1. OHIO STATE (11-1)

Buckeyes gain ground – a lot of it – by not playing for two weeks. Next: BCS title game vs. LSU, Jan. 7.

2. LSU (11-2)

The Tigers won the SEC, then they got some help from pollsters to get into title game. Next: BCS title game vs. Ohio State, Jan. 7.

3. USC (10-2)

The Trojans are playing as well as any team as regular season comes to a close. Next: Rose Bowl vs. Illinois, Jan. 1.

4. GEORGIA (10-2)

Hmmm – what would've happened had Knowshon Moreno been big part of offense from Day One? Next: Sugar Bowl vs. Hawaii, Jan. 1.

5. OKLAHOMA (11-2)

This is getting sort of routine: Bob Stoops' Sooners win the Big 12. Next: Fiesta Bowl vs. West Virginia, Jan. 2.

6. MISSOURI (11-2)

The Tigers' worst game of the season came at the most inopportune time. Next: Cotton Bowl vs. Arkansas, Jan. 1.

7. KANSAS (11-1)

No matter what happens in the bowl game, the Jayhawks' season has been a resounding success. Next: Orange Bowl vs. Virginia Tech, Jan. 3.

8. VIRGINIA TECH (11-2)

If not for a late-October loss at home to Boston College, the Hokies likely would be playing for the national title. Next: Orange Bowl vs. Kansas, Jan. 3.

9. ARIZONA STATE (10-2)

The Sun Devils didn't make it to a BCS game, but Dennis Erickson's first season was still a success. Next: Holiday Bowl vs. Texas, Dec. 27.

10. WEST VIRGINIA (10-2)

There's no sugar-coating it: WVU turned in a pitiful performance vs. Pitt. Next: Fiesta Bowl vs. Oklahoma, Jan. 2.

11. HAWAII (12-0)

The Warriors didn't always look pretty, but they got the victory over Washington. Next: Sugar Bowl vs. Georgia, Jan. 1.

12. FLORIDA (9-3)

The Gators' offense was clicking in the final month of the regular season. Next: Capital One Bowl vs. Michigan, Jan. 1.

13. ILLINOIS (9-3)

Ohio State's ascension into the title game sends Illini to the Rose Bowl. Next: Rose Bowl vs. USC, Jan. 1.

14. TEXAS (9-3)

If not for loss to Texas A&M, Longhorns might've been in a BCS bowl. Next: Holiday Bowl vs. Arizona State, Dec. 27.

15. BOSTON COLLEGE (10-3)

BC's lack of ticket sales hurt them when it came to bowl pairings. Next: Champs Sports Bowl vs. Michigan State, Dec. 28.

16. USF (9-3)

Midseason lull cost Bulls. But they have a lot of young players, so next season looks bright. Next: Sun Bowl vs. Oregon, Dec. 31.

17. BYU (10-2)

Cougars go unbeaten in Mountain West Conference for second season in a row. Next: Las Vegas Bowl vs. UCLA, Dec. 22.

18. TENNESSEE (9-4)

Vols put 1-2 start behind them to win SEC East. All in all, a nice season. Next: Outback Bowl vs. Wisconsin, Jan. 1.

19. VIRGINIA (9-3)

Cavs lived dangerously all season, setting NCAA record with five games decided by two or fewer points. Next: Gator Bowl vs. Texas Tech, Jan. 1.

20. CLEMSON (9-3)

Maybe one of these seasons the Tigers will find some needed consistency. Next: Chick-fil-A Bowl vs. Auburn, Dec. 31.

21. CINCINNATI (9-3)

Bearcats' offense is a fun one to watch under coach Brian Kelly. Next: Papajohns.com Bowl vs. Southern Miss, Dec. 22.

22. BOISE STATE (10-2)

Second-year coach Chris Petersen has a career record of 23-2. Not bad, huh? Next: Hawaii Bowl vs. East Carolina, Dec. 23.

23. AUBURN (8-4)

Some disappointing losses, for sure, but a sixth consecutive win over Alabama cures a lot of ills. Next: Chick-fil-A Bowl vs. Clemson, Dec. 31.

24. WISCONSIN (9-3)

Each of the Badgers' losses came on the road in the Big Ten. Next: Outback Bowl vs. Tennessee, Jan. 1.

25. ARKANSAS (8-4)

A lot of fans got their wish: Houston Nutt is gone. Now what? Next: Cotton Bowl vs. Missouri, Jan. 1.

26. UTAH (8-4)

The Utes stumbled early but played extremely well in the second half of the season. Next: Poinsettia Bowl vs. Navy, Dec. 20.

27. OREGON STATE (8-4)

Defense was the constant for the Beavers this season. Next: Emerald Bowl vs. Maryland, Dec. 28.

28. OREGON (8-4)

QB Dennis Dixon's torn ACL was devastating for the Ducks. Next: Sun Bowl vs. USF, Dec. 31.

29. TEXAS TECH (8-4)

Redshirt freshman WR Michael Crabtree burst on to the scene in a big way. Next: Gator Bowl vs. Virginia, Jan. 1.

30. WAKE FOREST (8-4)

Demon Deacons showed that last season's ACC title wasn't a fluke. Next: Meineke Car Care Bowl vs. Connecticut, Dec. 29.

31. MICHIGAN (8-4)

So, with Les Miles out of the picture, who becomes the Wolverines' new coach? Next: Capital One Bowl vs. Florida, Jan. 1.

32. PENN STATE (8-4)

With Bobby Bowden being allowed to coach as long as he wants, we assume it's the same for Joe Paterno. Next: Alamo Bowl vs. Texas A&M, Dec. 29.

33. CONNECTICUT (9-3)

The Huskies were one of the nation's biggest surprises this season. Next: Meineke Car Care Bowl vs. Wake Forest, Dec. 29.

34. MISSISSIPPI STATE (7-5)

Sylvester Croom has the Bulldogs in a bowl for the first time since the 2000 season. Next: Liberty Bowl vs. UCF, Dec. 29.

35. KENTUCKY (7-5)

The Wildcats were in the hunt for a New Year's Day bowl, but they faded down the stretch. Next: Music City Bowl vs. Florida State, Dec. 31.

36. MICHIGAN STATE (7-5)

Victory over Penn State in regular-season finale propelled Spartans into a Florida bowl. Next: Champs Sports Bowl vs. Boston College, Dec. 28.

37. AIR FORCE (9-3)

The Falcons won their final three regular-season games by an average of 23 ppg. Next: Armed Forces Bowl vs. California, Dec. 31.

38. UCF (10-3)

TB Kevin Smith has chance to be Division I-A's leading single-season rusher. Next: Liberty Bowl vs. Mississippi State, Dec. 29.

39. FLORIDA STATE (7-5)

School officials essentially have told Bobby Bowden he can coach as long as he wants. Next: Music City Bowl vs. Kentucky, Dec. 31.

40. NEW MEXICO (8-4)

Defense was the Lobos' calling card this season. Next: New Mexico Bowl vs. Nevada, Dec. 22.

41. FRESNO STATE (8-4)

Bulldogs will be looking for their second win over a BCS-league school this season in their bowl. Next: Humanitarian Bowl vs. Georgia Tech, Dec. 31.

42. TULSA (9-4)

Golden Hurricane head into postseason with the nation's top-ranked offense. Next: GMAC Bowl vs. Bowling Green, Jan. 6.

43. UCLA (6-6)

You have to figure word will come soon on Karl Dorrell's future. Next: Las Vegas Bowl vs. BYU, Dec. 22.

44. CALIFORNIA (6-6)

Golden Bears head into postseason having lost six of their past seven. Yikes. Next: Armed Forces Bowl vs. Air Force, Dec. 31.

45. TEXAS A&M (7-5)

Gary Darnell was Florida's interim coach when it lost in the Freedom Bowl in 1989. Next: Alamo Bowl vs. Penn State, Dec. 29.

46. OKLAHOMA STATE (6-6)

One of the lasting images of the 2007 season is coach Mike Gundy's rant after Texas Tech game. Next: Insight Bowl vs. Indiana, Dec. 31.

47. SOUTH CAROLINA (6-6)

The Gamecocks started 6-1 before fading badly in second half of season. Next: Season over.

48. GEORGIA TECH (7-5)

Tech, which is looking for a new coach, gets to play in Boise on New Year's Eve. Yippee. Next: Humanitarian Bowl vs. Fresno State, Dec. 31.

49. RUTGERS (7-5)

What happens to Scarlet Knights next season if TB Ray Rice goes pro? Next: International Bowl vs. Ball State, Jan. 5.

50. ALABAMA (6-6)

You can safely assume that the season did not go as Nick Saban thought it would. Next: Independence Bowl vs. Colorado, Dec. 30.

51. PURDUE (7-5)

Boilermakers started 5-0. Then real teams started showing up on the schedule. Next: Motor City Bowl vs. Central Michigan, Dec. 26.

52. IOWA (6-6)

Inexplicable loss at home to Western Michigan in regular-season finale likely cost Iowa a bowl bid. Next: Season over.

53. INDIANA (7-5)

Terry Hoeppner is smiling for sure: Hoosiers are going to play 13 this season. Next: Insight Bowl vs. Oklahoma State, Dec. 31.

54. COLORADO (6-6)

Offense was too inconsistent, but Buffs headed to postseason in Dan Hawkins' second season. Next: Independence Bowl vs. Alabama, Dec. 30.

55. TCU (7-5)

Horned Frogs weren't as good as expected, but they're going bowling nonetheless. Next: Texas Bowl vs. Houston, Dec. 28.

56. TROY (8-4)

The Trojans blew a chance at the Sun Belt title and New Orleans Bowl bid by losing at home to Florida Atlantic. Next: Season over.

57. LOUISVILLE (6-6)

Cardinals might have been the biggest disappointment in the nation. Next: Season over.

58. ARIZONA (5-7)

The Wildcats opened up the offense at midseason, and it paid off. Next: Season over.

59. EAST CAROLINA (7-5)

Pirates going bowling for second season in a row under Skip Holtz. Next: Hawaii Bowl vs. Boise State, Dec. 23.

60. HOUSTON (8-4)

Solid season overshadowed by coach Art Briles leaving for Baylor. Next: Texas Bowl vs. TCU, Dec. 28.

61. MARYLAND (6-6)

Terps have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball – which explains why they're 6-6. Next: Emerald Bowl vs. Oregon State, Dec. 28.

62. SOUTHERN MISS (7-5)

School officials may end up regretting firing coach Jeff Bower, who had had a lot of success. Next: Papajohns.com Bowl vs. Cincinnati, Dec. 22.

63. NAVY (8-4)

Middies now own six-game winning streak over Army, longest streak in the history of the rivalry. Next: Poinsettia Bowl vs. Utah, Dec. 20.

64. MIAMI (5-7)

The Hurricanes lost four in a row – and six of seven – at the end of a nightmarish season. Next: Season over.

65. NORTHWESTERN (6-6)

If not for a loss to Duke – Duke! – the Wildcats might be in a bowl. Next: Season over.

66. WASHINGTON STATE (5-7)

The Cougars are looking for new coach, and he'll need a new quarterback next season. Next: Season over.

67. WASHINGTON (4-9)

Huskies have a star in QB Jake Locker., Now they need to get him some help. Next: Season over.

68. CENTRAL MICHIGAN (8-5)

QB Dan LeFevour heads a potent offense for the MAC champs, but the defense has some issues. Next: Motor City Bowl vs. Purdue, Dec. 26.

69. PITT (5-7)

The Panthers missed some opportunities during the season, but the defense was magnificent in a shocking win over WVU. Next: Season over.

70. BALL STATE (7-5)

QB Nate Davis gives the Cardinals a chance against Rutgers in bowl game. Next: International Bowl vs. Rutgers, Jan. 5.

71. BOWLING GREEN (8-4)

The Falcons are in a bowl despite not being able to run or stop the run. Next: GMAC Bowl vs. Tulsa, Jan. 6.

72. VANDERBILT (5-7)

Once again, Commodores have some close ones. And, once again, they fall short of a bowl. Next: Season over.

73. KANSAS STATE (5-7)

Remember that win over Texas? Man, that was a long time ago. Next: Season over.

74. NC STATE (5-7)

Wolfpack played well in second half of season until finale against Maryland. Next: Season over.

75. NEBRASKA (5-7)

Bo Pelini is considered a good defensive mind. That's good, because Huskers' defense needs to be fixed. Next: Season over.

76. NORTH CAROLINA (4-8)

There were some good things to take from coach Butch Davis' first season. Next: Season over.

77. NEVADA (6-6)

Saturday's victory over Louisiana Tech put Wolf Pack in a bowl. Next: New Mexico Bowl vs. New Mexico, Dec. 22.

78. MEMPHIS (7-5)

The Tigers overcame a 2-4 start to get to seven wins and earn a bowl bid. Next: New Orleans Bowl vs. FAU, Dec. 21.

79. STANFORD (4-8)

Victories over USC and Cal in same season? That's called progress. Next: Season over.

80. FLORIDA ATLANTIC (7-5)

Owls pulled upset at Troy to win the Sun Belt crown. Next: New Orleans Bowl vs. Memphis, Dec. 21.

81. IOWA STATE (3-9)

Cyclones showed some signs of life late in the season. Next: Season over.

82. WYOMING (5-7)

Cowboys' 4-1 start disintegrated into an awful finish. Next: Season over.

83. OLE MISS (3-9)

Replacing Ed Orgeron with Houston Nutt definitely is an upgrade. A big upgrade. Next: Season over.

84. NOTRE DAME (3-9)

It's safe to say a lot of luster has come off Charlie Weis. Next: Season over.

85. MIAMI UNIVERSITY (6-7)

The RedHawks won the MAC East, but they need a more consistent offense. Next: Season over.

86. SAN DIEGO STATE (4-8)

Rebuilding process not going as quickly as Chuck Long would've hoped. Next: Season over.

87. LOUISIANA TECH (5-7)

First-year coach Derek Dooley almost got the Bulldogs into a bowl this season. Next: Season over.

88. BUFFALO (5-7)

Second-year coach Turner Gill looks to be turning Bulls into legit contender in MAC. Next: Season over.

89. MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE (5-7)

Freshman QB Dwight Dasher gives the Blue Raiders a lot of hope for the future. Next: Season over.

90. OHIO U. (6-6)

Bobcats won three of their final four, but have to get better vs. the run. Next: Season over.

91. WESTERN MICHIGAN (5-7)

Broncos' victory at Iowa kept the Hawkeyes out of a bowl. Next: Season over.

92. SAN JOSE STATE (5-7)

Spartans took a step backward this season after going to a bowl last season. Next: Season over.

93. LA.-MONROE (6-6)

Not a bad season for Warhawks, who beat Nick Saban and Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Next: Season over.

94. COLORADO STATE (3-9)

For all Sonny Lubick did for Rams, it's sad his last season was so poor. Next: Season over.

95. TEMPLE (4-8)

Owls look to be making progress under second-year coach Al Golden. Next: Season over.

96. AKRON (4-8)

Zips lost to the two teams in the MAC title game by a combined 10 points, so they're close. Next: Season over.

97. UTEP (4-8)

The defense was rancid. The season ended with a six-game losing streak. Next: Season over.

98. UNLV (2-10)

The program is in a tailspin. How soon can it come out of it? Next: Season over.

99. TOLEDO (5-7)

Offense was productive and moved the ball. The defense, though, couldn't stop anybody. Next: Season over.

100. KENT STATE (3-9)

Golden Flashes were in trouble when starting QB Julian Edelman was lost for season. Next: Season over.

101. DUKE (1-11)

Hey, just let Mike Krzyzewski coach football, too, and save some money that way. Next: Season over.

102. MINNESOTA (1-11)

Offense wasn't the problem. The defense was embarrassingly bad. Next: Season over.

103. SYRACUSE (2-10)

Greg Robinson and his staff need to find some playmakers on both sides of the ball. Next: Season over.

104. ARKANSAS STATE (5-7)

The Indians have some talented young players and should be contenders in Sun Belt next season. Next: Season over.

105. BAYLOR (3-9)

New coach Art Briles has his work cut out for him in making the Bears relevant again. Next: Season over.

106. TULANE (4-8)

TB Matt Forte had a monster season. Too bad for the Green Wave he's a senior. Next: Season over.

107. MARSHALL (3-9)

Thundering Herd should not be this bad, and coach Mark Snyder knows it. Next: Season over.

108. EASTERN MICHIGAN (4-8)

The Eagles are a long way from being in the upper tier in the MAC. Next: Season over.

109. WESTERN KENTUCKY (7-5)

Hilltoppers had nice season as transitional I-A member. Next: Season over.

110. RICE (3-9)

Priority one for Owls this offseason is making sure the defense is better next season. Next: Season over.

111. ARMY (3-9)

Compared to other two service academies, Army is way behind. Next: Season over.

112. LA.-LAFAYETTE (3-9)

Coach Rickey Bustle and his staff will be on the hot seat entering next season. Next: Season over.

113. UAB (2-10)

Even for C-USA, Blazers' talent level is lacking. Next: Season over.

114. NEW MEXICO STATE (4-9)

It was sort of sad Friday night watching defensive coordinator Woody Widenhofer walking off the field for the final time. Next: Season over.

115. NORTH TEXAS (2-10)

The Mean Green adapted well to a new offense, but that defense needs a ton of improvement. Next: Season over.

116. UTAH STATE (2-10)

The Aggies can go into the offseason feeling good about their two-game winning streak. Next: Season over.

117. NORTHERN ILLINOIS (2-10)

Huskies' fall from grace in MAC was a swift one. Next: Season over.

118. SMU (1-11)

Because the Mustangs are in C-USA, the new coach may not find it that hard to rebuild quickly. Next: Season over.

119. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL (1-11)

At least the Golden Panthers can head into offseason knowing their 23-game losing streak is over. Next: Season over.

120. IDAHO (1-11)

Welcome, Vandals, to the bottom spot in the poll. Idaho's only win was against a I-AA team. Next: Season over.
