to prove against SMU. We wont see the type of speed that OU had again this year.

Not sure if this has been posted before. Found it on You Tube and it's a good interview with Coach Dodge. Makes me glad that this is the man who is now shaping the football team's future.

Actually, I think my bloody mary went flying about 5 rows back after DPS knocked it out of my hands while we were celebrating that play. That TCU game was such a let down. Truly a day of "What could have been". BTW, My dad still asks me how you're doing after hanging out him at that TCU game.

Can someone remind me about Banks' situation? I was hoping he would get an opportunity to become a big contributor this season.

OU - 42 NT - 14 We look better than we did against OOC power conference opponents than in the past. The difference in size and depth on the lines for OU eventually takes over the game and they pull away in the 2nd half. Respectable showing for the Mean Green. Target now focused on SMU.

My friends and I had a good time. As everyone said, the cheap beer was great for the guys and the half price margaritas for the girls was a bonus. We like to complain a lot on this board about these types of events quite a bit (times and locations not being convenient) but I thought this event was great. Having a 5 hours span of time on a Saturday was great. It seemed that quite a few people were able to attend. The room that the NT fans had was full the entire time we were there. Kinda makes you feel like we do actually have a fanbase. Props to the organizers.
